N1LU Operated by: Don, 2252T from TN

This was my first chance to play radio from my new QTH in TN. I used used the metal rain
gutters for an antenna and a metal fence for a counterpoise. The rig was an FT-817 with a
low battery. Only had time to do the sprint for a little while. Good to know the gutters
will get me by until I get something more permanent up.

EA3NO Operated by: Lluis, 6653T from Spain

Hello ...
Today I could not be a long time, had very poor conditions in 20 mts. Wish everyone a
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

KØLWV Operated by: Larry, 3571 from MO

My rig: IC 718, 100 Watts. Antennas. Small 40 mtr vee beam, 133 ft per leg up 40 ft. and
a 20 mtr wire ground plane in a tree with 2 radials.

Tnx you very much for the contest. Very cold here in Missouri.

K2OGT Operated by: Bob, 5266C from NY

fun but 20was out workeddx on 40 as only band open

IK2SON Operated by: Tony, 5486T from Italy

Take this opportunity to make merry christmas and happy new year of good health and good
things together with your families
Tony 73 all

KDØV Operated by: Merlin, 1243T from MN

This was a good sprint. A good way to kill a very cold afternoon in Minnesota.

K6HTN Operated by: Kate, 5405 from CA

It's amazing how much easier it is when you have some fluency with CW! All the work is
beginning to pay off. The shocker was when LW3EX (Argentina) answered my little signal! I
was sure I had his call sign wrong & kept trying to figure out what I was getting wrong ...
this was on 15 meters, too, where I'm not used to finding much action!

N5XE Operated by: Carl, 6307C from OK

Didn't have much time for WES this month - too many family obligations. However, had
lots of fun anyway. I am slowly getting the hang of my Vibroplex Original Deluxe bug.
Sure takes lots of practice. Thanks to everyone who suffered through my bug fist and my
weak QRP signal. 73 to all and Merry Christmas - from Carl, N5XE, Sulphur, Oklahoma.

W4FOA Operated by: Tony, 641T from GA

Lots of fun. Congrats to all for the continued improvement in operating skills. Several
good QRP signals. Great to see 80 meters getting hotter and hotter! Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year to all!
Tony, W4FOA

KD2JC Operated by: Joe, 710T from NJ

Another well-attended WES. 40 meters weak here Saturday evening. 80 played good. Very
enjoyable contest. Thanks to all that worked me. 73 and Happy Holidays.

W7SRM Operated by: Steve, 6836T from OR

First time I used Sprint Logger. What a nice way to work the Sprint. 73 Steve

KK6AW Operated by: Kelsey, 2806T from CA

As usual, my time was limited for the WES but I managed to get a few. Hope to actually
work a full WES someday. Merry Christmas and Happy new year.
KK6AW Kelsey

My attempt at a cootie

GØRDO Operated by: John, 2133T from England

I enjoyed this WES greatly. Mainly 'cos I used 3 different morse keys, and also had a
brand new radio to play with - a Yaesu FT-2000.
In the festive spirit i challenge all to identify "We Three Keys" HI

We Three Keys

NØJL Operated by: Jim, 2079T from IA

Worked ZS, missed EA. Oh, well. Had a lot of fun. Hope ZS uses LOTW!

K8MEG Operated by: Rich, 4637T from MI

Used my TenTec Century 21 on 40M CW. Signals sound so much better in wide bandpass! So
does the QRM. Merry Christmas.

W3RT Operated by: Red, 3237T from PA

Nice way to spend a few hours on the radio! Great conditions, great signals, and lots of
new numbers- good to see the Club growing like it has been. Still not able to "sit in
the chair" for a long time, tho...
Rig: TS 940 by Knwd; 85 watts to a sloper on 40 and 80m, and the tribander for 20m.
Straight key was the ol' standby- the Navy Flameproof. Did use the Bug for a few
contacts, to be honest, tho'!

Best 73 from Red, W3RT in PA, SKCC #3237T

WA2JSG Operated by: Curt, 3018T from NJ

I cheated on SKCC! Yup, I admit, I spent a few hours Sunday morning on the ARRL 10m
Contest (CW) before going to the WES... sorry. (hi hi). In any case, nice WES, as always.
Thanks to the 22 stations that copied my 'lil QRP station.
Icom IC-7000 turned down to 5 watts, antenna Butternut vertical (elevated). Bencher
Straight Key. Merry Christmas to all!

