The January 9, 2011 WES will occur during the month long K3Y anniversary celebration so there will be special rules for logging and counting QSOs involving K3Y stations.

K3Y station operators will give their SKCC number in the exchange. They may also give their home call sign. If they don't give their home call you can ask for it or use the SKCC number to look it up. Use that information along with the band information to determine if the QSO is a dupe or if it can be counted. Note that this allows you to work and count more than one K3Y/n on the same band provided they are with different stations as K3Y/n. If you are using the K2RFP sprint logger you should put the home call in the call sign edit box and put the K3Y/n info in the comment edit box. This will allow the sprint logger to correctly identify dupes and calculate your score correctly. You may have to devise some other logging scheme if you are using some other logging program.

If you are operating as K3Y during the sprint you can count your K3Y QSOs toward your score as you normally would for the sprint. In effect you will be doing double logging during the time you are acting as a K3Y operator; a log for WES and a log for K3Y. Just be careful when submitting your log to your K3Y regional coordinator that you only include the QSOs made during your scheduled time as K3Y.

There is no designated Special Member for this sprint.

First time I used my new Bencher RJ-1 key. Very disappointing. Base not heavy enough,
action not smooth at all, unable to send as fast as I can with the cheapie Ameco brass or
a J-38. The Bencher is way overpriced. It is difficult to solder the connections on the
bottom of the key. I don't recommend it for $115.00 a fair price would be $7.00. K0LWV.

Hello.
Thank you all for your call, congratulate qrp NE5DL for its fabulous with a nice QSO on 15
meters when the band was almost closed with qrp appears, congratulations Dave.
Thank you all for your patience.

for the WES but had some fun. Ran QRP again. I like it for WES. Thanks for the QSOs and

Tough going this time with the RTTY and NA Contests!
40 Meters was really crowded. Managed to work several K3Y/n stations this time.
Great contest. Hope to see everyone next month.

Ran QRP for this WES and had a blast. More successful than I imagined. Getting an HW-8
in shape to use for next WES so many more QRP contacts planned. Got a long way to go for
Centurion but QRP operating has certainly sparked the challenge to continue using CW
whether qrp or not. Thanks to all who tolerated my novice sending ability. Hopefully each
time you hear me in the future I'll get better and better.

Great to hear all the buzz on the different bands. Had first QSOs on 6, 10, 12, 15m with
this sprint.

K7TKT Operated by: Brian, 6695 from ID

Only had an hour to participate but I had a good time as always. 73, Brian

WB8ENE Operated by: Art, 3773T from OH

K3Y stations accounted for almost half of my contacts. Had limited time on the air due
to helping my XYL babysit our 2 month old granddaughter, but that was fun too. 73, and
see you in the next sprint.

KF7KPL Operated by: Gil, 7226 from UT

Thank you everyone for a great time. Second time around makes a little more senses to me.
I am very close to my C and WAS, you would think it would be a snap! No way, I will still
have to work to get a C and WAS. I am closer to WAS on 40 and 20 meters now. Still need
K3Y/1 and K3Y/2, got the rest including K3Y/KL7 and K3Y/KH6. 73 de Gil

Had a great weekend !!! 55 Qs in the NAQP and 33 in WES !!! Working the quirks out of the
Flex 1500 and my CW got better as I went along. Randy , KB4QQJ and Werner , N8BB had great
signals for very little power !!! Worked a lot of members who have gotten a letter yet !!!
Congrats to Danny , KJ5CC # 7476 being my highest number !!! Welcome Danny !!! But last
but not least by a long shot , worked my buddy Karen , W4KRN at the last minute !!!! Had a
great time with a great bunch of ops !!!!

New super station ..... :)

WA2JSG Operated by: Curt, 3018T from NJ

Nursing a bad cold at the moment, so just couldn't spend much time in the WES. I started
out as QRP and made my first contact with Dan W9DLN using 5 watts, but then decided to go
QRO in case there were some K3Y stations that I needed (esp Phil in AK..hi hi).
Better luck for me next time.

