It was again a very nice and familiar WES.
All nice signals until suddenly the band died.
73 until next WES

Had great fun but ran out of gas...

KB1USE Operated by: Geoff, 7038 from MA

Played on radio for 1 hour. Fried :-). Had lots of fun :-). Age 13 and I am enjoying
learning and doing CW. I need 87 QSOs to Centurion :-) 73 de Geoff

KB1OIQ Operated by: Andy, 6265T from MA

This was a fun WES and my most productive by far. I worked a lot of stations on 15m
today. I also spent some time elmering my 13 year old son Geoffrey KB1USE so he could get
his 3 QSOs (for which he was very excited!). I used my Speed-X key and the IC-746PRO.
See ya next time! 73 de Andy

KD2JC Operated by: Joe, 710T from NJ

What a great Sprint! Condx FB but wish 15 meters was open more. My J-38 worked
flawlessly. Guess that's why they were and still are so popular. Thanks to all that
worked me. 73: Joe

N8BB Operated by: Werner, 5433T from MI

Thanks to all that worked my 1 watt. Had fun with just a few hours on the air, too many
things going on to devote full attention. The 1 watt worked very well with some 599
reports, some 229 but it was all fun. QRP rocks

KBØETU Operated by: Phil, 4542T from AL

Lost the receiver - Will give me something to do this coming week. 72/73 to all. Phil

WB8SDA Operated by: Carmen, 2339 from OH

Fun weekend. Worked three sessions. The most time on the air of all my WES. Really a
good time. Heard Bert in France but we couldn't put it together. Why no pile up for
France? Thanks for the opportunity to work cw....73, Carmen..WB8SDA

N2JNZ Operated by: George, 2836T from NY

Many thanks for the contacts !!! Thanks to Urb , KP2/W2DEC for 15 and 20 meters. And also
HC6EP on 15 meters. Felt lousy here from this weeks chemo but still had fun !!! Rig here a
Flex 1500 , 5 watts to a ZeroFive 40 meter vertical and Vizkey Vertical Bug.

Station here .......

KW6G Operated by: Chas, 252 from CA

Great fun, except that conditions could be better. This is a great venue for practicing
with my Vibroplex Original Deluxe. Getting better all the time, but after a few hours of
use, you start noticing the fatigue setting in in the form of extra dots here and
there...Hope to CU all next month; or maybe next weekend for the ARRL DX test!

N3PDT Operated by: Doug, 6861C from MO

My first (and last) WES as a Centurion. Always a fun event. Good to see all the DX this
go 'round. Thanks to all and 73 -Doug N3PDT

W3RT Operated by: Red, 3237T from PA

Again, another great event for SKCC. Thanks to the personnel that make it all possible.
Thanks to the stations that pulled me in! Not able to put 100nto the event, but had a
blast with the small amount of time that I did operate. Used the Navy Flameproof for all
contacts; Kenwood TS 940 to the sloper for 40 and 80 and the beam for 20 meters. Can't
really use 15m here- bad birdie at 21.050 locally.
Lots of newer operators- good to see you all!

Looking for the next one...

W1PNS Operated by: Pete, 4853T from MA

Another fine WES you've gotten us into, Stanley! Nice to see so many DX stations active
during this one. The only continent not represented was Africa. Someone(s) could have, and
probably did, get close to a IARU WAC award this weekend!

NV9X Operated by: Jim, 1358T from IL

Gud WES. Fun. Tnx to my contacts. SRI to ones I could not hear. Tnx to KP2/W2DEC for

Had to help the daughter move this weekend so didn't spend much time on the bands. Bands
sounded pretty good too. Did get a couple of contact on 15M. Oh well, number of
contacts doesn't really matter, I always have a good time when I get to run with the SKCC
pack!!!

