One of my operating positions...

Postby NW7US » Tue May 12, 2009 3:41 am

I have two places at my home from which I operate my CW station. One is my regular 'radio shack' which is in the basement, in my office. The other operating position is in my travel trailer, which is parked in the backyard of my house. The pictures here show the trailer, the backyard, and the operating position inside the trailer.

The operating position:

Hi Tomas, nice shack! You are an interesting person, been checking out your webpages. Lots of musicians in the SKCC. I play guitar and harmonica, used to play alto sax for about 10 years, but gave up the horn.

Here is what your flameproof looks like without the paint:

That's a VERY sharp-looking key! How did you remove the paint and achieve such a sharp result?

I have another project I want to undertake sometime in the near future. I have a sounder that I would like to interface with the radio. I've heard that there is a sound-activated interface that allows you to use a sounder in place of your tone-producing speaker/headset. Ever see one of those?

You can find more info on how I did that key on my website at:

While this isn't exactly what you were looking for, for the KOB sounder project, its a starting point. Maybe someone will post something better.

Tomas, I have and use sounders all the time in my QSOs. The driver circuit is very simple. I used the circuit out of the book "Keys, Keys, Keys!". Here is a crude version of the circuit on the W1TP site:

Here is another version:

Copying CW via sounder is a great kick. Almost like opening a window to the past. Here is a picture of the current setup. The black box under the rig is my driver circuit:

Maybe we could try a Telegraph / Telegraph QSO some time?

Was your image on a server somewhere? If so, does that website make you login? Does it change the image link?

To post images within your message, go view that image in a web browser.
Start composing your Forum message and click on the Img button. It will place the opening tag .

You can type in the tags manually if you prefer.

Some image hosting services will change the link on you, just to prevent you from linking to it from another page. I think that may be the issue?