N2AUR Operated by: George, 5841T from NJ

I started out with great intentions to work the entire WES...then the Real World snuck up
behind me and took a big bite outta my butt hi. Still had fun working old friends and all
those new members (big welcome) and I got to shake down my refurbed Brown Bros. ST
straight key. 73 George N2AUR

N8BB Operated by: Werner, 5433T from MI

Only got one hour in and now I wish it were more. Had fun with 900mw, seemed like the
hardest one was with Phil K3Y/KL7, but he stayed with me through a toughie and got it done.
Randy KB4QQJ was probably the easiest, great ops on both of those. N2JNZ was as good as
ever, never missed a beat. Gosh, everybody was great and I do appreciate those operating
skills that makes these sprints/wes so special. I now have my Elecraft attenuator built
and it is sweet, dials down the power like silk, very nice. QRPp will be a factor in more
of these events, so much fun for so little. Take care my friends, 73es

WØSZV Operated by: Eldon, 4999T from MO

very busy day with all the contests going on. but it was fun

WB8SDA Operated by: Carmen, 2339 from OH

My goal was to only work 20mtrs but the band went dead in the last two yours so I only
parked there for little over 1/2 hour, then moved to 75mtrs. There I worked 3 stations,
one being K3Y/9 out of WI. Thanks for the persistence to my three QSO's for they probably
didn't know I was QRP. Always a nice event... See you later in the month..73 Carmen

K6CSL Operated by: Bert, 4486 from CA

I only got to get into the WES for the last 2 hours, due to other commitments. I found
Stu, W0DE in MO on 15M, the other 4 were on 20M which seemed to be in great shape. Bert,

K1PUB Operated by: Chas, 4101T from MA

Operated WES a total of four hours as K3Y/1 so my submitted score is based only on that.
Wish I could rack up QSOs at that rate when operating under my own call.....it was fun!
Worked several newly-minted members, including NW2K (7330), FG8AR (7386), KAG (7445) and
AF4AT (7471). Welcome to SKCC!

And wouldn't you know..... the line over the tree branch holding my 5/8 wavelength
vertical for 20 M broke sometime Saturday during the day, and the antenna came down. Too
bad because it worked lots better than my Zepp on 20M. Oh well.....

Happy New year to all and CUL.

WA5VQM Operated by: Mark, 58T from TX

Very little time to participate this month. Why is there always a
RTTY contest during WES? Keys: my old J-38 from my novice
days and a 50-year-old Vibroplex. Ran Drake twins, Viking
Ranger, and even worked Phil K3Y/KL7 with an old Galaxy 5 and
a hamstick.

73 to all.

W3NP Operated by: Dave, 3182T from WV

Didn't get quite as much on the air time on as I usually do since I spent a fair amount of
time on as a K3Y/8 op this past week and I needed to keep the XYL happy and spend some
time with her, but still had fun and my arm hasn't given out yet. After running 80 to 95
watts all week with K3Y I had to work a lot harder running QRP at 4.5 watts. I redid my
closet QRP station and put the new Omni VII in with some better shelves and more room for
the keys, etc. I used my Vibroplex Original Presentation, a Vibroplex Champion, and a Nye
Master Key for the event. I didn't think there was as much activity as usual - just didn't
hear as many stations on and condx were not the greatest. And then there was the seemingly
ever present RTTY noise and the NA thing that I hear alot. No, I don't like contests and
that is why I enjoy the SKCC events that don't tie up the bands for everyone else but yet
still affords a friendly get together. Hope to work a lot more of you this month. 73

N3EIN Operated by: Matt, 6742T from PA

I liked the increased level of complexity that K3Y added to this WES, although keeping
track of "who's who" on paper became an issue....time to consider the Sprint Logger I
guess. 80 meters was a refuge from the RTTY contest last night - very unpleasant, to my
ears at least. 15 meters opened around 1600Z in PA to TX for a number of QSO's and 20
meters was strong all day. Thanks to all the K3Y station operators for helping make this a
really enjoyable event and to members for being such a great group.

A great WES this weekend. 20M and 80M were especially active for me. Worked AK for first
time.

WA1AR Operated by: Alan, 4079T from MA

This was a mixed bag weekend, some CQs, some H&P, and some searching for K3Y/KL/HI, did
not get them. 40M seemed noisy and 15M opened up a bit. There was some football time
mixed in there as usual and some snow blowing, not usual. All in all a busy weekend.

