Exchange idea

There's been a lot of discussion (on the email list) about potential elements to exchange during a sprint QSO. I suggest an exchange of the key type or model. I don't mean 'bug' or 'straight key'... more like the following: "speedx", "flameproof", "blue racer", "camelback", etc etc. I often ask what kind of key the other Op is using in normal non-sprint QSOs as it's obviously an interest and typically results in some nice conversation. Adding this to a special sprint exchange would be equally interesting.. and moreover.. it's something that can't be pre-programmed into the plethora of auto-filling sprint loggers out there.

As a twist, you could add the age of the key (approximate if unknown) and use that in some for for a bonus. Maybe add the age of the oldest key worked as a bonus. I think most keys can be fairly accurately dated, at least down to the decade, some more accurately.

Besides.. it would be fun to send my exchange: 599 / Paul / CA / 3358T / Camelback / 135yrs :D

Just some thoughts

I also think it might be an interesting idea, but only on a 'special' sprint for that reason. Probably not a good idea however on a regular 2-hour sprint such as sks, as it would take up more time per contact, esp if fills were requested. Those of us waiting to call someone after their QSO might doze off. ;-)

Defiantly NOT in a 2 hour sprint. On a special sprint maybe. It would be fun for a special, maybe once on a "mystery sprint" but not a regular event.
The RST thing in the 2 hour sprint is long to me. In such a short sprint I just stick with 5nn, 559 or "sri nil".

by ku8l is a new member perspective on this..

Participated in one weekday sprint so far.. My impression is that the exchanges are PAINFULLY slow already. PLEASE dont add any more to the exchange and make them longer than they are.

Lets make them shorter still so we can actually retain the descriptive term SPRINT.

I don't contest at all so have no comment on the exchange content.

I do like the idea of exchanging key info during a normal SKCC QSO. It is surprising how iinfrequently that is done. I like knowing what sort of key the other operator is using. Just a simple addition to the station equipment sent during the course of the conversation.

what key U hv?
