First time to work a WES. Although I didn't have much time this weekend to devote to it, I really enjoyed it. I'll be back for more. 73 de AA5D Mitch
I enjoyed another WES weekend. I missed the clean sweep of Lincoln Hwy by two states, WY and NE. Thanks to all that participated and made this a fun event! 73's Carl
Another great WES! Thanks to everyone for the FB QSOs. Also, thanks to the organizers for putting these together.
Bands were crowded with other contests, but I enjoyed the contacts that I made.
K3/10 at 5W to the Inverted L. Key used was my Bencher RJ-2. Tnx for the QSOs!
A fun event but lacking participation from some key States.
Lots of fun and thanks for my 80 meter contacts. This is a tough band for me.
I can now apply for my Tribunex2 endorsement with the ten new C/T/S member numbers that I collected this weekend. Thanks for another great event! Mitch - AD0HJ
First WES in over two years. Limited time and a casual approach, but still a lot of fun.
Had a great time; (it's just another 'stoopid' Hobby - but I love it!!!) THANKS for putting on another FB WES QSO! Aloha/73 - Larry in MD
VERY limited time available this WES. Next month!
Just a few minutes to play in the WES. Thanks for the
contacts. 73/72 Peter
Really enjoyed working this month's WES after missing several in a row. It was nice to work some familiar calls and some new ones as well. Was one state of a sweep (couldn't work NE). It was nice to work France and the Czech Republic this month. Got a chance to use my new Bencher straight key. Looking forward to the next WES that I can participate in. 73 de AK4JA
Fun event, my jalopy didn't even make it onto the Lincoln Highway but I enjoyed the ride anyway!
This was a fun sprint, I only had a chance to play on about half a day on Saturday and about 15 minutes on Sunday. A special thanks to EA5IIK for providing the 'I's for Lincoln Highway.
again a nice WES. Lots of fun.
But noticed that the letter Y is very rare
in Callsigns. I saw not 1 Call.
Therefore no bonus this WES :-(
It's my second WES, and although the spread was not in good condition for my 10w, it was fun, and I must say is nice enjoy chivalry operators. Until another time. 73 Luis EA5HWP.
PD.The next WES, if good conditions in 20 m, try to work on QRPp 1 W (+/- 970 mW), this homebuilt team has worked 66 DXCC, 5 continents, 30 islands and 8 states USA, QSO more distant 10659 km with Nan JA4FKX/QRP (5W).
Nice the theme of this WES , unfortunately I was stopped in Illinois and I didnt catch any bus to continue my travel...Interesting and instructive, now I know one more thing abt America.
Very surprised to work qrp and qrpp stations, tnx.
I felt vy good , I like it much more than usually machine CW contests, even if here I need more patience hi,hi.See you in next WES.A great 73 and thanks all.
FT-1000D - dipole - 100W
One more time I enjoyed a seven hours of traffic for another fine WES.
I worked a few QRP stations : N8BB (<1watt !), KC9W (2 bands) and K3BVQ.
I worked NC1M on three bands and WB2UWU on "FIVE" bands ! The second time this occure for me in a WES after having contacted F6HKA on five bands, but this is much easier, hi !
Lucky to get my "Lincoln Highway" bonus but only five states for the other extra bonus.
Rig here : 60/70 watts into a multiband GP,
keys : Vibroplex Original (12 wpm), Lionel J36 (16 wpm), Speed-X bug (20 wpm) and a NATO pump key for QRS.
73 and See you all soon !
Great WES and managed 18 QSO's using a Scandinavian pump key.
A Norwegian "EB" Marine Key "a/s ELEKTRISK BUREAU OSLO", circa 1950.
73 John / GØRDO / SKCC 2133T
This is my first entry for the WES. Although only worked 12 stations, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found conditions on 15 and 10 metres difficult at times but did manage to complete the QSO's. I look forward to the next WES. Many thanks, Ken G4RHR
Great weekend for radio but the weather was also good Day one the IC-720A @ 12W nice reports. Sunday took time out to visit the WW1USA op at the KC Natl WW1 memorial..Thanks to all for the great reports.
pix not a novice rig but a good old rig...
