I enjoyed working everyone in the sprint, especially the several QRPp stations. I especially liked this QRP tailored event since I didn't have to keep my receive attenuator on. I was using 5 W to a 20 m long inverted-L antenna for all bands. I was also using my a WWII Bendix Radio Corp. Flame Proof key.
This was my first WES using 5 watts. Operating QRP was fun and a bit challenging. Thanks to all that participated.
I spent most of the weekend playing around in the ARRL SSB DX contest. I did take enough time out from that to make sure I got on the scoreboard for WES. Thanks for the FB QSOs!
Had fun with this WES. I am getting more relaxed at keying with each SKCC WES and Sprints. Nice to hear the QRPs out there too.
AWESOME wes, and a great idea to do a QRP thing. I'm not normally a qrp guy, but really enjoyed the challenge (got 15 qrp contacts) and had a lot of fun for the time I was able to play. Thanks as always!!
I had very little time for the WES but ran the KX3 at 1 Watt throughout. I only worked S&P on 15M, 20M, 40M, and 80M.

Lots of fun! Thanks for all the QSOs, Jim
I had alot of fun working the many QRP stations in this month's event. Also collected enough new C/T/S member numbers for my Tribunex3 endorsement. See you again next month! Mitch - AD0HJ
I only got on for an hour this weekend, but sure had fun! I really hope we have a QRP sprint like this again sometime!!!
Wow! You can communicate a long ways on 5W. First time I've run 5W QRP on all contacts. Many couldn't hear me, others could. Thank you all who tried.
Lots of sigs but some wild QSB. Spent most time on 20m. Rig: Elecraft K3 @ 100 watts; indoor cobweb antenna; Junker straight key.
Super WES! Enjoyed playing QRP Ops when I could!
Had family duties, etc., but got in the last 20 minutes. Great to hear 40 m packed with QRP sigs!
Beautiful, warm sunny day competing with sitting in the shack. The day won. However, the WES was complete as I worked W9DLN and F6HKA among a few others. As usual, had a good time. 73/72 until next month, Peter.
This was the first WES that I have worked mobile. It was fun doing so while traveling this weekend. I was limited in my time but the highlight of the WES for me was working Bert, F6HKA, in France while driving down the road in SE Alabama while running QRP power into a mag mount antenna on the roof of the car. Thanks to the organizers of the WES and for those that have helped in many ways to make it happen.
This was a very fast paced and fun event for me. Spent only about 3 hours entire weekend on radio and was surprised at how many QSO's I made. I bounced back and forth between QRO and QRP
Sunny at 18°C and the monthly WES is about QRP(p):
I grabbed my homemade 15m QRPp Transceiver ( <1W )
an EFHW and my Palm portable straight key and biked to a nearby park.
Found a free park bench, threw my wire into a tree
and within an hour three U.S. hams went into the log ( Bill/KE3O, John/N3WT, Dick/W2WC )
Unfortunately not all of them realized I was QRPp not QRP, have to make that more clear next time.
Thanks OMs, was my first WES ever and... pure fun !
it was the first nice spring weekend here in
Germany. So I sped most of the time outside.
But WES was fun as always !!
Wonderful and funny week-end.I like it more and more.I need to work on antennas to be able to hear more SKCC-s , I have heard many stations at the noise level.....Anyway , I can"t stop touching a key, is irresistible. And before of all , I have so many things to learn from you all.....Thanks for contacts.Next WES I will activate like Centurion (I"ve just received the notification )A great 73 , Andy - EA5IIK.
Nice to have a few contacts with QRP and QRPp stations.
I tried to call with less than 5 watts but never had a reply. It was a bit easier with my 60 watts to catch 41 SKCCers during a 10 hours traffic duration, as usual with a great pleasure !
73 everybody and see you next time !
Good fun - Sunday the solar activity made things noisy and sometimes sigs disappeared completly. Key used was a big Air Ministry "D" Type key. Rig TS-440SAT and a MA6V vertical.
73. John / SKCC 2133T
First WES I have entered. Enjoyed it although I only made a few QSOs. Will try harder next time!
Thank you for QSO.
