New Services, Calendar and Chat

We're working on a couple of new services which may end up on the SKCC site if accepted.

The first is an Events calendar. This calendar is in UTC only so there will be no confusion. A few of us are testing it out trying to figure out all the glitches so we can be of some help when it goes live.

The second is an online realtime chat that can also be used as a spotting network. It went live for pubic testing last night and so far there was only one person that had problems logging it. Eventually he made it in but we have no idea what the original problem was.

For the chat, I was thinking a room for general conversation and another room for spotting. In addition, private or additional rooms may be set up for conversations. I hope we find this useful beyond simply spotting each other.

The calendar is not ready for public testing. I'll post the link when it is. The chat is open for testing now at Please report any problems, questions or comments to me.

Sorry, I haven't been in the chatroom lately. I'm recovering from a hard drive crash. I hope to soon be able to join in again. This was fun and before my crash, I used it for setting up private skeds. The photo sharing works nicely too.

Kev, I'd like to put a link to it from my skcc webpage. Maybe some label like K4VD's SKCC Chatroom? if that would be alright with you. Andy's cluster works fine but this just gives so much more flexability. Maybe if some of the members linked it, more people would join in.

I hadn't decided yet to make the chat room permanent but maybe now is the time. I have had no problems with it at all other than one person having a hard time signing up.

Please put a link to it on your site. Better yet, if you could put a link to my home page I'll add a link to the chat room. That way, if I move it I can update the link.

I'll put a link in my weblinks section back to your website.

Thank you!