My first WES using s-swiper and had a ball. Hope I wasn't to bad with it. A great bunch of ops and proud to be a part of this fine group. 73
Little hard at times with three other contests going at the same time. Rotor out and beams pointed NE. Great bunch of operators to work with...73
Great WES. Missed I and Y to get Lincoln Highway. Got quite a few new numbers now going for my "S". Tried to get some time to work the VT QP also.
Vy good condx in CT for the whole WES. Got European contacts from the back of the beam. Always fun to hear so many different fists and bugs. Got to get myself a cootie - maybe for next time. Great to work so many ops with high SKCC numbers - the group is thriving! VY 73 to all, Lee K1LEE
I found time to make a few contacts after a long absence from SKCC activity. My new building is completed and I'm setting up a regular station in it when my towers go up later this month. A slightly "chirpy" Viking II transmitter was used with an R-7 vertical. Receiving was accomplished wqith a 75A-4. 20 meters was the only band used for the short stint on Sunday afternoon.
In and out during WES, many distractions. Picture is the view out my condo back deck to woods where my antennas are hidden. I may not see my grill until, oh, July or so.
Nice week end for operating or else just shoveling more and more snow.
Not much time for this event but got in what I could. Bands were fair to midland. Hope to C U in the SKS. 73
Very happy to give Missouri Lady Outlaw Linda KF4MXF her first 160 meter contact. N8BB had great 160 Meter QRPp signal. Werner it looks like that good looking young kid on your QRZ page has turned into a old man LOL. Thanks for the Contacts, did not have a lot of time but always a fun event. C U next sprint.
Yaesu FT 817nd @ 1 watt & 500mWs - Delta loop
Interesting theme for my initial submission for a WES. Especially since I only live 5 miles off of this highway. Think I would have been more popular if I were in one of the highway states West of the Mississippi though.
Only had a few minutes to work. I just had too many irons in the fire. This included building and testing my new Elecraft KPA-500 amplifier! Thanks for the Qs.
This is the first contest event I have ever participated in and submitted results. It was lots of fun and very interesting. I understand how SKCC can become addictive. Hope to CU in other sprints..... 73's - de Ron K3SEW
FT1000MP, Alpha 78 on 10 and 20M only at KW; barefoot at 100W on 40. Good conditions. Good signals. Much fun in 2:12 hours. QSOs per band: 40: 20. 20: 42. 10:2. Thanks for all QSOs. 73, John, K4BAI.
Good fun, thanks for all who copied my QRP signal.73, Steve K4JPN
FT-450 @50 Watts to NVIS dipole. Czech Army key.
Heard one station calling "N N M A WES" and another calling "C M A WES" ... is this something new?
Alternated between TenTec R4020 and ATS3-B. Thanks to the 25 folks that dug out my signal. Y'all did the hard work.
The scheme was really cool. But I only got to operate about 30 minutes demonstrating ham radio to visiting relatives. See you next time.
One of these days I'm gonna have enough time to work a WHOLE WES
Tough to find all the Bonus States. Missed NE and NV. Spelled out the Bonus words OK.
Always a fun gathering. My SKCC "memory" keyer isn't always as sharp as my regular (N1MM) macros so I apologize for my 'occasional' slip-ups when sending the exchange, or even my own name hi hi! Jeez, once again, I find myself using my straight key, and my PROPERLY adjusted two vintage bugs and have made QSOs using them post-WES!
The fun never ends!!
Sick with the flue but took a few minutes Sunday morning to get on the air. 73's to all
Rick / K7CHS
Ran 10W for most of the contest. Last contact
was with KE0ER Carl who really wasn't in the contest. He was running 3 watts and an indoor antenna. Great job Carl.
73 de Ken
Gotta get me some filters otherwise fun weekend ..