My rig was a K2 RNG 100W. Ant was a 4 elemets yagi 17mh. Key was a GHD bug CD107WS.
Interesting weekend. Bands up and down. Used a Chameleon F-Loop magnetic loop antenna on the kitchen table, FT-817ND, Palm Single Lever (set for manual code, left side with thumb), a variety of QRP tuners/bridges. Thank you to all that pulled my signal out of the mud. 73, John
A late start, our ARES group hosted HAM 101 Sat. morn for new and prospective operators. I had hoped to get W0KCN on the air from the EOC. I did operate QRP from home with nice results. Some new numbers along with old friends...Great fun...73 Rick
Had a great time on WES. Picked up 12 for my Tx8 and good practice with cootie key. My modified cootie and SK combo. Mike (K0MC)
I finally cranked up my tower for the first time with the ZS6BKW dipole center at 55 feet. The ground-less R7 vertical will be history, except for shop use. I'm hoping to have more time for SKCC during the coming year.
a few hours work on 40M and 20M produced QSO's with 25 states and two provinces. The QRP stations provided a challenge in this one, but I commend their perseverance with the poor band conditions. I used a TS-440S and brass straight key.
Loads of fun. Wish I had more time for the event. Hope to see you in the SKS
Thanks for the QSO's. WES time was short but enjoyable. C U next sprint.
First time I have used QRPp during a WES event. It was fun, but has its challenges (like arm getting worn out from sitting on a frequency calling CQ, and repeatedly getting pushed to the back of the line whenever wandering around and answering other's CQs). But, will probably subject myself to that pain and suffering again :-) Jody - K3JZD
This is the second WES that I participated in. I never thought I'd reach 275 QSO's and I never thought I could sit so long. I'm stumbling around but learning. The best part was meeting so many of you.
Family kept me from being on as much as wanted. Bands didn't seem too well here as would have liked, but I still put in what time I could. 1W to a pair of dipole down low doesn't help, but was fun anyway. Should have antennas higher for next time to see if that helps. Got a little time in on bug also.
Finally getting back on the air since moving from the country to the city. Antenna restricted development is a challenge. It was nice to hear old friends and meet some of the new guys. Look forward to being more active in future events.
Enjoyed working all the QRP and QRPp'ers. Some really great signals.
Tried 40M and 15M during the day and could not raise anyone. 20M was quite active for me. I like the QRP points I was running QRP and glad to help out. 72/73 Steve K4JPN
I was in S&P mode to pick up new Ts and Ss on 15m and answered a few Sked Page requests, mostly on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon 15m turned into a a wide-band RF slug-fest all the way to 21.060 when DXpedition E30MP started operating on 21.032. Fell seven short of reaching my 15M Sx2 goal but maybe a lot of new Ts will have been "born" this weekend for me to hunt down. Hope to see you all next month. 73 de K6ELQ Tony
Elecraft K2 @ 5w - Saturday CONDX were poor.
Casual ops here. Think my 2el beam is in trouble (SWR). Ravages of Winter, I suspect. Jerry
Weekend Sprintathon helped put me over the top for Centurion today! 10m was rockin' when stations called; QRP stations boomed on that band! Used my trusty Novice J-38 though you may have also heard me on either my 1980's Vibroplex or my 1940's National telegraph bugs.
Very poor propagations, but a fun activity all the dame. Special tnx to the QRP stations.
Sometimes quality beats quantity. That was the case for me in this WES. 49 contacts with 28 states isn't bad. But it appears that SKCC now stands for Serious Keyers from Contributing Countries. For I also made contact with Puerto Rico, England, Czech Republic, Poland, Argentina, and two from France! :-). See you next month.
Only had about 2 hours but managed 33 QSOs. 10M was open a little but without my Yagi ant available, I only made one QSO on that band. (with a QRP station in FL !)
I got most of my points on 40 and 20 M this month.
I was on the air just under 13 hours for this WES. QSOs by band: 40m = 56, 20m = 73, 15m = 30, 10m = 7. Perhaps the biggest surprise was getting called by G3ZRJ on 10m around 1900Z Sunday. Sorry I missed some of the QRP stations calling me due to the local QRN. TNX again for the fun time. 73, Bill
I wish that I could have spent more time as I originally intended, but there are other things in life that call us away from our favorite pastime. However, I can say that it was truly fun pulling some of the very weak QRP signals out of the mud, although I'm sure I could have had more if it wasn't for the normal S8-S9 QRN that I have on many of my bands. I had a GREAT time!!!!