Good WES here in Upstate SC ... 20M in good shape. Thank goodness for the 40M "Novice

FT1000MP, Alpha 78, 1 KW, TH6DXX, dipole, zepp, inverted vee. Some QSOs on 80, 40, 20,
and 15. No signals heard on 10 and didn't try 6 or 160. Band conditions were pretty
good. Use of the frequencies between 7100 and 7125 kHz worked very well due to the RTTY
contest on the lower portion of the band. Nice to work a lot of DX: DL, G, FG, VK on 20
and F5DE on 40. All DX stations were SKCC members. Happy New Year to all. Thanks for
the QSOs. In case the station who refused to work me on 80 after we had an earlier QSO
on 20 reads this, the rules permit QSOs with the same station on any other bands. These
are therefore not "dupe" QSOs no matter what your "SKCC logger" says. The mults count
only once per contest, not per band, and the bonus points count only the first time you
work the station. It is a little frustrating missing a QSO because someone doesn't
understand the rules and won't listen to others who know. Hope you get it right before
the next SKCC sprint or contest. 73, John, K4BAI.

AF4AT Operated by: Jim, 7471 from NC

This was my first sprint or contest or qso party of any type. It was enjoyable but
confusing. My straight key sending must be improving as at least 21 hams could copy it.

Not much fun with noisy (QRN) bands and the few sigs I did hear were quite weak. Thus a
low QSO count this time. Hopefully next month is better.

KL8DX Operated by: Phil, 3800T from AK

It was a pleasure to participate in this WES as K3Y/KL7. Started off at 1900z and had a
few contacts on 15 meters! Finally went to 20 meters and the struggle began. The solar
wind has been hanging around 600 km/sec so not much being heard up here this weekend. The
only plus side to geomagnetic storms is we get to view the Aurora! The skies have been
clear so it has been a good weekend for that. With that said, it was rough going and the
East Coast opening I was hoping for never appeared. It was much harder pulling out QRP
stations but I'm always willing to try (being a QRP operator myself). Finally started
hearing some into Ohio, Michigan and a bit beyond right around the end of the WES so glad
Paul and Randy were on hand to extend my time so I could pick up a few more after the
contest. Even thought I only got half the contacts I was hoping for, it was still fun!
Thanks for the QSO's!! Phil-KL8DX

Lots of contest to compete with. I found, after the contest, that the K3Y/? contacts are
handled differently when submitting the log. Should have done some reading! Always new
calls/SN each contest. I am told I became a Tribune member during the contest. No official
notice as yet, however.

It was fun......de Vern W9HLY

Thanks for a great WES event. I appreciate everyone taking time out of their weekends for
the event. Can't wait until next month.

I found this WES to be a challenge because of all the RTTY & the NA 'test. Plus, 20 meters
didn't really come alive until about 11 am California time. I was happy, though, that 8 of
my Q's were with K3Y stations.

Had a great time. Started off like gangbusters on 80m Saturday nite, but things got
crowded very quickly. Switched to upper end of 40m for most of the evening. The
highlight of this event was picking up SD (NR5A). Also had QSOs on 6, 12, 15, 17, 20, 40
and 80m thanks to W4CJV. My first CW qso on 6m and the most bands I have ever worked in a
WES. Looking forward to the next event, and the rest of the month with K3Y.

Noisy conditions especially at the start with all the RTTY contesters. Pulled the plug way before midnite Saturday. Used
my K4VIZ cootie key for the whole contest, much less tiring than the straight key. Spent most of Sunday afternoon on
20m. Was fun contacting many of the new members like KD8JHY #7369, NZ1D #7147, KI5MS #7280, W0DE #7400,

K5IZO Operated by: John, 1507C from TX

I have a key collection of about 80 keys. I try to make at least 1 Q with each key to
force me to get each in some sort of working order. I used 10 "new" keys this
time. "twas fun!

NEØS Operated by: Mark, 6585T from MO

What a lot of fun and frustration all at the same time!GReat to hear and work so many
stations both new and well known. Sorry for the missed stations as I had the 350hz filter
in use to fight all the QRM.Sure was busy, heard cw in the fone portions too!Well thanks
to all who made me the hunted as a K3Y op .sure enjoy making Q`s as an event station
although it does make for some different logkeeping! It seemed like all the overcrowding
of the band space may have kept some folks away -still a good bunch of people took part.
Well, hope to hear big crowds of brass pounders in the nextfew weeks as we celebrate 5
years of SKCC!Can you believe how fast the membership is growing?\hard to keep the
database updated!Super! Thanks again and 73 from MO

Thanks to all the K3Y operators. Worked K3Y/0, thanks Mark NE0S. Heard other K3Y
stations, including K3Y/KL7 from AK with a 559 signal, but couldn't make myself heard to
him. Happy New Year and 73.