Missed PA, IA, NE, WY for the LH sweep, but got plenty of call signs to spell out Lincoln Highway. Very good idea, too bad I had the grandkids over, or I would have spent more time looking. I hope all the new members and those working towards their C/T/S had as much fun as I did. Bands were good. I was trying to fill in my WAS for 10m, and 15m, but still have lots of states to go for straight key WAS on those bands. 73 to all, and I hope I can make the next one.
Only had an hour and 20 minutes total air time due to family events to deal with. Managed to make a few good runs of QSOs in he time I had. Worked a few on 10 and 15 and a bunch on 40 and 20M. Fun !
Not a lot of time to work this WES. Too many other projects going on. Was able to spend a few hours on the radio and work some toward my S. Station this month was the Icom 735 and my 1943 Lightning Bug. See you all next month.
My local QRN sounded like a dentist's drill at times. Think I need to get out and do some detective work. Glad I could copy as many QRP stations as I did. Thanks again for another fun time. 73, Bill
Another fun event. I didn't have much operating time but got a few Q's in. I always look forward to this event. I hope to get more time in next month.
Condx were good, even though my noise level still hovers around S8-9 constantly. Fun time!
A dreary overcast day here in IL, what better way to spend it doing WES! Here, 20 meters carried the load. Excellent band conditions Sunday. Strong signals from everywhere. Great fun. 73 to all!
Well, I had a good time but not a lot of time. I worked some Saturday morning and Sunday morning. Sunday morning was by far the best. I got CZE, GER and POL in about 15 min. on 15 meters. My best QRP DX Wes for sure. Thanks to Vasek, Joerg and Joe for pulling me out of the noise. The 7410 and a dipole. I love this hobby! CU next month.
Too nice of a day to spend indoors. But it was fun. Did better than last month. K-2 @5w to G5RV up 35 feet. 72/73 Phil
This was my first SKCC WES. What a great time! It was unique in that not only did I convince WB2VUO to join SKCC, but I also worked my first 2 DX CW contacts after 27 years as a ham. Good to see everyone on the air and on the K3UK page...looking forward to the NEXT one!!!
Hi All, I decided to try a WES 5w QRP field day style from my yard (the joy of southern AZ in Feb - summer is our payback) I had a great time and was surprised by the results given the time I had to operate and the jury rigged vertical I used. My thanks to all of you who made the effort to work me, 73 Jim
Had 20 minutes to play but made a few contacts.
Combined WES and FYBO so it was an interesting outing.
My first sprint...what a blast!
This was a fun WES and the bands were pretty fair for the most parts. Good time and looking forward to the next one.
Enjoyed another great WES. Thanks to all our fine SKCC operators and organizers. I especially enjoyed the Lincoln Highway theme.
Managed to operate for nearly 12 hours before going QRT while spending the rest of the contest period in the National Radio Quiet Zone near Green Bank WV. Great fun though, and a good workout for my HOA restricted end fed wire camouflaged over my roof.
ANOTHER FUN WES. SEEMED LIKE LOTS OF NEW PLAYERS. NEVER FOUND THE ELUSIVE NEBRASKA THAT WOULD HAVE GIVEN ME A HIGHWAY STATES SWEEP. THANKS AGAIN TO THOSE WHO PUT THESE THINGS TOGETHER.
Had fun on my first sprint . Thanks to everyone for working me.Kenwood TS590 Dipole Navy Flame proof key
A good time this weekend. Couldn't cover the Lincoln Highway letters, fell two letters short. Thanks to all that worked me. 73.
I had fun working many old friends and many new ones. 73 to All.
Always fun! Glad that I was able to join in this weekend!
Crazy fun. Wish I could have been on all day.
Split my time between the WES and running QRP in the NRR ... choices, choices. Its all good. C U next time, 72/73
Primarily worked MNQP, but when making an SKCC contact added "mn es mnqp she" to my exchange. SHE stands for Sherburne county.
About four hours of S&P though I took a pause to work K1N early in the AM on Sunday. Fun as usual. See you next month.
