50 in 50

I have an idea for getting WAS in 50 days, It's called "50 in 50" I don't know if something like this has been thought of before, so here it goes. Designate an OP or OP's in each of the 50 states. Work from one state to next each day, and in 50 days you could have your WAS. this could also be called 50 in 75 or 50 in 100, which ever way would work out the best. or you could get really nuts about it, and work all 50 in a weekend!!

Maybe we can have a "48 in 48" to start. AK and HI are hard to find (Well actually, I had a harder time finding MA in 2006).

You can upgrade to "49 in 49" or "50 in 50" if you luck out with AK and HI.

The Elecraft Awards program has a "50 in 50" award for working an Elecraft operator in each of the 50 states. I think the "50 in 50" WAS concept is great; let's make sure we don't confuse the two awards.

50-50

When I was a novice in 89, I worked all fifty states in 42 days. And all that on 40 meters, with a SB-101, barefoot of course and a unresonent wire. Mind you, one could call CQ on 7.110 and it was a rare day when someone wouldn't come back to you. From my first contact in Fresno, Ca. the the Lase one in West Virgina, it can be done. I must also say, I spent many long hours into the night sending CQ (at the end by state: IE: CQ WV), and I spent (for the time in question) a few bucks with SASE's getting all fifty confirmed. I did not work any other band, just 40. With the Web now and the Sprint, QRP day, First of the month, etc. and other bands to use you should be able to do it in 50 days. I would op for a winter try, more hams shack bound, not out fishing or tending the garden. And again, plan on spending lots of time operating....like every day and up into the night. I also think working from the west coast is easier than working from the east coast to get the 50-50. My opinion.

I got my 50 states in 50 YEARS (not quite) Got the E-QSL.ca E-WAS a few years ago . Been trying since 1961 for that WAS and did not want to ship all my cards to the ARRL HQ .
YES they were ALL in my logbook too.

Would probably be too hard to organize the operators in each state. However, we could perhaps set up a SKCC WAS net from time to time. Couldn't guarantee that every state would be represented, or that it could be done in 50 days, but it might still be fun. Wonder if there are any SKCC guys around who might like to run a WAS net...
