60M awards ?

Now that CW will be allowed on 60M after 5 March 2012, we need some SKCC activity sanctioned by the Club board of directors.
Maybe starting small like 25-50-75-100 members worked on 60M awards ?

have 3 SKCC members on 60M so far.
Anyone else interested in this "new" band?

I am interested, but feel a bit under the microscope there.

If there was to be some sanctioned SKCC activity there we'd really have to mind our p's and q's. Would hate to see SKCC get a bad reputation there for members not being spot on in frequency, as required. (I am thinking of the sprints where guys will call you several hundred Hz off frequency...)

I'm on the band from time to time. Also, I now have a Reverse Beacon on the band.. one of 3 or 4 out there. I'm amazed how few calls are being spotted. Just a hand full of the same calls over and over.

I like the ARRL suggestion for CW and Digi ops to start on the lower channels and work up until a clear channel is available; and SSB ops start at the top and work down. However, there seem to be many long standing SSB round tables on specific frequencies that probably won't want to change (I'm going to assume a bit of the 75 mtr mentality exists). The good news is there always seems to be an open channel to work.

So, I'll try to monitor the lowest clear channel for CW activity.. and will put out a short CQ from time to time.

Hope to see you on the band.

I don't really know much about reverse beacons and skimmers and other digi stuff but I do get on when the lightning noise is not too bad and at lest try a CQ or two. Make a few QSOs per attempt to get on 60M. I try to catch if a member is on with the K3UK sked page.
As for callers off freq..I beg ops to be DARNED sure they REALLY know how to use thier rigs before attempting to get on the 60M band !!!!

I have worked a few new SKCC members on 60M since last post here, now have 24 states worked but the few SKCC members I have chatted with on the K3UK page mention firmware or software changes needed for newer rigs to go to 60M ! What a bummer !
My 18 year old Kenwood only needed a jumper change to go to all the new WARC bands and 60M.
The only tedious thing I had to do was program the 5 SSB and 5 CW channel freqs into the otherwise unused memory channels.
The numeric keypad on the TS440s gets balky to use after many years of no use !

I am now up to 44 SKCC members on 60M CW . There seems to be a slow and steady uptake of 60M CW operation in progress. My goal is 100 members on 60M by next spring.
Now and then I meet someone who is sure CW is still not permitterd on 60 ! Keep up with the rule changes folks !
The lower bands are getting better as the thunderstorm season is ending. See you on 160, 80 and 60M soon !

Thanks for the 60m Q John. Sorry I had to cut it short. No ant. for 60m yet! I was on my fan dipole (40-80-160) and the radio didn't like it! Nor did my TV,PC, or anything else in the room!! :D

Now well over 100 member worked on 60M with the SKCC single band Centurion and Tribune confirmed !
It is an interesting band and I will keep going and hope to hear new SKCC members keep coming over to 60M !
