John provided me with a very similar formula. In Excel it is: =B2/LOG(C2/0.001, 10) Where: B2 is SCORE C2 is POWER In both cases, the places in the current SKS would change only slightly. In each case (marked by *), a lower power station rose above a higher power station when the point spread was cl...

I wish I was more mechanically inclined. This sounds like a cool operating/homebrewing event.

This sounds like something that would work well for a sprint theme a couple time a year maybe.

K3N was reserved on the last day of the year for the last two years. Free at the moment. The rest look good.

What a neat idea! Next year's anniversary? If so, let's move this thread and keep a shadow copy here.

I get two or three emails from it each day. They are not spam. Someone just hitting ASGDSJFASD on their keyboard and pressing the send button. I think they are just trying it out so it is no bother to me. If spam does become a problem, I'll do more to protect it. I now use Captcha for comments in my...

Once you made the decision to move forward, advertise it daily at least on the reflector so people have a chance to see it. Ask Frank to set up a reminder in the Yahoo calendar. I wrote the form myself in php. It is actually pretty simple. I'll dig up the php code and send you copies. You'll have to...

Bill: What kind of graphics programs do you have available? I created the SKS certificate in Corel Draw X3 but might be able to save it in a format you can modify. Try contacting Same KB3DNZ <KB3EDNZ@p1s.com>. He has that membership certificate that it created online. Maybe someone can help modify t...

If I send in 10 cards for the sweep, do I get the cards and a certificate?

Yes, you get cards and the certificate. The cards do have the QSL/QSO information on them. They will be stamped Verified by me so they should be valid QSL cards for other awards.

There is 1 through 20, then double and triple (=60 so far). Then there's the bull and double bull. 62 unique values? But I was ignoring the doubles and triples. To double out, you'd have to get the same score twice. If they are ignored, then there are 21 (1-20 + bullseye) on the board. Are we thinki...

Agreed, the whole number would need to be traded though only the last two digits would count for the score. Unfortunately, for something like this to work especially if we do the team concept, a computer would be required. You and your teammate would have to coordinate your scores. An option could b...

Personally, I like the weekend QRP sprint. We have a lot of members that are dedicated QRP operators and some such as myself that are part time enthusiasts looking for an excuse to crank the power down.

I hadn't decided yet to make the chat room permanent but maybe now is the time. I have had no problems with it at all other than one person having a hard time signing up. Please put a link to it on your site. Better yet, if you could put a link to my home page I'll add a link to the chat room. That ...

Howdy Drew: I see this as a slightly different concept from the normal contest. Think of it more as a sports event where you have players competing and fans watching. The difference here is, the fans help determine the winners. I know this isn't the way an on-air event usually goes. That might be pa...

Don: I've not actually seen your tracker yet - I guess I should look before I ask, but I'll ask anyway. Does (or can) the tracker be set up for multiple SKCC awards? It would be nice to keep it all together instead of having to fill out a different log for each new award program. But I can see that ...

Darts Tourney

This discussion started on Yahoo group. It is placed here for further development. From Dan KC5GXL: hehehe; Interesting thread! Why not score it like darts 501? Everyone starts with say, 1000 points and you work down to Zero points. The object would be to see how many skcc members one can work to ge...

You're right Detrick, normally you mention it and you run it. It is a lot of fun running an awards program for SKCC, also quite a bit of work. I've found that out in the past year. I think Don NN8B would be an excellent person to contact. He has been maintaining the awards tracker and will be able h...

Excellent comments Detrick. I didn't use your name in my post to the Yahoo group because you originally showed up as "Guest". I couldn't figure out who you were. :) Let's assume this is going to move forward. Some thought should be given to who is going to run the program. Would that be yo...

I always thought of 40 meters being the best band for starting out and for the long term. Those short wave stations out there sure make it a challenge in the evenings but during the day it is a great band for ragchewing. During the winter, 80 is a generally a good band in the evening. When the going...

Another transfer from Yahoo: Interesting, but I think it might be easier to understand if, instead of using 1/20 point for a 20-year old and 1/65 for a 65-year old, we were to use a system of subtracting the persons age from 100 and go for a score of, say, 500 points, or even 1000. A 20-year old wou...

Comment from the Yahoo! group: Kev: How about some handicap or adjustment based on how long the op has been licensed? Should a 65 yr old opr pounding brass for 50 years be the same as 65 yr old just coming into the hobby? Just wondering. Also, the young buck at 20 doesn't get as much for working the...

Technically, every day is QRP day and Straight Key Night and ... I noticed that one of the (non-SKCC) contests this weekend is being performed in session...

Let the Fun Begin

Well this is where we start planning for the SKCC 2nd Anniversary Special Event. A warm welcome back to all of last year's coordinators. To start off the discussion, I would like to propose some general ideas to guide us through the planning. Some of this is based on comments I've received, ideas I'...

Hi Win:

I'm not sure this is the right place to ask the question. Maybe up in General Discussion.

I believe the rule is, if you can't use a straight key for medical reasons, you are more than welcome to join in on all the fun with an Iambic.
