Soapbox
AD5VC It was good to hear 40m busy and not too noisy. Nothing heard from New England or Pacific northwest, but signals from the midwest and southeast were good. Antenna was just a 400ft loop around the yard about 4 feet above the fence, so I was pleased to get as many contacts as I did. A pleasant surprise was my first SKCC DX contact XE1YJL. The toughest contact was KX3H... there was bad QSB between LA and PA when we tried.

W3RT Not much of a score, really- but had a lot of other committments to attend to. Enjoyed working W8FHF for my very first SKCC member contact! Certainly enjoyed working the other members that made up my score. The greatest thing about the whole Sprint was the congeniality noted on the air in CW! Great! I will operate as the 'other' committments allow me to. Thanks for welcoming me.
Red Thompson, W3RT in PA.

W9TFC It was fun using my Standard Radio Co. Bug (see pix). It was made for the Army Air force in 1942(I think). Only 1500 made and as you will notice in the pix, my bug is left handed. Since QLF means are you sending with your left foot, then I must be QLH???. I had three weights on my bug to slow it down. Used my J-38 key when working stations sending slower than I could get my bug to go. Sure did have fun working you all. 73 & CU ON CW

NT9K This was alot of fun and might have helped me with my bug skills? I still need alot more work though. Propagation was pretty good this time and it was nice to hear skcc being advertised on the air. I got to work a bunch of new members this time. Here is my bug. The photo shows a large weight, but in the contest I used a medium size weight in about the same position on the slow down gizmo.

N1LU Lost power due to T-storms just before the sprint. Pulled out the KX-1 and did QRP by candlelight. Stayed with the QRP setup after the lights came back on. Wish I could have spent more time at it.

N8XMS I only had a couple of hours to operate on Sunday but I managed to work 3 new Centurions/Tribunes toward my Tribune award effort.

K8JD 28 QSOs on 40 & 2 on 20M in about 2 hours on/off operating. Then had to celebrate XYL's birthday with family. Not my best effort but family has priority usually!

NG0K I had limited time to operate, but enjoyed working QRP with my TS-570 and vertical antennas. Thanks to all who pulled me out of the QRN! 73, Doug NG0K #3135

K0LUW A great sprint - no bad weather to drive me off the air and the band conditions were better than we have had for the last few sprints..

NJ1W Elecraft K2 running 5W to G5Rv up 35ft. Thanks to the guys who took the time to pull my signal out of the noise.

NG7Z Didn't get started until Sunday morning. Did the SCC RTTY contest on Saturday. Total time on was about 3 hours. What a fun contest and will be back again.

NN8B I missed a great start to the SKCC-A-Thon because of the Saturday night race at Bristol. Got in a few Q's after the race though. Got in a few more Sunday morning then got busy with other stuff. Made the last hour and doubled my Q count. My Vibroplex Blue Racer Delux was Blazingly Slow. Worked a lot of new numbers, thanks for all who were there.

WB8OGK Slow bug was a great idea for a sprint. Lots of fun and some new bug fists out there to be heard. Congrats to all who got on the air for the first time with a bug!

K4ZGB I've been off the air for about 2 months. Worked Saturday morning to get at least one antenna working. The 40 meter antenna was the one, so single band for me this time. Thanks for the contacts. I actually worked a SKCC'er that didn't know his number. hi

WU8V Great fun. This is the first time I have felt anything close to competitive having worked the club call and Dennis right off the bat. I am glad that Frank hit his afterburners, and got the three new T's (me included) official, so that we could give out those extra points

N3ZL My first time using a straight key in a long time (relatively, I'm only 17) and only had a chance to operate for a few minutes between homework and various things around the house - the T-storms didn't help much either!

AD5QB Last-weekend-of-summer-vacation family activities limited my radio time the past couple of days, but squeezed in a few contacts. Hope I didn't torture folks too much with the bug, used several alligator clips to slow it down. Still learning to use it but had fun.

KD5RSS I have to do better. But still fun, will wait patiently for the next one. Until next time...73's..

AF2Z Planned my entire weekend around the Sprintathon this time and managed to participate both days. Started strong the first two hours but the remainder of QSOs had to be worked for, drips & drabs. Got a lot of practice sending CQ... Worked Luis XE1YJL on 20m (new DX for me), and Andy UU1CC again on 40m. Dave W1DV was /M from Ohio. Nice to hear several new members. Worked 20 & 40 only; tried 15 and 80 several times, but no SKCC'ers there-- too bad. My setup: K2 rig, Junker key, paper log. Had fun as usual! -- 73, Drew AF2Z

K4BAI FT1000MP, Alpha 78, 1 KW, TH6DXX, dipole. Time was limited. Out of town company and baptism of first grandchild, plus a tennis match (we lost, unfortunately). Fun, as always. Thanks for the QSOs. 73, John, K4BAI.

KC0RSX Fun! What little time I had for operating this week end was used to try a new homebrew antenna. Got two nice QSOs including first contact with OK. What say we sometime have a QRP sprint???