Good to escape the winter up north and spend some time at my south Fla QTH. Sitting on the dock making QSO's is more fun than sitting in the basement. 20m Dipole @ 25' and 40m inv-v @ 36'. TS590S running 100W. Thanks to all for the QSO's and 73, Tim K9TM
First time running QRPp for WES. Used a homebrew rig on 40m, FT-101 on 20m. Lots of fun, thanks to everyone for the QSOs.
A good wekend sprint here in WNY. Bands were pretty good. Rig:Icom IC-700 at 30 watts into dipole up 25 ft. w/ straight key.
That one was fun! I got 5 2xQRP QSO's but did not get a QRPp with anyone. Great fun and CU next month.
I was only on enough to get 38 QSO's, but I picked up enough new numbers to complete Sx2. I worked 17 QRP stations, 3 with 1 watt or less. Like always, a lot of fun.
Looks like I misinterpreted the scoring rules, so went back to refigure my score. I liked the other one better, but this is more honest. Looks like I had a lot of company for misunderstanding the rules. Anyway, it was fun. Used a K-2 @5 watts to a G5RV with a Begali Spark key. Looking forward to the next sprint. 72/73 Phil
Lots of QRP. That's great.
The casual contester. My best WES. Used my new Flex-6300 and my MFJ-553 straight key!
WES #2. I would have been able to work more, but I had my two youngest children with me this weekend. The highlight of the weekend was working Bert F6HKA on 20m. Always a great time. Thanks to those that helped me get that much closer to my Centurion award. 73 from the gradually warming and melting Buffalo NY!
First WES since my PC crashed in the Fall. I will be back!!
Hate I missed this one!! Bands were great. I played S&P for 20 minutes and never wanted for a signal.
Even the QRPp signals were solid copy!
Rig was the FX4-a by LnR Precision into a doublet at 35 feet. Key was the 2014 SKCC Club Key.
73 for now,
Lots of fun. Used a Lil Squall and a 40-9er on 40M @ 300mW to a 40M horizontal loop up 50'; an SST-20 @ 800mW to an 88' doublet up 50' on 20M. The Lil Squall to MD was the high point for me.
Worked 7 QRP Stations and 1 QRPp station.
Great fun. Good to work many other QRP and QRPp stations. I know I must have missed some because of the noise level on Sunday. This was also a test of my latest end fed wire antenna, which is over the roof to keep it inconspicuous and in the good graces of the HOA... It was buried under our last snowfall and I noticed the SWR danced a bit as the ice and snow melted off.
Using "new" old Kenwood TS830s to a 180' diameter loop antenna up 8 ft from ground. Homebrew cootie
key. Everyone is getting faster over time!
One fourth of my contacts were 2 X QRP and I wasn't even looking for QRPs. That's got to say something.
ANOTHER FUN WES. NEVER HEARD SO MANY GREAT QRP SIGNALS. I BET THERE WILL BE A RUN ON KX3'S. BANDS WERE NOT KIND ON SUNDAY PLUS DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO OPERATE ON SUNDAY. LOVED IT THAT QRP WAS WORTH SOMETHING EXTRA THIS TIME. ALSO PLENTY OF DX STATIONS. I MANAGED TO WORK BERT F6HKA ON 5 BANDS, HE HAS GREAT EARS.
First time operating WES using SKCC logger. Made things so easy. 73's Joe
Limited time, down with the flu. Will try more QRP in the coming months. Also looking forward to Spring and Summer. QRP is a great outdoor activity. Ran my K2 at 5 watts and the Vibroplex "Champion" and J-38. Antennas G5RV and Tri-band Yagi pointing west. Thanks to all and 72.
Had a great time running Wes this weekend. Thanks to all the QRP stations, some had a really great signal.
