Thanks Ron. The picture where the front panel display is "reflective" wasn't exposed primarily for the rig as much as it was the key. Heh. :)

Thanks for the reply Ron. I have not added any oil yet. Someone had suggested it to me at Hamvention...but honestly since testing it out on air the other night, I don't think it'll need it. I'm thinking that either tomorrow night or sometime Saturday I may put out a CQ SKCC on 7.114 (and will get on...

Thanks Ron! Well, I had just enough time to hook the wire up to the key and plug it into the rig. Worked like a charm! :) Just had to make a small adjustment on one of the screws so that the key arm didn't travel so far...and then it felt GREAT. I might put a small drop of oil on each side where it ...

Thank you for that note of encouragement Randy! I've read a lot of good things about this key...and it will be a sentimental key for me and one that I'll never get rid of. You may have read elsewhere, but both of my grandfathers served in WWII in the Navy, and one was a signalman. Grandpa Kramer may...

Hello Randy! Unfortunately, no luck with any satellites yet. I just got home from the Hamvention late yesterday (Sunday), and spent time with my XYL and 6 year old harmonic. And then I had to go back to work today. Glad to have a job, but MAN can it mess with having some fun with new toys! ;) Hi hi....

Wow...I forgot I had posted this! (Sorry all!) Just an update: I took the Extra Exam on April 9, 2011. I passed! I earned a 94% Other updates: Earned my WAS (mixed) and have now bought my first key (previous key I was using was borrowed.) I will now be trying to concentrate on CW and working Satelli...

Proud to show the latest addition to my station, acquired at Hamvention 2011. I hope to work many SKCC members on this (and my next focus in this hobby WILL be getting better at CW):

Well...I managed to comprehend the General level...let me dig into the manual and see what the Extra holds for me in terms if the math and then I'll repost here.

Memorizing rules is nit an issue for me. Not worried about that part.

Thanks!

Mark, this was my 2nd key. This page loads slowly, but has nice pictures. http://www.skccgroup.com/sprint/wes/results/nt9k/ I made that key with a hand saw, dremel tool and cordless drill. I kept the corners square by using a mitre box and hand saw. The pictures at the bottom of the page are my han...

Thanks Bill. I have a feeling my results may be a mix of the two. I'm going to seek to study and LEARN the material that I can... and the concepts that I just have trouble with, try to memorize what is correct. I have to be honest with myself. But, I will try to actually understand all the material ...

Thank you Curt! :) I'm very thankful to have the gear that I do. Nothing like any amps or fancy audio processing gear, but its gotten me on HF, and I'm enjoying it.

Studying for my Extra

Good morning SKCC. I've decided that I'm going to start studying for my Extra through the fall/early winter, and take my exam either late winter or Spring (depending on how ready I think I am or not.) I've purchased the ARRL Extra License Manual, as I found the Tech and General to be very beneficial...