NE7D Recently, while helping a 90-year old friend, K6HY, sort through his ham gear in his move into an assisted living facility, we came across his bug -- a 1919 "#4 Blue Racer"- S/N 68158. I offered to attempt to restore it for him since it undoubtedly is a collector's item, to which he replied, "You clean it up and it's yours." I don't use a bug, but sure couldn't refuse an offer like that. He got it as a young man from a retiring railroad telegrapher (W3UT). Anyway, I pulled it out of it's wooden case for this weekend's event and put it back on the air, even though it's still in need of a major cleaning and the damper wheel is missing. I spent most of the event being pretty disgusted with my sending ability and went back to my straight key for a few QSO's, but forced myself to readjust it some more and keep going with it. After a while, I either improved or got used to my lousy fist, but it started to sound better and I was enjoying it more. I had to fashion a rubber-band damper and add a "bulldog" clip to the weight to slow it down, but it finally started to sound "right." I'm looking forward to making this bug my own and giving it more SKCC air time. I apologize to those that tried to copy me this weekend, but thanks for getting me through this new experience. As always, nice to visit with my many SKCC friends -- and thanks for a great theme! Rock NE7D Salem, OR

NI7R My first SKCC event. It was fun to use the "slow" key again. Would like to see more activity though. Where were the 3380 SKCC members hiding? Come on you guys, give the Sprint a try.

K8NB Great fun again. Used my Vibroplex Champion for all but 1 QSO. Beginning to feel comfortable with it, guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. Added quite a few new numbers to my total. Thanks everyone.

AB4PP In and out all weekend. Outlaws visiting. Got on with old Champion Bug with homebrew weights. Met a lot of new friends and heard some very good fists. Can't wait for the next one and will have the Bug weighted slower next time. My 5 Watts QRP with ATS3 seemed to get through the pileups. JohnPaul/AB4PP SKCC 0032

K9JWV Worked about three hours total (had a huge garage re-do project I had to finish over the weekend) but enjoyed QSOs with two new states (Maine and South Dakota) and 8 new SKCC members worked out of the ten total contacts.

Was somewhat discouraging to hear some strong stations but not able to work them while others that were fairly weak (the Maine station was an example) were worked fairly easy.

Had just a shade less than two watts to a home brew vertical and satisfied with what I did over just three hours; wish I could have participated longer. Perhaps next year.

UU1CC I have had a lot of fun during this sprint - silence on the 20m band, strong QRN from the local t-storm and QRM (tks to SSBoys) on the 40m. Diging that impossible trash-can, hunting weak U.S.A. signals - it's close to the first trans-atlantic QST contests. As for me... Gordon N1AFV had built an outstanding slow bug, it was so interesting to work with him.. Tony W4FOA was a strongest USA station on the band. That's all, friends, thanx a lot..

KC9HGW I was only able to work 1 1/2 hours of the contest, but did hand out my number a few times. It was still a lot of fun. Thanks to all who participated.

K9SKC/W6UT Enjoyed the 5 HRS of using the Club Call. 40 was more active for me. Only mustered up 4 Qs on 80. All stations worked were members. Looking forward to next month.

AA2XB Severe thunderstorms and lightening kept me off the air Sat. night and power outage until late Sunday. Received all good reports on the sound of my super slow bug.The modification cost less than a buck and no change in adjustments were required. Got the speed down to just below 10 WPM for this sprint. I've included a picture of it in the photo section under Album Name : AA2XB.

WU7R I was camped out atop MacDonald Pass (6,500 feet) west of Helena, MT in a motorhome using a Ten Tec Argonaut with an Outbacker Perth antenna, I operated about two hours using my Blue Racer slowed down with an Extendadot. I tried using it with an additional weight and got it down to about twelve WPM, but could hardly send with it. Thanks to those who could pull me out of the noise...73, Ci

K4DXV QRN was insane here in eastern TN during the mid-afternoon. Conditions improved late in the day. Hope to work more members next time.

KA8HFN This was a very enjoyable Sprint. I couldn't slow the Vibroplex Blue Racer down enough. Used the Vibroplex Original Bug with a Bug Tamer and weight. It was great to hear the music of all of the bugs. It brought back a lot of memories of the Good Old Days when the Bug was King. Thanks for the contacts gentlemen. 73, Larry KA8HFN 8/28/07

AI4RE I had no intentions of being competitive, but got on for a few minutes here and there to give out my new "T."

W4FOA Really enjoyable sprint. It was very encouraging to hear all of the various bug fists...congratulations to everyone who gave it a shot. Found conditions to be quite good. I think the thing that impressed me the most was how comfortable we are getting at contest exchanges and procedures. Thanks to all for the QSOs and looking forward to the next sprint. I would encourage those who need QSLs to confirm a new SPC to use the SKCC QSL Bureau. It is a wonderful tool for SKCC members. Thanks and 73. Tony, W4FOA

K1NV I managed to work a couple of hours of the August event. All QSO's were great fun using the Vibroplex "dash" lever only. Activity seemed to be good on the bands that were operable.

Running TS-440S to 80/40M dipole from the house and TS-940S in the garage hamshack using tribander and 135 ft. dipole.

N2JNZ Had a fun time and thanks to all who answered !!!!
