Re: Homebrew bug-made from wood!!!

Very cool homemade bug, Mark! Are there any constructions details or plans available? I would like to try making one.

Thanks for your input, guys. The K1 and 817 are nice, but a little out of my budget right now. The milliwatt variety seem a little too minimal for what I have in mind. So, it seems Oak Hills Research or MFJ have about what I'm looking for. Haven't made a firm decision yet, but leaning toward the Cub...

Portable QRP rig

I am interested in getting a taste of QRP and portable operating. I would like a CW rig, since they are much simpler in construction and I don't operate on phone much anyway. I would like something that will introduce me to the fun of QRP and portable operating, and possibly also kit building, that ...

Portable antennas

A friend of mine went to considerable time, effort, and expense to build a multi-band, supposedly portable, vertical antenna from aluminum tubing. He used modeling software, consulted with experts, etc. The result, if I am totally honest, performs quite well on the air but is a huge monstrosity that...

MCW tone generator?

A friend and I have a cw sked every Sunday evening on 40 meters to practice our code. I found an article in the QST archive (July 1997) about an MCW tone generator. We are thinking of starting a 2 meter cw net, since more people in our area might be able to participate that way. Has anyone made one ...

I don't think I have what it takes to be an editor, but I would be willing to help in some way.

3-14-10 WES

I enjoyed participating the this month's WES. It was lots of fun. I appreciate everyone who was patient with me when I asked for repeats. I like the less formal nature of the event, and the fact that I don't have to copy 30 wpm in order to participate! I think these events give me some valuable expe...

Affordable keys

Do you guys know of some affordable keys that are better quality/feel than the Ameco that I've been using? I could go as high as $100, but would prefer less.

By the way, what was your first key/rig? Do you find that you have a sentimental attachment to it?

Thanks, Garth

RE: Tuning up

Walt,

Thanks for the response. It was helpful. After I find the initial settings I will write them down to save time and avoid QRM.

Garth, KF7ATL

PS: I think I worked your station once, possibly during WES.

QRL?

Don't misunderstand when I ask this question. I'm not being a smart %**, I really want to know the answer.

What is the proper way to tune up with a manual antenna tuner? How do I sent "QRL?" before tuning up if I know that my SWR will be high?