WIØS Operated by: Kieth, 2048T from MN

NØUMP Operated by: Bill, 659T from MO

Didn't do as good as I should have, but I still had a great time. Man it is really cold
in here. I thought I was operating freeze your keys. Thanks to all who put these together
and to those who participated. It was good to see all my good friends and some new ones

Fun, as always. Bands noisy - as always hi. But, I love it so I keep coming back (The guys

Used the Heath DX20 and Drake 2B for all 14 80M QSOs. The antenna was open wire line to a
130 ft. dipole and about 45 watts out. It was hard to remember to switch the antenna from
transmit to receive. That is the little box on the receiver. The 2B was my side tone and
the 2B has a great AGC to allow that to work so well. For the balance I used the Icom
756P3 and a G5RV.

Another WES with poor band condx, so spent more time on 10m where I would up with three
times the QSO count than the WES. Tnx to Bill K6KQV for the sweep working 7 bands, 160-80-
40-20-15-10-6, more than half my WES conacts! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

I forgot I had my power set to 1 watt for the first contact so I just left it there and
had a wonderful time. I had UX1AA call me and was pleased to work him at 1 watt on 40
meters, really makes you feel good about qrp. Operated for the last 5 hours and really
enjoyed the time with my friends. Weather was nasty outside so it was a good way to spend
the day.
Thanks to all that worked my 1 watts power station.

Bands were in pretty good shape and lots of fun. The highlight was working VK4TJ on 3
bands, with 10m for a new band. I missed working lots of old friends, but got to meet
several new ones this time. Even had a nice sub 5wpm chat with a beginner. I have just as
much fun going slow as I do fast! The fastest QSO was with Walt LW3EX on 15m, Walt was
really cooking. I heard lots of great fists, no way to pick just one as best. The WES is
getting to be a big time event, So cool! Can't wait until SKN and K3Y.
Until next time, Thanks Everyone 73! Bill NT9K..

pleasure to listen to and the bug operators are getting better :) Thanks to all for the fun and especially to those Night

Yaesu FT817 @ 1 watt/ 80 meter Dipole - This was real hard trying to work the WES and the
10 meter contest at the same time, Didnt get to spend as much time in the WES as I would
have liked but had fun anyway...Apologies to Ed W7GVE, I forgot my T a couple of times in my
number exchange and at 1 watt I know he was having trouble hearing me...Sorry Ed! A big tnx
to all 15 of my contacts, Was great working Werner N8BB both of us at 1 watt for an exciting
2x QRP QSO! 40 lately has been like someone through the off switch but gratefully Sunday
afternoon had some big signals there...actually worked 2 C's this sprint...they are a rare

80m looked like the band of choice at 0000z. It was quiet with good signals, so I stayed
there Saturday night, working a good mix of stations like Phil-K5OGX in Arkansas and my
SKCC high number op (nr 7255) Gene-NY3C in Delaware. The Antique Wireless ops sounded good
and I worked a few for fun. They can do quite a bit of damage with 10 watts! Wind and rain
Sunday morning so I waited until 1500z working some big signals like Ed-W7GVE on 20m after
missing him last contest and finally got New Mexico chatting with Bill-N5RKD. 15m was
alive briefly at 1700z and I worked Walt-LW3EX and that is always fun. 15m closed for me
so I spent a rainy day (not snow thankfully) on 40m and a few QSO's on 20m working SKCC
low number op (213) Richard-NA0L. Thanks Dave-KM4DB for New Hampshire and making an even
50 and then Don-N8AMM for a "just under the wire" with a second band on 80m at 2356Z.

Hello to all...

I only had a couple of hours to dedicate to the WES'ites this weekend, but it was a good
time just the same. Many thanks to all the QRP'ers who searched me out to work 2 x QRP
QSO's. I was running a Ten-Tec 516 at 5w into a newly acquired 40m Par End Fedz at 60 feet
with a 1952 Vibroplex Blue Racer set at about 15wpm. I had 39 QSO's over about 3 hours
total time...and here's the best part...except for one contact at 7.119, I was on 7.112
the whole time. Thanks to you all... 72/73

WES: a great thing to do on a snowy, windswept, midwest winter day. I was hoping to work
some SKCC on ten meters. There was plenty of cw on ten for the ARRL 10 meter contest. I
worked 13 in that contest with all but 1 in Florida. However, could not scrape up a SKCC
contact there. 80,40 and 20 were the active bands here in Blue Island, IL. Thanks to all
who participated ... it is fun as always. Holiday greetings to all

Very happy to have worked Stu, W0DE (non member) the father of Mark, NE0S. Am anxious
for his SKCC number as soon as he gets one. Welcome to the fun, Stu.
Antennas were blowing around in the high winds we had in this part of the country. The

Great WES everyone! Thanks for all the contacts. Since W5ZR raised the bar last month I
really had to pound on this one. Nice to see DE on the Sked Page almost the whole
event. Thanks NY3C! Also got IA and OR. Those have been tough for me to get lately.
Lots of DX on in the morning too. Best DX was probably ZS6JBJ.

