SKCC Weekend Sprint Results

July 1st Theme: Broken Slot QRP

This months theme is QRP. For those who choose to operate using QRP, a final score multiplier will be given. For those using more than 5 watts, regular scoring applies. This time, the slot window can be broken up into 4 one hour periods. This means you can work as much or little during the 24 hours on Sunday. After the sprint, examine your log and see which hours you were most productive. It must be continuous 1 hour periods. Your 4 slots can be all together if you have a good 4 hour run. Note: The multipliers 2x and 4x are only being used because it's easier for me to score the results.

All normal rules and bonus apply except:
1) Broken slot window (4 one hour periods).
2) 2x Multiplier for QRP (1-5 watts).
3) 4x Multiplier for QRPp (Less than 1 watt).

Soapbox
W1DV Good time despite abysmal (for the most part) condx. Especially glad to hear and work XE1YJL, and good to hear/see so many Cs and Ts. My hat is off to the three of you I worked running QRP (NT9K, AB8KS, AB8FJ).Disappointed in the lack of action on 80M (only one QSO) but guess that is to be expected this time of year. Looking forward to the next one already

K2RFP This was the second sprint I ever entered. The first was the Junkbox Key sprint. I just got into doing QRP and I only had one QRP QSO with my new KX1 before the sprint. I was hoping for about six or seven QSOs but expected about four or five. I came in with ten. I'm pleased. A lot of fun!

W4FOA Enjoyable, despite the poor conditons and heavy QRN. The RAC contest made things interesting too! Thanks to Bill, NT9K for putting these Sprints together.

W0JFR QRP is really tough with terrible propagation! Heck, I feel at a disadvantage running 100w!

K0LUW Band conditions were very poor this weekend. Only worked a little over 4 hours total. The solar flux was pretty good up to 76 but the MUF for most of the weekend was very low. A lot of wasted CQ'ing time and listening to dead air and noise. But it kept me out of trouble and honey do's. Always fun.

W9TFC I enjoyed the Broken Slot Sprint format very much. I plan to operate the other SKCC sprints so see you all on CW.

K4ZGB I could only work 20 and 15 meters, my other antennas are down. Conditions not so good. Made only 1 contact on 15. It was good to work one of the newest members, #3247, K4KHM in Va. The antennas should be back in the air in about 6 weeks. Thanks for the contacts, Tom

N2JNZ Had fun with 700 mw to my G5RV up 40ft, using a TT Onmi A with a Oak Hills WM-1 wattmeter and a Bendix MT-11B Naval Flameproof Key. Thanks all for the good ears !!!!!

AE5BH With the threat for severe weather/lightening in our area, I only got to work the first 3 hours of the contest. I even got on late because of weather here. 20m was open and I had some good contacts there, but people seemed to leave even though the band seemed open and quite. 40m was noisy with all the Tstorms in Texas/OK. Late in the night it got a little better. This was my first weekend sprint so I didn't really have any goals but to have some fun. Worked 8 stations, all members and snagged 4 new states. I opereated QRP - but then again, I always work QRP :)

TNX to K8NB, WU7R, K4CNW, K8UV, K5ENA, W6UT, NE7D, and AF4LQ for the fun!

AB8KS First try at qrp, got to send cq many times, few answers. Was fun even with low score. Lloyd

NE7D Didn't get to do the full 4 hours, but met a lot of new members along with many old friends. I'm afraid I lost a couple stations Saturday night, perhaps QRPers -- sorry 'bout that. Nice to have a casual contest like SKS after a frantic Field Day weekend! Where was the club station?

W6SQQ I only had an hour near the end to participate, but it was still a fun event. All contacts were on 20 meters. Tony, W4FOA, had a killer 9+ signal, and Rock, NE7D, was strong and making lots of contacts. My apologies to W4O?? who called me a couple of times. The sig was very weak (QRP?) and lots of QSB. Just couldn't pull him out of the noise. I made several trips to 40 meters, but couldn't raise a soul. Our "workhorse band" went feet up for me.

AF2Z Missed Sunday afternoon & the finish. Bands seemed poor but still managed to work Dennis/W6UT on 40m. That's a pretty long haul for me, so couldn't have been too bad. Another highlight: worked Dave/W1DV on 20, 40 and 80m. Also, thanks to Bob/K3MQ for the new State-- Delaware. Last but not least, had a nice chat with Harold WQ5P/M in PA (caught him last week during his trip to Toledo also). All in all, it was fun as usual. 73, Drew

NT9K I never thought I would have done so well with QRP. My mini beam must have been helping me alot. Some highlights were getting a 20 over S9 report from AB8KS, working W6UT on 2 bands in CA, working 5 bands with AI4RE and working 4 bands with K3MQ in DE. Also made 5 QSO's on 10 meters, 4 on 15 meters. Nice to hear those bands open again! 73, Bill - NT9K..

KG4W Could only play for the last 3 hours of this SKS. 4 Q's on 20 & 21 Q's on 40. 73's Ed.

WU9F First weekend Sprint. Conditions were very poor at my QTH and I didn't find much activity. Hope to be able to join in again when conditions improve. Had fun and thanks to NT9K for organizing the event. 72, Terry

WU7R I was able to work three hours. I began QRP, but after two hours switched to full power. Conditions were not great, but as always, I had fun. I still need a lot of Centurians for the Tribune award....73, Ci

W6UT Another FB Sprint. Worked 20/40 meters. First Sprint from cabin. Looking forward to next one.

N1VWD Icom 736 @ 5w windom at abt 30'

K3MQ My first SKCC Sprint. I wanted to get some additional member #'s in the log, so I really didn't focus on racking up a big score so I didn't focus on any particular hour long period. When you are needy, you take what you can get, anytime and anywhere. I did get 20 new SKCC numbers in the log, bringing me to 65. Had the most fun qsying everywhere. Thanks to all who tolerated my "novice dialect" & my apologies to W6DTY. I will try to do better next time. 73.

W9CC I got a lot of new numbers. Being on at the beginning of the time period is important. Later everyone poops out. It was very enjoyable. When my new SKCC Key arrives I should be able to double my numbers -- right? Hope so. 73.

KC2MHU I only was able to hop on from time-to-time. Add that to the less-than-optimal conditions and ... But since this was my first SKCC Sprint, there's only room for improvement! 73 Bob

KL7GLL Missed the first 4 hours when activity was probably better, but had a very enjoyable time. Caught K4ZGB on 15 M for only contact on that band. Nice to wrk Luis, XE1YJL. Lots of new SKCC #s and two new SKCC states (KY and OR). Good to catch NE7D (Rock) and W6UT (Dennis) late here on 40 M.

KB1LZH Those QRP stations are really making me work for my QSO points. Maybe there should be a bonus for working RST 237 stations.

KC9HGW I squeezed in a few contacts when I could. The four non-continuous hour blocks worked well with my disjointed schedule.

AF4LQ This was my first "sprint" as a new member and while I didn't get a lot of operating time in I did enjoy meeting some of you good folks on the air. I ran a K2 at 5 watts to an inverted-V, a cheapo straight key and worked 40mtrs only. Thanks to W9CC, KE0QM, NE7D, K3MQ, AE5BH, W6UT, W9BRE (nice 90 min. ragchew), AB8KS (nice 500mw sig), W1DV, K9JP, WU8V, KG4W, KL7GLL, and K7ZYV for the contacts. Looking forward to the next one, 73.

KB3MQN/P Just returned from vacation, (no internet). Sorry for the late entry. Had fun from Promised Land lake State Park in Pike County, PA.