NG7Z Operated by: Paul, 802T from WA

Thanks for all the contacts. Had a great time. Sure was hoping more ops would have taken
advantage of 15 meters. It was open Sunday. 73 Paul NG7Z

N5RKD Operated by: Bill, 7176T from NM

Trying to compete against RTTY Round-up on 40 and 20m on Saturday was just plain
miserable. Gave up and came back to fight again on Sunday. Had a nice run on 15m early
afternoon. Thank you all for the contacts. Bill / N5RKD

W9DLN Operated by: Dan, 3635T from WI

Oops, I miscounted. Had one too many QSOs. Thanks again everyone for all the contacts.

Special thanks to K3UK and K2RFP. Couldn't have this much fun without you guys.

Dan, W9DLN aka K3Y/9

NV9X Operated by: Jim, 1558T from IL

NAQP tired me out. For WES, my get up and go, got up and left. Watching NFL play-offs also.
Still had nice DX contacts and new ones. Nice to work fellow local club member K9FO.
Hopefully will be more alert next month. Still a fun time, as always. TU SKCC.

mtrs not a great score but collected some new T's and had fun doing it. Thanks to all

I don,t know what happened to this WES contest, I was on the Air for a total of 2 3/4 hr
on 40, never made a single contact, nor did I hear a single station calling "CQ WES". Was
it canceled? I heard some station calling cq test!------- what test?? I called a few,
----they didn't hear me, was there more than one contest going on? I must really try and
do better. See you next time ------- I hope. HEE HEE Brion

KW6G Operated by: Chas, 252 from CA

Band Conditions were poor here this weekend, but managed to work 16 stations with a casual
approach. A lot of fun. Getting much better with sending with my Vibroplex Original
Deluxe. Never even touched the straight key. Got a lot of practice during last weekend's
SKN event.

Too bad we had two big contests running this weekend. I think that competed with our venue,
but it was still a lot of fun.

WES was great. It would have been better if the RTTY & NA were not all over 7050Khz and
7055 Khz. I did have a great time see you next Month Dave W0YZZ 5519T

ANOTHER FUN ONE!

GØRDO Operated by: John, 2133T from England

10 QSO's and every one great fun. I was surprised at how few sigs were heared from here
in the S/W of England. My MA6V worked well on 14MHz, but my 50ft of coax up 10ft, in an L
shape, with the braid strapped to the centre, was poor on 80m / 40m and very noisy. No
room here for a decent long wire or dipole. 73

Big (6.5" x 3.5") mystery key wired up & working. Its Great !

KD2JC Operated by: Joe, 710T from NJ

Another FB sprint. Got started late. Most Qs Sunday morning/afternoon. Thanks to all that
worked me. 73

KKØI Operated by: Jack, 2370T from WI

Thanks for a great time folks, even though the lower bands were either noisy with the
contests or with line noise. I operated part of the event as K3Y/9 and used my K4VIZ
Cootie key. I managed to catch a few on those bands other than 80 and 40 meters I
generally work. Thanks to all who contacted me...another fun event! 73, jack, KK0I/K3Y/9

F5DE Operated by: Bernard, 6247T from France

I was nice to find a few hours to participate in the first WES of the year !
In France we have now the permit to go above 7.100 and I have a new transceiver ready for
that.
Thus, even my power was low (50 watts) and my old GP antenna was not well adapted for
these frequencies, I have made my first QSOs in this part of the 40 m band because too
much RTTY QRM on the lower part of it. The antenna tuner helped very well.
I am ready now to go around 7.110/7.120 and I hope to meet more SKCC friends on 40 m.
Sorry for those stations I heard too weakly to made a QSO !
HNY to all of you SKCC friends and I hope to meet you in next event.
Awaiting for that, I try to be active quite every night from 21:00 UTC to 23:00 UTC,
see you there with a great pleasure !
73 QRO, Bernard.

highlight. Happy new year to all. Ant long wire @ 55 watts rig ic 7000. cu next

KBØETU Operated by: Phil, 4542C from AL

Band conditions were really poor Saturday evening and early Sunday morning. With the
RTTY'ers and the normal QRM, it was tough to hear over the noise. Still, good sprint
overall. Used a G5RV up 35 feet instead of my normal dipole up 15 feet. Normally use
5 watts, but it was turned down to 4 watts this time. Thanks to all. 72/73 Phill

WB5NHH Operated by: David, 5001 from LA

First time to participate, 40 meters was a killer with rtty and noise but made all my
contacts mainly on 7055khz. My ts870 proved itself. W7GVE told me he wrked 213 stations
in a previous sprint but not one from la. Ed I am glad that we made a contact and was
able for you to work a La station during this sprint, hope many more.