WX here was just plain nasty. Snowing and very windy most of the day. Think I had a
tower bolt fail because the 50 footer is really swaying. Had a rope fail on the antenna
which took a few minutes to fix. SWR was going nuts on 40 because the wires were
touching together. Otherwise my "dummy load" antenna played pretty well.

Thanks once again to all of you who made my weekend so enjoyable. Very special thanks to
K2RFP and K3UK. Couldn't do it without you guys. 73 all and see you in K3Y if not
sooner. Dan, W9DLN

Not a world-beating score, I'm sure, but you'd have to admit - working Viet Nam SKCC -

was THE BAND on Saturday eve and 20 on Sunday afternoon. Made a few on 160 Sat nite. 40
never was that great at any time but did have a few nice Qso's on both portions of the

Another fine Weekend Sprint in the log. I only got to play about three hours but had a
great time as usual. DX was ruling the bands in NC! I worked France x2 Spain, Argentina
and two provinces I needed for the Maple Leaf award in Canada. Then a very pleasant
surprise was Bob, WL7WH!!
Haven't worked him in a while. When I started 20 was really good so I just stayed with it.
Later worked a few 40's and then finished on 80 with Werner again!!! Very last contact at
very last second!!
Strongest signal was Bert, F6HKA in France at 40 over. Great signal Bert. I seemed like
everybody was strong again this time. guess the bands are just getting better and better.
Even the one watters were strong. For this event I used my FT-817 at 3 to 5 watts into a

The Keys used are shown in the photo. A 1962 Vibroplex Blue Racer, a prototype Pro-Pump

place to be, At the key. Ran 5 watts to a dipole @ 32 ft.

WS9E Operated by: Joe, 3859 from WI

There was lots of snowblowing and snow shoveling this weekend. The heat went off at 1 a
m Sunday because a huge snow drift had sealed off the air input and exhaust pipes to the
furnace. At 1:30 a m I was outside shoveing the chest high drift.

It all ended well and I got on 20 and 40 and 80 on Sunday. I kept falling asleep in
front of the radio, so, after a few QSOs, I "pulled the switch," and napped the rest of
the day away while watching football. Ah, life in the upper midwest...

I only had about one hour to play this time but I had a good time of it. Thanks the 40M
QSOs with my K2,5w,40M vertical dipole.

Very nice WES..because of the Geminids meteor shower, I only spent the last 6 hours on the
WES. Did three contacts on 20M to start at 1800Z then parked near 7114 and never moved.

Very nice steady pace for most of the afternoon but seemed to get slower as the day went
on. Nearly ALL contacts were 599 because the conditions were gud for moderate distances.
Filled in some west coasters at the end as it got dark.

Had to retune several times due to ices and snow buildup changing the antenna.

The Drake TR7 is a great sounding rig and I operated without break for six hours. Ran it
at about 120-150W for the day although it will do nearly 200 out on 40M.

Thanks to all I worked. Had a few call that I could simply not pull out of the QRN later
in the day. The blowing snow and ice made alot of racket.

Eggnog for everyone!

The great classic TR7 and 1947 Vibroplex Standard

What a great weekend for CW! 1/2 my time on the 10M contest, the other 1/2 on the WES.
Also, after having been on a QRP binge for the last couple of years, I am now on a QRO
binge. BIG difference between 5W and 500W. Feels good not working so hard every once in
a while. Thanks for the 559 Bert! (F6HKA). That's 3 times now Ed! (W7GVE) Must be a
worm hole for RF between you and me! Thanks Gene! (NY3C in Deleware) I can now "say"
I've worked all states!

KA5VZG Operated by: Alan, 6264T from MS

Planned a portable operation from Tunica County, Mississippi. Strong cold front with 20+
wind damaged homebrew buddistick. Thanks to good ole duct tape, I managed to get it
together long enough for Cecil, K5YQF, to save me from getting skunked. At least I know I
can operate portable on a bad day :-) Have to try it again at a later date for better
results. Even when it's "different", it's still fun.

Not much time spent on WES this month. Used the Bushwacker cootie shown in the picture.
Still pretty sloppy with it.