Yaesu FT-817nd @ 5 watts into delta loop @ 10 feet...Wow! been a long time since I have done
any operating and as long a time since I have taken on a sprint! Turned on the radio when I
saw the SFI was in the 90's to see what the bands were like and heard WP3C on 15 meters
calling CQ WES...could not miss trying to work Al's BIG 599 signal from P.R. - Had other
things going and could only make the one contact but was fun to get my feet wet again! Who
knows high SFI numbers and low a index numbers, maybe the sun is waking up again....72/73

KN3A Operated by: Scott, 595T from PA

I contest virtually every weekend in the winter - CW/RTTY/SSB. Since 2004 when I got back
into ham radio, I can say this was the best and most fun I've had in any of those contests
(not including Field Day). Every contest is an automatic 599 except this one. I was given
reports from 219 to 599, and gave reports the same, it's virtually impossible to find
another contest that you give and get the true signal reports. SKCC holds many traditions
that we're keeping alive, straight keys and true signal reports. It doesn't matter if
you're running 1KW or 1 watt, SKCC members are eager to listen for your callsign and want
to work you. This is an amazing group I joined in 2006 but just in the past month getting
active. I'm proud to say I've rediscovered SKCC and hope to remain active. Until recently,
I had about 30 QSO's total from January 2006 to January 2011. I got my "C" and "T" in 2
weeks and made a lot of friends in a short period of time since the 3rd week of January
2011. I never expected I'd work stations in 10 different countries, many on several bands.
I also worked 33 different states in less than 24 hours. Then having decent band
conditions on top of it all made for a great weekend. Thanks to everyone for the awesome
contest. I upload to LoTW and eQSL. I look forward to working you all again before, during
and after the next contests. Also, I used a bencher that was given to me by my good friend
K4QO(sk) in his memory this weekend. 73 - Scott KN3A 595T

Took a long break since my first WES in October. I made my goal of 20 or more QSOs.

K1NV Operated by: Jon, 2609T from NV

I don't usually have a chance to work the WES, but I got home around 2315Z and decided to
try a few QSO's on 20M. There seemed to be a lot of stateside activity and I managed a
few QSO's before the whistle blew at 2400Z. Tnx to all that called. I heard CO8TZ but he
didn't respond to the exchange. The same happened with KK7O(?). The band must have
dropped out on you guys, sorry.
It's never a sprint without Russ, K0LUW, in the log. W7GVE was there weakly, but copyable
although we are too close for good propagation on 20M.
See you all in the SKS in two weeks.

KA5VZG Operated by: Alan, 6264T from TN

I went QRP again (I think it may be addictive). My big treat was to work Urb, KP2/W2DEC,
on 15 and 20 meters. Then to work Epe,HC6EP, and our old friend Bert,F6HKA, on 15m was
especially nice. When Urb promised to work a bunch of SKCC members, he sure seemed to
deliver. Be interesting to see his stats. I was truly impressed. Every time I turned on
the radio, the "CW machine" was still pounding out QSO's. I had as much fun this WES as
ever. Couldn't devote much time to the WES because our 8" of snow (a lot for this part of
the world) finally melted. Temperatures were in the 50's so I had a lot of other demands
for my time.

W4KRN Operated by: Karen, 4495T from VA

Strong signals on 80 & 20m. 40m condx not quite as good. Worked a few new stations this
sprint. Urb KP2/W2DEC had the best signal on 40m. Another fun sprint.

7.114.5. Had a pile-up from 2057Z to 2220Z when the XYL called for dinner. Thanks to
Cecil, K5YQF/QRP in TX and Grove, KE4RUN/QRP in NC for "hanging in there". My 3rd. QSO

Always pressed for time... worked a few on 40 at the beginning of the WES. Had some free time on Sunday
afternoon for a "stationary mobile" QRP foray onto 20 meters. Loads of fun with no QRN. I even got
Bert in France and Urb at KP2 with my 3 watt signal. 20 meters was still hopping when I had to QRT and get
home. 73 to all. Peter

I stayed in search & pounce mode to pick off a few strong 20 meter signals in spite of the
local noise. Although I heard DL9YCS well enough for solid copy, my signal was no match

once a neighbor's plasma TV took over the band. 73 to all, and see you next month.

