Soapbox Comments

From AC9XS, Steve

Not a lot of activity for this round. Not sure if bands were bad or everyone was tired out from K3Y. Made a couple on 40 but most on 80 with a lot of QSB reports outside of Indiana. Anyhow, thanks to those who heard me, and see you again down the log. 73 DE AC9XS

From AD0YM, Mike

Took a short break from K3Y/* chasing. It's been a great month for the SKCC! 73, Mike

From AF9W, Bob

My first SKS. Got on at 0053z after a meeting and had to get off at 0137 so not bad for 44-minute run. Added 8 to my quest for S. I can't comment on activity as this was my first. Rig was KX3/KXPA100 to 8010 EFHW. Key is a 1949 Vibroplex Lightning Bug.

From K2CWM, Curt

Got home several minutes late but we made it. Made a dozen contacts including the bonus station. 75 watts from my TS-590SG into a vertical. Always fun. Curt K2CWM NJ

From K2IZ, John

Nothing fancy this month, earlier in the day had solid openings on 10 meters, for over an hour I had a solid copy on Arizona to Long Island, NY, about an hour I had another solid copy on Hawaii, no matter what I did nobody returned my call, tonight was just fun, 73 John K2IZ

From K2PHD, Doc

Band condx not the best, but still fun.

From K3TM, Roger

I was the bonus station this month and in February 2021. I was surprised that the number of stations I worked was much lower this month (54) than nearly a year ago (71). In Feb 21 there were 98 entries. So far this month there are less than 60 entries listed. I think propagation is getting better. Why are the numbers so much lower? I looked back a few years and it does appear that January is a low-participation month. Thanks to five stations for working me twice and Jo PG4I who kept calling until I pulled his call out on 40M. Because I am located on the east coast I started on 20M to give the SKS’ers out west a few bonus points. The NCDXF beacon W6WX at 14.100 MHz was loud here, but in 5 minutes of calling CQ, I only worked VE7HI Ken. Next month I plan to look for K7VM, the Feb22 SKS bonus station, in WA on 20M at the start. I’d suggest more of us start on 20M.

From K3Y/3, PHIL-K3EW

40 WAS NOT PRODUCTIVE FOR FIRST 1/2 HOUR - VERY NOISEY AND LONG. SWITCHED TO 80 WHICH WAS GOOD BUT DID THE K3Y/3 SCARE FOLKS AWAY OR WERE THERE JUST A DEARTH OF STATIONS TO WORK? THANKS FOR THE QSO'S ALL

From K4BAI, JOHN

40M was long. Closest QSO on 40M was in IN. 40M was pretty much worked out after the first 70 or 75 minutes. 80M seemed to be OK. NA4Q in my state of GA was very weak as if the skip zone was beyond him, but K4JPN about 80 miles east of me was strong and he is usually QRP. Participation seemed to be down. Glad to work DX station PG4I on 40M and several of the anniversary K3Y/ stations. Thanks for all QSOs. 73. John, K4BAI

From K4JPN, Steve

Worked a few on 40M, but band seem to go out after 1/2 hour. Tried 20M but could not raise anyone. Switched to 80M and had a lot of fun. Thanks to all who pulled out my 4W QRP signal. 73, Steve K4JPN

From K4RCG, Bob

Great way to spend a cold winter night! 73 de Bob K4RCG #24247S

From K9NUD, Steve Thom

I really need to put this on my calendar - I totally forgot about it. I turned on my rig at 01:30 and saw all the activity so I jumped in. I used my cootie and my KX3 @ 5W to an efhw.

From K9QEW, Daryl

Portable ops from AZ Limited to 20m.

From KA2KGP, Tom

Only 1 QSO on 20m. 40 & 80m. were good here in WNY. Rig: IC-7000 at 100w. into G5RV up 25 ft. w/ old WWII German Junkers straight key. 73 & keep warm!

From KC5F, Steve

Wow, 2 months in a row where I messed up my calendar... This month it was an hour off due to the wrong time zone, so when I turned on the radio, ready to start, the bands were already full! And I spent way too much time on 40m, but it was still fun, as always!