Great Sprint! Neat Theme! Good Job! Good Job!
Lots of fun for the several hours of operating time I had this weekend. The bands seemed great Sunday. Fun WES after K3Y. Don KF7DS
Big wind storm took out most of my antennas, fortunately my 10M Inverted Vee still worked and 10M was open. It's always a challenge running QRP, sometimes more than others. 73/72 til next month.
Thanks everyone it was fun.
Thanks for the qso`s, mainly worked a few DX on 10 and 15m. The bands were in pretty good shape.
73 til the next time C ya in SKS Mark KI0I
A fun sprint. Ran the HT-32B SX-101A combo. 100W to an endfed.
Nice WES but limited time...into my first week of retirement, but had other obligations with upcoming trip with wife. Many thanks for all the contacts though. Hope to be back on the bands in mid-May. See you all then! 73, jack
Spent 2.5 hours goofing around, but I still had fun. I even picked up 4 more T's for my Tx6 application. Thanks everyone!
Drat - Missed "Lincoln Highway" by a single "H"! Nice to see all the newer members participating. Also great prop to Europe on 10 and 15 mtrs - nice to work EU Members I've not seen before. We're all getting better at finding ways to work around all the other contest QRM. See you next month!
I had a great time using my new 2015 Vibroplex Blue Racer Standard.
TNX, Enjoyed all the SKCC QSOs.
Only had a few minutes for the WES this month. But conditions were good, and there's always next month.
First time WES. K6III sent an email saying that IA would be popular and I felt it for a little while. I love me a straight key contest because I can copy the call signs (mostly)! Thanks to all for the fun.
Went to a hamfest on Saturday and then didn't feel very good for a while, but I did get on for a little bit and had a great time. See everyone on the next sprint. 73 Bill
Thanks to all who participated! I hope you didn't get drowsy on the drive. ;-)
N2OB is a new call for the Old Barney ARC and was first used in the WES. Centurion was achieved entirely during the WES period.
Thanks for a great event.
Just getting my station back to what it was after several years on the road for work. Very nice to be able to just jump back into the SKCC events and find them still a blast to do.
Been a while since I participated in a WES. Forgot how fun it was. Gave the old bug a good workout. Thanks for the Q's ! K3/100 & Wires in Trees -Joe
Missed all of Saturday, had a lot of fun on Sunday.
Got lucky on my 50th QSO to work K3YP for the Y in Highway ! Wooo Hooo ! :)
Fun as always. Thank you SKCC!
Great WES, as usual. I took the opportunity to improve on my "bug" fist. Many thanks to Ted, K8AQM and to Tony, W4FOA, for their guidance and advice on sending with a bug.
Thanks to all - Carl, N5XE
Started on 80, finished on 15...Scored well, good plan! Usual fun--73
Another busy weekend.....played when I could. Used the KX1 at 4 watts.
As always.....the WES was fun.
See everyone next month.......72/73
It was a pretty good WES, bands were hopping and most every call was answered. Thanks to everyone for working my huge 900mwatt station, KX3 was working great.
Oh MAN - What fun ! Special Thank You to EA5IIK / 12909 / Andy in ESP. GREAT 40 meter QSO with minimum antennas and only 100 watts on both ends ; first 2000+ mile DX with WES event, for me. Thanks Andy ! Thanks everyone else who participated in FEB 2015 WES.
73 from Ohio,
SK - CC # 10741-T
HELLO AGN, SAME OLD STUFF, ARGO SIX,G5RV,5WTS. HAD FUN AGN, WITH THE HAMS RUNNING TOOOOO MUCH POWER ACCORDING TO THE FCC REG. AS ONLY POWER NEEDED DUH..... IT IS FCC 97-313 , ON PAGE 42 OF THE PART 97 RULES AND REGULATIONS.. THINK ABOUT IT GUYS... 73, CU IN MARCH WES.... DAVE...N9ZXL.73..
