CW Paddle

This maybe a dumb question....What is the NORMAL configuration of the paddle set up?
Right handed operation is the right paddle "dits" and left paddle "Dah's" or vice versa.
I've had people say it doesn't matter others say it does matter.
I would like to start out correctly and set up my key the way it should....

Normal right handed operation is dits with the thumb and dahs with the forefinger for bugs and paddles. For left handed, I don't know. I have heard of people configuring things opposite and it seems to work Ok for them.

Thanks Walt,
I kind of thought so, but I picked up a small key (paddle) and it was pre-wired backwards from manufacturer so I had my doubts.
Thanks for the reply.