73's KD8BBK Tony
Spent weekend visiting hospital and only did WES for 14 minutes BUT worked Joe, SP6JOE and Peter, (DL3PB/P) QRP on 15 meters during that time. Seemed like great early a.m. prop fm hr to EU. Hpe 2 c u all nxt time. 73, Bill
My first WES! I didn't have much time to devote to WES, but I had a good time. I'll be back.
I've only been back on the air for 3 weeks after a 33 year QRT. So this "non-contest contest" was great for me to knock a bit of the rust off my copy speed and procedures. TNX to all the OPs who took time with me!
Another Challenging hunt!
What a fun sprint! Great to see such a big turn out among the QRP entrants. Especially the QRPp-1 watt stations. Conditions on 20M was pretty good and 40M was exceptional for low power contacts. Too bad 10 and 15M never did open for me. My K1 and some new antennas got a real workout on Saturday - not able to operate Sunday. See you all next time...72,Gary
Elecraft K1 at 1w indicated, J45 leg key for nearly all but a few Vibroplex QSO's. My first WES, had a great time.
First effort as QRP. Usually go for QRO, but I was surprised at how many QSO's could be had with only 5W. Could not get several stations to hear me, but still a lot of fun. KG6MC
Nice chance to exercise my new Elecraft K2. I ran my K2 at 10 watts - felt kinda excessive talking to at least one fellow running 100 milli-Watts! Almost all contacts on 40 meters. Fun event - SKCC is one of the best things that has happened in amateur radio, especially after listening to the wreckage of K1N.
A very fun sprint. Started out with 500mW and then dropped to 100mW Sat night for the remainder of the sprint.
Thanks to those folks who pulled me out of the background. I hope to hear you next month.
Part time effort. Saturday propagation was awful!
2el beam exhibiting poor SWR - ravages of winter, I guess. Rig=Elecraft K2@5w de Jerry
Good prop, Fun WES. Thanks all for the Qīs, apologize to the ones I couldnīt hear.
Looking forward to the next... BCNU 73, Walt- ..-
TA33 - 50W - HM DSK + restored Swedish Pump Key WWII era
Great band conditions, 10-15-20. QRM on 15, but nothing's perfect. Amazing how well the QRP rigs did!
Not much time to play. Sorry. See everyone next time. 73 Outlaw #3 Bill
Haven't been in a WES in a long time but back again !! Good to work new and old friends. TT Argosy 525 at 1 watt and a ZeroFive 40m vertical. I was just using 15 and 40m minus the tuner. Used my good ol Vibroplex 100th Anniversary Bug !!!
So, my thanks again to the folks who put this on. WES is my very favorite event of the month consistently. Great time had and saw several old chums and took a few side trips to have QSO's with non contesting stations too. Just a few short of my centurion now, fewer than 5! So keep your ears open for me in the next week calling CW SKCC to finish that out. Best 73 and very nice to hear all the QRP best 72.
Please scroll up to KD8BBK. That is me on the left, Tony, KD8BBK on the right. We are posing for for serious WES picture. Of course it was hard not to laugh. We spent Saturday, and Saturday night hanging out in Tony's shack running WES to to do something different. Well I think we might have laughed more than making contacts at times! Had a blast! Tnx for all the QRP bonus stations.
I really enjoyed the QRP/QRPp theme! The BirmingHAMfest was this weekend and that limited the time I could operate. It was great to hear all the QRP/QRPp stations - DE Dennis - N4NR
A super WES for me at 5watts. I thank all those fine Ops that pulled my QRP out of the noise and QRM. Big thrill to work Bert, F6HKA on 4 bands. On Saturday morning I received my Begali Blade straight key from Tony, K6ELQ I am honored to be the new Owner of this well broken in Key. Thank you Tony and enjoy your new Begali "Sculpture Arrow". Blade Pix in the Soapbox. CU all next month. 73 de N4ow Al
It sure is great to have so much participation. The bands were in really good shape for the QRP guys and some had a honest to goodness 599 signal into NC.
Not much time this weekend for WES, but fun as always.
Fun Again!! Surprised at signal levels from QRP(p)stations....Let's do that drill again soon..73
What a blast, so many contacts and the low power was out in full. Out of 145 contacts 62 were qrp or qrpp. The SKCC leaders have done themselves proud. There are too many people that need to be congratulated and not enough space so just lets say we are very very pleased with this event. K3 at 1 watt 73/72.