Managed 5 hours on Saturday and 6.5 hours on Sunday, both in afternoon. The bulk of my activity was on 20M and 15M, both of which were in good shape. Because I did not work in the late evening, did not try 80M (except to sneak down and work F5DE Sunday so I could give him 3 bands) Missed Nebraska for the sweep.
This was a fun WES. Was able to spend a little more time than usual. Heard and worked more new stations than usual, plus more DX. Was able to work 9 of the bonus states and spell out Lincoln Highway. Tnx everyone for your participation.
Good to get back to working in the WES. Great fun! 20m was the money band for me this time around.
What a great way to spend a winter weekend! Thanks to everyone who called me. 73, Glen, NK1N
I put it off all weekend then forced NO8C to listen to my code one more time at the last minute so I could participate in my first WES.
Great time -thanks to the hams who organized the event. I was able to work a few hours each day . I never expected to get all the letters to spell Lincoln Highway. Sunday I still needed 2 i's. Then I heard K6iii calling CQ on 15 meters. Tnx Jerry
Thanks to all and hope to see you in this months upcoming SKS. Best 73's from Miller City, Ohio de NO8C
Always fine to work with QRP! Thanks VE4MR for Manitoba and W7FST for Nevada=new states.I heard on 21051 HP2SM Santiago but he doesn't copy me.
Worked fom my summer house-a little bit cold hi.Used always swedish straight keys.Only for 15 m my antenna is good , sorry. Hear u in next WES
That was my first WES, and I found it very enjoyable. Hope to work more members next time.
Best fun yet. And I qualified to apply for my T with the QSOs I made in the WES.
Fun WES! Good theme. Busy busy bands. Thx to all worked.
Conditions were difficult (QSB and QRM) but as always a pleasure to make contacts with SKCC members using a straight key. Rig: ICOM 703+ @ 5W to vertical wire at 43 Ft. Key: Kleine Handtaste (Scheunemann).
Not my best score but always a pleasure tnx to all.
Thanks for another fun Weekend Sprint. 73 - Brian
VE5DC #4440 JERRY
Used my HB1B again seeking WAS- no new ones this month
but lots of fun. Thanks for the sprints!! CUL
First SKCC event! Had a lot of fun and am looking forward to working more SKCC events!
This was the second WES for our ARES group. As the station is tested we hope to be more active in SKCC events.
The key was donated to the station by Rick k0kex
Never did see a station on from IN,NE or NV. Had a good timeTen Tec Jupiter @ 100 watts, 160meter loop up 25ft and "Cootie" key
had fun not enough time
Without K0LUW Nebraska was difficult, make that impossible
Only got 4 bonus states. Lots of fun though. Thanks everyone.
With only 10 QSO's, I missed "Lincoln Highway" by 1 "Y". As usual, meet some "old" friends and made some new ones. Tnx to the organizers for another fun event.
Another fun WES. Thank you for the QSOs. Lots of activity on Saturday, but where'd everybody go Sunday until late afternoon?
That was fun. I'll have to set aside more time for it next month :-)
This has been the first WES in some time that I was able to spend more than an hour or two on. I forget to send in my log for the last two - shame on me!
The bands were in decent shape for a change and there was a LOT of SKCC activity. I worked all 14 states on the L Hwy and was able to spell it out with my first 36 Q's. I usually don't get WV (my state) so thanks to Randy KA8MNP for that. I found IA (N0FN) on late Sat nite when I was switching back and forth from 80 & 40 when activity became very sparse. I used my WW2 German straight key along with a Vibroplex bug. Rig: K3 with a tribander and cf zepp antennas. 73 de WV
It was great to work so many new members, many old friends and a number of QRP stations. Thanks for the contacts - TOm
Worked a few mobile contacts on Saturday. Rest were at home station. Not many contacts made this time, the weather was so nice on Sunday, felt good to take advantage of a warm day.
15 meters was good for me Saturday afternoon, Sunday not so, but 20 meters was good east of the Mississippi for my 5 watts. Worked 8 members with no letter, 6 C, 17 T, and and 13 Senators. Got 8 of the 14 Bonus states.
