Type of key

Post by kk4qyn » Sat Jun 14, 2014 8:04 pm

I just bought a Bencher lambic paddle, can I use this for QSO's instead of my straight key?
Thank you.

You will need an electronic keyer to go along with the paddles.

Bob, you can use your Bencher paddles for SKCC contacts if you don't hook it up to an electronic keyer. That leaves two main options:

1) Just tap 1 side of the paddles as a straight key.
2) Wire both paddles together and use it as a sideswiper.

You didn't mention what radio you're using. Most of the modern rigs have built in keyers and will take iambic paddles directly. Check the manual.