No rain or snow here over the wknd, so got some things done outside that needed done so couldn't spend all my time playing radio. Also tnx fer putting up wid my practicing on my new Blue Racer. All the years on a straight key!!!!!! Time fer change hihi. 73 Randy
Went back and forth between ARRL DX and WES this weekend. WES was more fun!
Had a great time, had fun with my HB-1B and QRP and heard a lot of other QRP stations. Thanks all! -N9oL
Lots of fun running QRPp. There were only a handful of times when the other station couldn't hear me. Got a kick out of the reaction I got from the other stations when I was S9. I guess they didn't realize they were 20dB over S9 on my end. : )
BUSY THIS TIME, BUT STILL FUN.. ARG0 6 5 WTS MA5B AND G5RV... WAS WORKING ON AN ELECRAFT K1 KIT 40 ,20 MTRS... SUPER FUN TO BE BUILDING.. I HOPE WE SEE MORE QRP GUYS IN THE WES'S.....
SO, AGN THANKS TO THE BOARD AND SEE YOU ALL IN APRIL WES....... 73 DAVE N9ZXL/QRP.........
It was a terrific WES. The QRP/QRPp signals were booming into NJ. Now, if I could just get used to my new key. Ks and Qs were giving me fits today :-) Sorry if your call had them and I butchered it. See you next time! Glen, NK1N
Limited time to participate but fun nonetheless.
Thanks for the contacts. Best 73s from Miller City, Ohio de Mike (NO8C)
Good luck to all you guys.
I had a good time honing my CW SK skills as this was my fist SKCC Sprintathon.
This is my first WES | TS-450S es dipoles and Yagi.
Couple times the bands were weird, but there was always something open. Gave me the opportunity to complete 2xQRP award. Thanks to all for the fun.
Main qro rig was in shop, so I decided to break out the old DSW 20 and work 1W on 20 only. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Thanks to everyone for working me.
Newly registered in the club, first WES. I had another job, so I could look only occasionally on the band - but it was very enjoyable!
main target was ARRL DX. Only few minutes QRV in WES. CUL
TNX ALL, CUL IN NEXT SKCC EVENT. This is my P.S. 213 MARINE key, 73 PS7HD.
Worked 5 stations QRPP ,KJ4RGH Chris 100 mW fb sigs ,WA5KMA,N9SE,N8BB N2JNZ , plus 12 qso QRP. Very fine .In Saturday my first qso in WES with Alaska KL7IDA Bill 2713T , plus 3 qso with KP4.In Sunday first qso in WES with WA thanks Don W7GB. My 90 % qso was on 15 meters , rest on 20 m.Thanks all especially QRP and QRPP stns for their patience.
Great fun in the short time I participated in this WES. I was waiting for a SKCC QRP event.
I used an OHR-100A 5W built from kit, MFJ straight key and an inverted V for 20m.
Thanks to all stations contacted.
Luis - TI2CLX
I had a couple of hours to play with radio and decided to go outdoors. I went to my favourite spot: Shirleys Bay @Kanata (about 20km from Ottawa downtwon) - ON.
The temperature was about 28F - balm and sunny in the morning. Afternoon started snowing and became windy so I decided to pack and return home.
I was good to hear many familiar stations. I had a great time.
My station was KX-1, PWR ~2W and a 20M ground plane antenna supported by a 20' fishing pole.
72 to all.
Fun WES. Lots of amazing signals from QRP and QRPp stations.
I never realized that for this WES I was a "bonus" station... apologies to those I had contacts with, but now you know. Rig: ic-703+ at 5W, Ant: 43 Ft. Vert. wire, Straight Key: Scheunemann Handtaste. 73 Jose VE3DTI.
It serves me right for not reading the March WES announcement ... there was a reason the qrp guys were sending their power levels! Didn't figure it out 'til too late; wud have been fun to run the Sprintathon at 5 watts ... Congrats to all who did run low power ... some very impressive signals and some of the best ops are the guys with the peanut whistles (hi) ...
