SKCC Weekend Sprint Results

October 28th Theme: Craftsman Special

Weekend Sprintathon Sunday October 28th, 0000-2359z

In October we will be having the "Craftsman Special" sprint to correspond with SPAR Key Month. Where you have a month to build a key using anything you want. Anything goes! You can't start building until October 1st.

Remember, anything goes. Use anything you want. Your creation doesn't have to be fancy or made from expensive materials. Some will, but the point is to have fun. No SKCC judging of the keys will be done. The idea is to build and use your key in the 4th Sunday sprintathon. Feel free to send a photo of the key you use in the event. I prefer 480x360 jpg or gif images please. Email images direct.

K0LWV My first SKCC contest. Activity seemed low everyone was in the DX phone contest I guess.

K5PAX Marginal condx, but good fun. Good to see everyone.

K0LUW Pretty good sprint. Didn't see to many newcomers. Looks like the guys had fun with the Sched board. My key worked pretty good. I am satisfied with its performance.

KM6BX First weekender. QSO rate very low; Fun quotient very high.

KG1W Vry nice sprint, good for beginners like myself. TNX !

NG7Z I didn't have much time this weekend for radio but put in as much as I had. Outdoor chores (splitting and stacking wood) kept me busy. Total time was about 2 hours. I love this event and will keep trying to participate.

Thanks for the q's and cul
Paul NG7Z

N2YHQ This is my first SKCC Weekend Sprint. I had lots of fun despite the amount of SSB stations that were contesting. Conditions were less than optimal but had a very good practice and am looking forward for the next one.

AC2C Great event -- Picked up 12 new C's and T's toward my coveted T.

W6UT Conditions were not the best by far. 40M was ruff with the CQ WW SSB going on. Did manage to pickup a few on 80M very early this morning. Majority of Q's were on 20M.

KC9HGW There were a bunch of new calls this weekend. Good to hear some new members and some not-so-new, but not yet in my log.

K0DBK This was my first WES for quite a while. My score was not fantastic but all the same I had an excellent time. 20 meters wasn't bad, with only one contact on 40. I did not have time to make a key for this sprint, but will try to have something for the next one. Will hopefully see everyone during the next weekday SKS.

N1IIX Here's the photo of my homemade keys. Ended up using the side swiper for the Weekend Sprintathon. I had a great time on the air, thanks!

AF2Z Got started late on Sat evening, only snagging a few 80m contacts before rolling into bed. Figured I'd only be able to pick up a few more on Sun morning but was pleasantly surprised at how much activity there was at that time on 40 & 20. Thanks to Dennis/W6UT for digging out my weak signal yet again. Newest & oldest SKCCers worked: Larry/K0LWV #3571 with good signal on 20m; Brad/K0DBK #24, 599+ also on 20. My rig: Elecraft K2, 100' wire and attic dipole, Junker straight key.

WR5U Was only able to operate for an hour or so. Spent the little time I had operating S&P. Sure was good to hear the bands busy with SKS when I finally got in the shack. Hope to give it a better effort next time. Was fun!

N2JNZ Tough condx with CQWW SSB and bands not that hot. Better next time !!!

K8JP I am sorry I could not make more time for this one. I am busy packing and closing things down, but did squeeze in some time on 80 meters for 8 QSOs and 1 QSO on 40 meters. Conditions were not great, but not real bad either. The CQ WW SSB contest made a mess of 40 meters. If you did not have sharp crystal filters, it would have been impossible. DSP filtering just does not make it! I'm leaving here Tuesday, I hope. I am packing the bug, so I hope to see you all from V31JP the next time. So understand, I will send V3 for my S/P/C from there. I hope all had a great time that got in for even a little bit, as I did for the time I had available.

NT9K 40 meters was rough and tough. My rig was a TS-870 at 100w into an inverted vee up 40 feet at the apex. For 20 meters, I use my Cushcraft MA5B mini beam. My key performed nicely and I used it for the entire event except for one qso. For some reason, my hand just naturally wants to reach for my Navy Flameproof. Thanks to all who joined in and I hope to see you all again next time. 73, Bill NT9K..

KL7GLL Late getting back from Michigan's U.P. so only limited activity. Contacts on four bands!!: 80, 40, 20, and 15. 15 mtrs wide open to Europe 1130 UTC on, but no contacts with European SKCC members despite repeated CQs. Nice to hear and work several new members as well as the usual group. 20 mtrs was my best band. Fun as usual and looking forward to the next WES.

W4FOA Enjoyable as always. I was very impressed with the keys that Bill and Russ produced...you guys are real craftsmen. Noted quite a few "new" members active in the sprint.

KA3CTQ I only had about 45 minutes on Sunday morning to try to rack up some QSOs. Didn't hear anything but SSB on 15, 20, and 40. Maybe next time.

K2RFP This the third sprint I participated in and I'm getting better at it. The 28 contacts I made is the best I've ever done in a day. I had fun and look forward to the next one. Although my homebrew key is not of craftsman quality it did the job and was a joy to use.

K8NB Only could free up a few minutes at a time on Sunday between projects to get on the air. Had fun anyway. No homemade key, split the time between my Nye Deluxe and a Vibroplex Champion. I did work a couple new numbers. Thanks to everyone. Noel

W9CC It was a lot of fun as usual. I wanted to devote more time to the sprint, but was also working CQWWDX. I did come up 9 more on my quest for Tribune.

AA2XB Almost all contacts made late Sunday afternoon on 20 meters. Saturday evening had too much qrm due to other ssb contest.

K0LSW All woody station here 6L6 slatboard xmitr, One tube regen. rcvr and wood base strap key I hope to have better rcvr next time maybe two tubes HI 73 Terry K0LSW #3361

K8JD First sprint with my new Vibroplex bug. Only had about one and a half hours total time at the radio but had fun... 73, JD

KA3LOC Only got to operate for one hour, but it was fun.

AB8FJ As others have mentioned the conditions were not the best but still enjoyed the contacts made in this Sprint. 80 and 20 meters were the best bands for me. Rig used was my Argonaut V with the Bencher RJ-2 key.

KB4QQJ New to SKCC so this was my first WES. I had a blast!! SSB DX contest and all. It was short notice for me but made some time for it. Looking forward to this coming week day sprint! I'll be better prepared this time. Ragchew, contest, eat and repeat hi hi. How do I get to use the club call? At QRP level I NEED ALL THE POINTS I CAN GET! hi hi

73 til nxt time es Have a Happy,
DE KB4QQJ
Randy

K9MRA First contact with K0LUW was QRP/5w and second contact with K0LUW was on different band at 50w. This was my first attenpt at a sprint. Enjoyed it. 73, Steve

W9TFC During the month I built three HB ST keys, one short and two long. See pix. I built one for my long time friend Chuck W8LVT, and will try to get him to join us on the sprints. I used the long key for the sprint and other than a loose screw or two, it worked fine. Due to dinner plans with friends, I missed all of Sat. Sundays activity seemed to be on 20 and only a few stations on at one time. Looking forward to the next sprint and whatever challenge it might bring.
