160 M suggested freq

I have been attempting some SKCC operation on 160 M lately but it seems like 1820 is at the edge of the DX "window".
When I am calling CQ SKCC I sometimes hear anolther station right on my freq and he just sends his call several times.
If I reply and say QRZ? (because he doesn't give my call, just his own) he keeps sending his call again...Then it dawned on me that he is calling some DX station who is transmitting farther up the band!
There are a few poor operators who operate split freq and don't bother to monitor their xmit freq before jumping into a pile-up.
My solutiion would be to move the SKCC suggested calling freq a bit down the band to maybe 1815 or some less busy freq.
What do you think?

I'm all for moving the freq down a bit. It will get us away from the DX window a bit and also away from this spur I get from a broadcast station on 1820 :)

If all goes well I'll have something on 160M this evening. I made 175 QSO's during the CQ contest, but it's a struggle with the 80M windom.

You must have a transmitter on 910 kHz nearby.
In my area there was a station relocated and granted a power increase from 5 to 50 kw. They built a transmitting facility about 25 miles south of me and have a 6 tower array aimed nearly dead on my direction. I can just detect their 2nd harmonic in the daylilght hours here.
Figuring the antenna gain they have an ERP of over 250 Kw in this direction!

I'm still needing about 15 more SKCC member numbers to get my 100 award on the Top Band, Hoping to finish the count soon but the summer storm static is starting up . Maybe next fall will be the time for me.
Anyone with a good 160 M antenna please look for me on the K3UK Sked Site some evening.

WELL........I made my hundred members on 160 but now I need more C/T's to get the 160M Tribune.
Will be looking for ops with the Big Antennas for the rest of the winter season....

I also have a problem with a 910 KHz local BC station that messes up 1820.

I might suggest 1814 KHz. This mimics the 7114 SKCC freq (as well as proposed 21114 and 28114 alternate frequencies). But I have no idea who might be using 1814 KHz for what purposes. If you guys want to monitor 1814 and try it out, maybe that would prove a suitable alternative to 1820...

Drew, just out of curiosity I checked the AMBC stations in yuor area to see what could interfere on 160M.
I found WURD on 900 kHz, 2nd harmonic falls on 1800
WCHR on 920, 2nd harmonic on 1840
WIP on 610, 3rd harmonic on 1830.
None have very strong transmitter power, 1-5 kW.
There are several 50 kw stations in your area and some mix could cause intermod almost on any frequency.
