Operating KS1KCC, the SKCC Club Station

KS1KCC is the SKCC's club station. During a Weekend Sprintathon (WES) it appears as a special bonus station: every band on which a participant works KS1KCC is worth 25 bonus points to them, so when KS1KCC is on the air it is one of the most sought-after contacts of the weekend. KS1KCC is only "active" when a member volunteers to put it on the air, and this page explains what that involves and how to sign up.

Why volunteer?

Operating KS1KCC is a fun way to give back. You hand out bonus points to everyone who works you, you represent the club, and you get the pileup experience of being the station everyone is chasing. You do not need to be a contest expert; you just need to enjoy putting a key on the air and working your fellow members.

What operating KS1KCC involves

The specifics are simple, and the WES manager will give you the current operating guidance and the station's details when you sign up. In general:

  • Put KS1KCC on the air during that month's WES. A WES runs from 12:00 UTC Saturday through 23:59 UTC Sunday of its weekend (about 36 hours). Operate as much or as little of that window as you are able; any time on the air helps.
  • Operate within the normal WES rules: use a straight key, sideswiper, or bug per the SKCC Key Policy, stay on the WES bands and frequencies, and send the standard exchange (RST, your QTH/SPC, name, and the club station's SKCC number, which the WES manager will give you).
  • Identify clearly as KS1KCC so members know they are working the club station and can claim their bonus.
  • Because each band counts separately for the people working you, spreading your activity across several bands when you can is appreciated.
  • Keep a log of your contacts and submit it, or your results, as the WES manager requests, so members' bonus claims can be confirmed.
  • One member holds KS1KCC for a given WES, so once you have signed up the slot is yours for that month.