I hope to see many of you again for SKS night.

worked Bert, F6HKA, for first time on 40. Lots of high SKCC numbers in the group. Must
have been hit by a solar flare when propagation dipped two times on Sunday and then
rebounded. Solar flux exceeded 100, WES over the next couple of months should be a lot of

80 meters first and then 40 later Sat night. 20 most of day on Sunday after getting home
from church around noon. Back on 40 for a few more before eve church. I thought 20 was
kinda poor for most of the day. Lots of signals but down in strength. A lot of calling
with no answers. F6HKA Bert was booming in from France and I got a 569 with my 5 watt
signal from him. Worked KP2/W2DEC on 20 and 40. Got HC6EP on 40 later Sat eve. I switched
back and forth between the 2 bugs and spent a good bit of time using the Junker straight
key this time. I just got it permanently wired up and the contacts cleaned right before
0000Z on Sat eve. TT Omni 7 at 5 watts. Worked a lot of high number members including KM1G

NØLT Operated by: Johnkeller, 2964 from IA

Great fun.

Working Bert, F6HKA the first time (15 m) was huge, very exciting-QRP from IA. He was 59 + + into IA.
Was a little more calm the second time (20m).

QRP makes it seem like you're busting the biggest pileup ever. It's a rush!
You just don't know if your'e going to get there.

Also calling TJ (N9TJL) and having him come back to me was awesome. His SKCC NR is the next one after mine,
2965.

Also have Dave, (WA3SCM) 2968, in the log book. I am surrounded.

Could hear KP2, but many stations calling and after a few tries went on to other stations.

Many QRO stations at the beginning. Tough to compete with them and rightfully so. Later my 5 watts did a little
better.

Some familiar calls, always fun to hear and to work them. Some are the big guns.

Throughout, the skill and many times the patience of the Ops was impressive.

You're a class bunch and I'm proud to be a small part of it.

Maybe will have a "C" after 2964 in the next sprint. Getting very close:-D

GL to all.

Hello Sprinters, I was surprised at how many states a guy can work in such a short
time.QSOs with the Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico were kind of nice too as I usually don't
hear too many of them on 40 meters here.I managed to pick up an RI QSO that I need for
WAS.I heard one KL7 but he didn't hang around long enough; need one of those for WAS
too.I just joined in Jan.2011 & am having a lot of fun chatting with members.I'm still
trying to figure out how everything works though & have logged about 70 members since
joining.I was a ham from 1959-1966 & have been back on the air since August 2010 with the

K8WSN Operated by: Bill, 4986T from MI

80 meters was really rough copy here on Saturday evening due to strong QRN originating
from a local power line. It happens whenever it snows around here. The S meter was
stuck at 20 DB over S9 most of the time. I was amazed that a couple of QRP stations were
actually readable through all that racket. My apologies to those who I just couldn't
pull in. 3 hours of that was more than enough for my ears to put up with.

Conditions on Sunday afternoon were much more enjoyable for me on the higher bands.
Special TNX to the 7 SKCC members I worked on 15 meters. Although the band seemed to be
open, I didn't hear much WES activity there. Now that solar activity is on the increase,
please try calling CQ on 15 and 10 meters during our sprints, especially around the
middle part of the day. You may be pleasantly surprised with the results.

TNX to all and 73

Multipliers were tough as I had a direct connection to my neighbors in NY, NJ, and MA.

Thanks also to the banter at the K3UK Sked page, which enhances the experience
significantly. I noticed a young man of 13 years on the page, so perhaps some kids are
finding our hobby to be fun.

This was the first wes that I used a bug, picked up old vibroplex off of ebay and I am
just getting use to using it. Would like to have had more air time but as usual Sundays
are pretty full fo me but got a few hours in Sunday afternoon. Thanks to everybody who
came back to me and look forward to next one. God Bless to all.