Another very good WES! Lots of FUN!
Great contest this WES. Good turn out. I didn't have a single "i" so missed out on the Lincoln Highway bonus points. Thanks to everyone I worked and everyone who worked to put on the WES.
Not much time this WES, but did manage to get on for a couple of hours.
Thanks sooooo much to all who listened carefully for those QRP signals.
Had a great time,
GREAT event-- Missed UT for all states on Lincoln Highway-- Gud operators in this..73/ED/W7GVE
I had a stroke during surgery this is only way I can keep the key when I am on the straight key other wise its on the floor.
I will never be any good with a straight key, but I still had fun.
THANK YOU !
Where have all the C's gone?
I cranked my Jupiter down to 5W just to see how I could do. I was well pleased with my QRP performance, although all the credit really goes to the ops with the good antennas, good receivers, and good ears! Thanks everyone for pulling my signals out of the cacophony. And a big thanks to the organizers of this always-fun event! I mainly used my straight key, but had a couple QSOs in which I employed my cootie. ~73~
Thanks to all that copied my QRP signal.
Ran 50 watts for this one with my Butternut HF9V (elevated), with exception of one contact at 5 watts (W4FOA with my IC-703). Mostly used my IC-7000 and my IC-7200. Big ole Kent Straight Key. Fun event as always.
Enjoyed the event. Only able to get 8 of the Lincoln Highway states but enjoyed every qso.
Elecraft KX3 & KXPA100 amplifier; Vibroplex Straight Key; G5RV (40M) and Vertical (20-10M).
Brief time - but lots of fun - as always!
73 - Andy, WA5RML
Great fun as usual...bands were up and down.
Many other contests going on this weekend.
Got a chance to go home, fired up the KX3, had fun, great band conditions on 15m. 73/72 Ray
Darn it, I had plenty of opportunity to work Dan, W9DLN on another band for the second 'L' to complete the Lincoln Highway. But I have traveled long stretches of it many times for real. See F5DE,Bernard's soapbox for our 5 band QSOs. A very enjoyable WES, about 6 times the QSOs I usually get in the WES. Thank you to the organizers, the contacts, and especially F5DE for the 5 bander. 73 to all.
This was my first time. Just joined SKCC last week. Had to work during weekend so did not have much free time. Next month will be different. Had a lot of fun though my straight key code was rusty.
Lots of fun, and good practice on the straight key.
Limited myself to QRP in order to test out how clean my shack is in regards yo my brand new pacemaker/defibrillator. So far, so good.
More than half of my contacts were with stations having SKCC numbers above 10000. Glad to see so many new members. Rig is Peaberry V2 with Hardrock-50 amplifier, running 30 Watts on 20 meters and 50 Watts on 40 meters. Antennas are 132' open wire fed doublet @ 15' for 40 meters, and a 20 meter dipole @ 20'. Thanks for the contacts, and see you in the next sprint. 73, Art
I was too sick to get on the air much but I had to at least make a contact or 2 to keep the streak alive! Naturally, on Monday I was fine... The station this weekend was the Flex 3000 at 5 watts into a 80m dipole at 30 feet. My key for this WES was a Czech military key. Thanks for those who put up with my puny weak QRP signal!
Greetings all. New member here trying his new ProPump Key and found the SKCC WES to be a blast! Thanks for patience with my fist. VY 73! Pete WH6LE
My first WES in a way while. Very fun and Mahalo to all for the QSOs. de WH7TT
Word games, little green boxes to fill...they are all addictive.
Never heard NE or IA, had to settle for 12 along the Lincoln Highway. Any coincidence the middle of the highway was missing?
Thanks to the organizers and all participants, this was fun. The bands even cooperated, for the most part.
Another fun event, wish condx were better for me..Looking forward to next month!!
Lots of activity this weekend on the bands. Very enjoyable sprint. I used my oldest radio, an Omni V, with my stealth dipole, The key was the Nye Viking Speed-X straight key. See you next month.
