Weekend Sprint Idea(s)

Postby nn8b » Sat Apr 14, 2007 12:14 am

Bill,

Back in January, Rodney N4RAY had an idea to have a sprint or get together using the SKCC SK numbers. There's about 80 of those keys around now. We could maybe work the keys or key numbers into a weekend sprint.

Maybe add up the key numbers or how many SKCC keys you worked or a bonus for key to key QSO or for working a key.

Maybe call it the Golden Key Weekend Sprint.

Just something to kick aroiund.

I like the idea! Let's work out the details and book this for the May sprint. I don't use my SKCC key very much. This might be just the ticket to build my skills with it. I like the key to key qso bonus. I guess a SKCC award for WAK(eys) would be impossible judging by the imcomplete key owner list. But for the contest we would know from the submissions who was using thier skcc key and a worked all keys option could be added.

I see lot of potential variations. Maybe some others will join in with ideas.

I'd also like to try and decide on what month to have the "Craftsman Special" sprint. The one where we build our keys in a month using anything we want. I'd like to peek ahead at the contest calandar and try to find the best open 4th sunday for this event.

Don, could you rename this post to "Weekend sprint idea(s)" The other thread isn't really appropriate anymore.

Thanks for the great idea, thanking Rodney - N4RAY too!

Might I suggest October? That is the SPAR Key Month and we will again be offering an award for the best homebrew keys in several categories. We'd be happy to coordinate things with SKCC so we can augment interest on both accounts. Last year there were some really nice keys entered and the craftsmanship of several was unbelievable!

Hi Walt, that sounds like a great idea. October it is! That will give us time to work out the details. I don't have a machine shop or alot of fancy tools, but I think I can come up with something.

Re: [skcc] Need South Dakota Sked

Weekend Sprint Themes:

Rare States
Extra points to BOTH ops in a rare state QSO.
Rare states would include AK, HI, ND, SD, and ????

I can never find Mass. They are a rare state for me. ;)

or

State QSO Parties
Extra points to BOTH ops in designated states QSO.
Could designate one state in each call area. For example, one month would be
RI, NJ,DE, NC, TX, CA, WY,OH, WI, and ND.
CA would have to rotate with AK and HI, or they would be active every month.

or

Call Area QSO Parties
Scoring would be the same as state parties.

State or Call Area themes would cover a couple months. Rare States could be
one month or a couple.

Idea moved from yahoo.

I also agree a 24 hour event is not really a "sprint" per se so maybe we could call it a "sprint-a-thon".

There was mention of having different themes or variations in the event. How about one where you get extra credit for 10 & 15 meter qso's? Like 10X. Bob - K3MQ - #3151