KA5VZG Operated by: Alan, 6264T from TN

Did this one QRP after an encouraging QRP sweep on K3Y's, including /KL7 and /KH6. Lots of
fun as always.

WS9E Operated by: Joe, 3859 from WI

Happy New Year to all! My Omni 5 turns 21 years old this year so, to celebrate,I used it
and my Speed-X key in the Sprint. The radio still works pretty well. I love the analog
audio peak filter. I wish the newer radios still had that feature.
Lots of RTTY signal on the bands, especially on 40, where most of the Sprint action was
up in the old novice band. Lots of Tribunes and no Centurians this time. Had to pull the
plug early on Sunday to cheer the Packers on to victory. See you next time.

KA1XC Operated by: John, 5188T from MA

This is the last WES from the present QTH……we just bought a house and I'm in the process
of dismantling and moving the shack. Why Oh Why did I collect so much boat anchor gear?,
I literally have a ton of stuff, groan. Took time out at the end to make a few QSO's on
80M, the band was jumping with sigs, thanks especially to the K3Y ops.

Good bye good old multiband dipole in the landlords back yard…....Hello new antenna farm
out in the woods, WooHoo!

73 & HNY to all and CU all soon from the new QTH !

WB5UAA Operated by: Guy, 6711 from TX

Boy, everything went wrong for me this time around. 20M died for me right at 0000Z, 40M
SKCC frequencies were completely blanked out for me by the RTTYers, and 80M was almost
useless because of noise from lightening nearby and the NA QSO party folks. Then, snow
and ice raised my SWR above 3:1. It's got to go better next time around. Still enjoyed
what few QSOs I made this time around. I'm about a dozen QSOs short for my "C" -- 73
all!

KØIVK Operated by: Joe, 1436T from MO

Missouri was well represented in this sprint, so I wanted to add one more. I only
operated a few hours on 15M and 20. ARRL RTTY Test and NA QSO party took up the whole 40M
band & I didn't want to hunt a clear spot!

W1EJ Operated by: Ed, 1594T from CA

The sprint was fun but a sunny day intervened so I cut it short.

Happy New Year to all.
Thank you to those that keep track of the data that keeps these Srpints Fun.
Also thank you to all that helped made this such a great WES.
I am amazed at:
1. How many New York stations that worked me this month. 10/77
2. How many "T's" were on this month. 37/77
3. How many "C's" 5/77
I am also glad to see so many new members.

WAØYEI Operated by: Russ, 6300T from TX

Boy were the bands ever strange. Were up and down like a yo-yo on occasion here, and boy
all of the contesters that were on sure made it tough! Must be on the way up though
because I made 17 contacts on 15M, which included EA3NO, ZL2BLQ and KL8DX. Didn't make
as many contacts this WES but as usual had a great time. Even captured a few K3Y/#
stations for the log.

Thanks everyone for the contacts and have a Happy New Year!!!

A great way to start the new year, I enjoy all the comments and the various pictures the
members share. Even with the RTTY & NA-QP it was a great WES for me. The fact that the
SKCC is now over 7500 members, I reflect how much I have enjoyed my association since
joining in January 2009. Welcome to all the new folks and thank you to all that have made
it so much fun....looking forward to many more....73 Rick

Sorry folks - not my best effort, but was distracted by flood conditions. Who would have
thought one could experience a tsunami at the top of a mountain range!

KB4QQJ Operated by: Randy, 3508T from NC

Bands were in great shape this time and I had most of the weekend to play! I heard a lot
of new and high numbers. Finally found Bill, NT9K and George, N2JNZ again! I missed them
last few times. Great to hear another milliwatter out there too, Thanks Werner, N8BB!
I ran the ATS3-b for most of the sprint at 1 watt into a PAR 10/20/40 EndFedz. For 80 and
160 I used the old standby doublet at 85 feet. Worked Alaska, England, Germany, France,
Spain and Serbia but couldn't find a Canada to save me! Randy, K2VT in NJ was the
strongest station peaking at 50 over. I think everybody was 599. Now I need PH6SKCC for a
complete sweep. I have until January 28 to work you Jan. Great sprint and I'm looking
forward to working more of those new numbers. 73 for now,