K4XML Operated by: Mark, 7034T from VA

This was my third WES, and I enjoyed it very much. Conditions were pretty good most of the
time. It was great to hear Urb booming in from VI. Bert was also coming in very strong
from France. Had an incomplete contact with Ecuador, and was disappointed I couldn't hear
the Argentina station at all. In the last hour of the WES, I made Tribune. Thanks to all
the SKCC ops, always a pleasure to communicate with.

W7JZE Operated by: Bill, 6053 from CA

Well I got a slow start on this WES with family flying in from Phoenix for the weekend.
That’s OK :-) I still managed to get in a couple of hours Saturday night and again
Sunday late morning. Only on 80M Saturday night and only 20M Sunday early afternoon.
NO 40M THIS TIME. That’s weird. No CW sigs to be found Saturday night on 40M but a lot
of digital (RTTY?) was on 40M at that time. I managed to snag my first PA contact
during this WES (Thank you W3OKC) and my first ALASKA contact too! (Thank you WL7WH).
Also managed to contact, again, W7GVE, a regular WES contact for me (Thanks ED :-). I
enjoyed the 3 or 4 hours total I could spend. I also enjoyed all 7 contacts, all from
different states. I am very much looking forward to next month’s sprint in March.

TF3G Operated by: Gisli, 7664 from Iceland

Bad conditions but lot´s of fun.

VE3WMB Operated by: Michael, 120 from ON

Well I had hoped to operate for a few hours but family birthday parties and basement cleanup ate into that so I only
managed a single contact in this month's WES. - Michael VE3WMB

K2PAY Operated by: Jerry, 4304T from NY

My thanks to Dick, K2RFP for repairing my Windom that came down in the wind. Just in time
for the WES. All week before the Sprint, I heard and worked Urb, KP2/W2DEC, but was unable
to find him for the bonus points. Dick, the antenna is working fine as is your Sprint Log
program. Hope I did not out do you this Sprint. 73, Jerry

KF7EST Operated by: Allen, 6008 from WA

Only got a chance to work Ed W7GVE on Sat Night. Woke up Sunday planning to play for
awhile but my Power Supply had other ideas :-( All is well now - see you next time!

Nice WES. Strongest signal, and only contact was Urb, KP2/W2DEC at 10 0ver S9. Thanks Urb.
Great signal into NC and sounded like you were having a ball.

KP2/W2DEC Operated by: Urb, 6668T from Virgin Islands

It was a blast operating from a super station. Everyone should try it.

KBØKFX Operated by: Scott, 7429 from WI

Operated a couple of hours. I had my first ever "pileup" working about 8 stations in a row
after a CQ call. I just about had a mental meltdown, but getting a little comfortable with
multitasking. Straight key sprints and QRP are so much fun. It's my new found interest
after being ham 20 of my 33 years.

Was most enjoyable to help many with ND and rag chew a few too, Great going Group.

KF7KPL Operated by: Gil, 7226T from UT

I made a few contacts but was more concerned with getting computer back on line after
letting the smoke out of it earlier in the week. Only had time for a few contacts late in
the sprint. It is always great to make CW contact; sprint, contest, special event, rag-
chew or basic exchange. Thanks to all es 73 de Gil

Not much time on this WES but had fun for 30 minutes or so on 40 meters with the boat
anchor station. DX60b with about 40 watts on TX and a newly acquired Hammarlund HQ-110
for receive using manual t/r switching. Thanks to those who copied me. 73 Kieth

N9ODY Operated by: Greg, 1387 from WI

Well, it's been a while since I last worked WES, it was great to do it again. Got most of
my points Saturday night on 80 meters. Condx were very good. but on Sunday only 20M
produced any real activity here. Here in Wisconsin, we are still glowing from the great
Green Bay Packers victory in the Super Bowl and smarting from the 24 inches of snow in
the blizzard of Feb. 1st.