73 and cu all next time ... Ron VE3FMW
I enjoyed tnx
Thanks for another fun weekend sprint. 73 - Brian
Used HB1B with Bencher Hand Key. Looking for
new states in my WAS hunt but none to be had
this time. Fun sprint as always. CUL!
ran qrp-5w with what time I had to play. ten tec Jupiter at 5w, 160meter loop up 25ft, cootie key.Managed to catch 2 Missouri outlaws-N3PDT Doug and WB0PYF Ray
Had a great time as always. See you again in the next one.
A very interesting contest-First time I tried QRP and was surprised at results dropping from 100 watts to 5 only lowered my total qso 50 % from last WES and spc by 8 Great contest Dave
THANKS TO ALL THAT JOINED THE FUN. WORKED SOME ON SATURDAY AND A FEW ON SUNDAY. LOOK FORWARD TO APRIL WES AND HOPEFUL FOR WARMER WEATHER. 73 RON
WES is always great fun. Wish I had more time this weekend. The QRP Bonus worked quite well. Lots of QRP stations and had not trouble hearing any of them. 30 QRP out of 72 total QSOs. Thanks all for the QSOs. 73 de Art W2NRA 11634Sx3
Great operators in WES.
Next WES, I'm going to make arrangements for the xyl to visit her sister and take the dogs with her... ;-)
This is not the first time I have run QRPp but with the bonus point system, it was the most fun!
With my K3 at 1 watt I had reports from "WOW" 599 to 229. Band condx and propagation variances are most noticeable at very low power - both xmit and rx. Werner N8BB was very strong on both 40 and 20. I had 21 QRP qso's and 7 QRPp qsos. Had Q's on all bands but 160. G3ZRJ and F6HKA were my 2 dx contacts. Wished I had a bit more time for this one. 72 de WV
Always fun. Not much time to play this weekend. Thanks for the QRP qsos everyone.
Ran the K1 on 40 & 20, and the K3 on 15 & 80. Bands were in very good shape here in TN. Lot of fun!
This WES was fun! Wanted to be on the air more, but got to see the Wash Capitals steamroll the Buffalo Sabres in person and enjoy some of the warm weather on Sunday. Looking forward to the next Sprint. Tnx to all who gave me those nice signal reports. 72/73
Very enjoyable event. My first time to send in an entry. I ran .95 watts with KX3 measured by LP100A power meter. All work done on 20M. Antenna - 3 ele yagi @62 feet. Used AC2C's logging program. That is one fine logger with many different factors to take into account in computing score. Congrats, Ron.
Sure enjoyed this WES and had a chance to use almost all my various keys. Flex6300, KPA500 (used on & off) homebrewed OCFD @ 50'. Some of those Qrp stations had booming sigs. -shows the power of a good ant. system,IMO.
Fun Wes, Thanks to all who participated. 73
Band conditions were a little noisy on 20 meters. Worked the WES on & off over the weekend. Too many distractions, work, adding programs to a new laptop, 80 degree weather in southern California, going to lunch with my wife, life in general. Had a good time working the WES. Each month I plan on spending more time on the air but life gets in the way.
VFO for QRPp operation not yet ready for prime time, so its back to 5w "QRO" ;>)
Split my time this weekend between the WES and the ARRL DX Contest (phone) and enjoyed both.
A fun time -- towards the end I was getting tired and it seemed that most of my stations were ones I had worked before.... I picked up 13 new stations and had a blast-- Thanks to all the folks that make the WES a blast..73 ED/W7GVE.
Good contest, thanks everyone!
First WES contest for me had great time and fun big thanks AC2C Ron for all his help and work to make this a lot of fun. W8BUD Bud
w8nqi: St. key is still a problem but lots of fun anyway! Kept looking for old waterway cw net ops like wa5kma, kc4hch or several others but no luck. Maybe next sprint, hi!