From KF5WJ, Jack

70 watts to 6BTV ground mounted vertical

From KG7YU, Gordo

I always enjoy the sprints! Started slow for me, called CQ on 40 meters with limited success then tried 20 meters, only made a couple Qs. Went back to 40 and spent a lot of time calling CQ. I was hoping to make Tx8 with this SKS, I came close, only need 6 more! Seems like I really struggled to make Qs in this event!

From KM4FO, Dwight

It was fun as always!

From KR2Q, Doug

Started on 40m. Was moving along OK but then it died. I was slow to give up and wasted time there. Finally went to 80...a lot better. But it did not feel like there was a lot of activity. No photos this time.

From KS8KCC, Dit

We ran as K3Y/8 and NU8Z and K8AQM were the ops. KS8KCC has tx20 but we needed 200 more T/S Qsos for KS8KCC 16000t to become 16000s. We worked 44 and hope to finish-up the S this Saturday running as K3Y/8 again.

KS8KCC

From N1JI, Jock

This is the first SKS for me in a long time. KX3 with 100 watt amplifier to an 88' doublet up 30' Thanks for the contacts!

N1JI

From N8KQ, Randy

From N8KR, Ken

Activity was significantly down . . . Guessing chasing K3Y’s is exhausting! 40 meters only and when that dried up a little over half way through SKS, I hung it up. Enjoyed working newer members Dean-N2TNN, Nick-K9RDU, and Rich-KQ9L hoping they will get bitten by the SKCC “bug” and continue being active! Thanks to Jo-PG4I who has been frequenting this event even though it’s very late for him. It’s great having DX in our SKS logs.

From NQ2W, Will

Limited time to participate...hopefully, next time I'll be able to devote the full 2 hours. Thanks for the Qs! 73, Will, NQ2W

From NX1K, Mark

First SKS since March 2021 and first in new QTH after moving from WI to MA. Good to be back in the fun.

From PG4I, Jo

First 30 minutes worked a few US stations, then signals disappeared and went back to bed. Glad to work Dit, KS8KCC as K3Y/8. Welcome to Ron, GW3YDX with member number 25373!

PG4I

From VE2KZW, Robert

Only six QSOs but two new numbers towards Tx7, almost there with six to go. Some noise on 40 but very good reports both ways. But where were the people? I did not have the best antenna but I was hoping for a few more contacts. No luck on 80; I could hear a few people but my signal was not getting out. It was still worth the effort and it will be better next month. Thanks all, 73, Robert.

VE2KZW

From VE7HI, Ken

20m shut down for me quickly. Thanks for the sprints. CUL!

From W1RCP, Robbie "Rob" Pitts

Seems that my CQs went into the ether void of return for the most part. Had a few busted QSOs where the stations faded into nothing. It was fun, though. See y'all next time!

From W1ZIY, Ron

Was on 40 meters for a short time but did work the bonus station. Thank you Roger.

From W6LAX, Roger

I had fun operating as K3Y/6.

From WA5RML, Andy

Was able to squeeze in some time at the tail end of the sprint. Many thanks to WA6URY (Dan), KS8KCC (K3Y/8 - "Dit"), N7PHI (K3Y/7 - Derek) and AF2Z (K3Y/2 - Drew) for the QSOs! Elecraft KX3, KXPA100 and PX3 at 75 Wts to a very low 40M dipole (5 ft) in my backyard.

WA5RML

From WA6URY, Dan

Operated remote from Tokyo, Japan

From WB8ENE, Art

This was my first weekday sprint in a couple years. Started off QRP, but switched to QRO after my first QSO. Stayed on 40 and 80 meters. Thanks for the 15 mile DX contact to Stow, Ohio on 40 meters Mike KE8Y. Thanks to all for the contacts. 73, Art

From WB9HFK, Mark

Thanks for the QSO's! A fun evening using the J-37! 73, Mark WB9HFK