Howdy folks wanted to get a few pics from my new (Old QTH) as we are remodeling my wifes
old home place, but just to much going on. Merry Christmas To ALL! Larry

K5YQF Operated by: Cecil, 1820T from TX

Christmas shopping cut into the operating time but had a great time for the few hours on
the air. Thanks to AD5VC, K8KZH, KA3LOC, and W7SRM for 4 multipliers in the last 15
minutes. Sure helped my score. See you next Jan. Cecil, K5YQF.

W8WTS Operated by: Jim, 6359 from OH

This was my first SKCC contest event; I will be back for more! It was a very enjoyable
contest and gave me the perfect excuse to exercise my SK and Bug fists. More info at
www.w8wts.com and on qrz.com. 73 until next test.

Was not able to devote the chair time I was hoping to. Still had fun, as always. Look
forward to next one. TU to my contacts. Merry Christmas to all.

OH5FNI Operated by: Timo, 6378 from Finland

Timo says that the conditions were no good from his QTH. He heard stations in FRA and GBR
working with USA, but couldn't copy their QSO partners. Nevertheless he was lucky to get
at last three members from the States. He sends his best regards wishes Merry Xmas and
Happy New Year and tnx fer QSOs.

KØKEX Operated by: Rick, 5220T from MO

The final "WES" of the year brought several new members as well as the usual SKCC members.
I had a great weekend between the 10M contest and the "WES". The winter weather across the
mid-west with winds gusting to 50 mph created an S8 noise level BUT strong signals from
most stations over come the problem. One exception was John VK4TJ, with the filters set
just right and John's great operating we made a 40M contact, TU John. Congratulations to
everyone, the scores/comments indicate this was a great event to wrap up the 2010 season.
Looking forward to the January Anniversary event.....Happy holidays to all...!!!

Enjoyable test bands were good. Ineed to improve antenna for 80m. Lots of Bills on and I
worked 7 tnx all the contacts.

K2YWE Operated by: Dan, 2658 from MD

Heard F5De calling CQ WES. Didn't know what WES was. Looked it up and decided to put in
a casual hour in WES on 20m. It was nice to meet other SKCC members. Cheers!

K1PUB Operated by: Chas, 4101T from MA

Couldn't start operating until about 11 AM Sunday due to other commitments. But the WES
gave me a chance to really try my newly installed 43 foot (5/8 wavelength on 20 M) ground
mounted wire vertical. Sixteen 40 foot radials so far and an LDG tuner installed remotely
at the base in a waterproof (I hope!) electrical box. Seems to be working pretty well,
had a couple of good runs on 20 and it works on 30, 40 and 80 too, although usually not
as well as my Zepp on 80. Eventually moved to 40 M then 80 M. Enjoyed the WES, as usual.
And K3Y is only a couple of weeks away.

Wishing everyone Happy Holidays and a great 2011!

K4XML Operated by: Mark, 7034 from VA

This was my second WES and I enjoyed it even more than the first one. Propagation on 80M
seemed especially good. Seeing 10M up in the afternoon and evening was really a treat.
I've been a Ham only about 4 months, and I've hardly heard a peep on 10M the entire time.
Unfortunately I got yanked from the shack by the XYL just as the band opened, but I was
able to work some 10M skip after the WES was over.

KA1XC Operated by: John, 5188T from MA

Merry Christmas every one! 73 de John

Was only on for 2.5 hours due to family constraints. This was my first WES in 6 months and
it was fun. Sorry I had to limit time on because the bands sounded great. Had a really
good time and I am looking forward to the rest of this year's and January's events.

It was fun for the short period time I spent. Actually didn't think about doing the event
until it was on.!st WES I put any time into doing it. I am not a contester normally.

KKØI Operated by: Jack, 2370T from WI

Spent a little time on Sunday morning to make a few WES contacts...thanks all for being
out there. Again...80 meters and the old novice portion of 40 meters was hopping. I had
a great time as always and nice hearing some of those 7,xxx numbers out there. I used my
K4VIZ Cootie Key again...slapping away at the code. Hope to see you all on SKN...and fast
upcoming K3Y. We plan on operating K3Y/9 right along with Dan here in WI again. Catch
you down the log. 73, jack, KK0I

I worked the WES very occasionally due to excessive noise here. I am looking forward to
the SKS. I'll be operating portable in Tennessee.

Had lots of fun. I was good to be home and have time to get back on the air.
Used homebrew 2n2222 transmitter with DDS vfo at 99mW output for this sprint.
Thanks to all who did hear me and took the time for the contact and repeats.