Although I participated for only a few hours on Sunday, I nonetheless had a great time. It was fun handing out bonus points for my QRP. Thanks everyone! ~73~
Before I started this sprint, I set a goal of 50 contacts, and that is what I made, using just under 5 watts into an all-band vertical. Switched between my IC-7000 and IC-7200, using Kent Straight Keys. Made contacts on all the regular (non-WARC) bands, 80m thru 10m using the AC2C-SKCC-Logger. Good to work me old buddy George N2JNZ again with his 1 watt Argosy. Really a fun event with a lot of activity including new high-numbered members. Many thanks to the organizers and participants. Let's all do it again soon.
My first WES, and only one contact. I'll consider planning ahead for the next one. I spent a lot of time listening on 20m throughout the day - great fun, and a great way to promote CW. So glad I am getting back into ham radio after a 33 year break...
Had a good time the few hours I worked the contest.
Elecraft KX3 @5 wts to G5RV (40M/20M) and Cushcraft MA5V vertical (20M-10M). 1956 Vibroplex Original Deluxe bug. I was one (1) year old when that key was manufactured.
Very enjoyable time. Thanks to everyone for the QSOs. Some memorable ones:
(a) KG4IKQ - Jim was running 1 watt and had a strong, easily readable signal. Propagation is a wonderful thing. Tnx Jim!
(b) N8BB - Werner and I have had many 2xQRP contacts in the past, but in WES, he always seems to run 1W or less. Makes me wish there was an exclamation point in morse code to convey how good it was to hear him.
(c) What the heck! K9JWV (Jim)and N(SE (Marty) - also running 1 wt were very solid copy!
See the pattern here - I may have to start running 1 wt also!
Anyway - each one of my 35 QSOs was very much appreciated!
73 and CUL,
Andy - WA5RML
The Bands were extremely quite here in la.
I worked the wes on and off both days.
I had loads of fun .
Great wes,and great ops.
This WES was fantastic! I operate CW QRP almost exclusively with my Tentec 506 Rebel and this contest made working for a weak signal among many stronger ones fun and worthwhile for everyone. I can't wait for the next WES!
Good to get back on the air, qrp/p great idea. The KX3 was running strong, winter been hard on my antennas hi hi 73/72 Ray
I used my Kenwood TS-520S and SpeedX straight key again. Very interesting with all of the QRP and QRPp stations. I looked for them and worked all that I found. I was able to work Randy, KC9W, on 4 bands. I was impressed by how well the QRPp stations sounded when running 1W or 500mW. I plan to join the QRP ranks this Summer when I get a KX3 to use on my boat. It should be fun to do a WES while anchored in Narragansett Bay!
A K2, 5 watts, Speed X key and a wire in my attic. Not many contacts, but a lot of fun.
Used a K1 @ 5 watts and logged on my Ipad.
Nice theme this month, but I only worked one other QRPp station (Werner N8BB). Using a panadapter on the K3 really helps. Used a 132' doublet @ 15' for 40 and 15 meters, and a half wave dipole @ 20' for 20 meters. Thanks for the contacts with my peanut whistle signal. 73, Art
I had several projects this weekend but had a little more time to work the WES, the QRP bonus gave me a little more impetus to operate. QRP isn't much of a problem for the other station but having #12 seems to be a problem, nobody seems to believe they are hearing a 2-digit SKCC number! For this WES I used my Flex 3000 at 5 watts and my 1941 Vibroplex Original. I haven't used it since last summer and you could tell, thanks to all those to put up with my puny-weak signal and poor fist. It was cool to work a couple of 1 watt stations with solid copy.
It was very fun to see all the QRP going on. Warmed the low power output chambers of me 'art.
Another of my hobbies took a lot of my time this weekend. I only found a little time for WES, and it was fun as always. 73, Mike
QRP Search and Pounce is a lot of fun.
All the great operators with patience and good ears are a joy to work!
Yo-yo band conditions added spice.
KX3 at 5W, OCF dipole for 80m and 40m, rotatable dipole for 20m -> 10m, J-38 key.
Thanks to all!
Another fun event...EU coming in great this time...some of the qrp stations had amazing signals..hope to cu all next month!!!!
Busy weekend with temperatures finally getting up to freezing and above. I did get on the air once on Saturday and again on Sunday. Conditions on 20 and 15 were good. I made three contacts on 10 as well. Thanks for the contacts and some new numbers.
Thank you very much to all members SKCC for answering my call from Mexico. 73!
