N7KFD Operated by: Jim, 3659 from UT

To many birthdays this weekend left little time to operate but had fun making the few
contacts I was able to squeeze in.

ACØPR Operated by: Mike, 7033T from ND

Spent 3 hours on WES, a few more contacts than last month. I had a great time!
I'm "retiring" my Homebrew key after today as I got WAS with it (not all SKCC though).
Thanks and 73 all.

IK2SON Operated by: Tony, 5486T from Italy

Today on 15 meters was going well then just dropped it from spreading in the evening on
20 meters but all signals will be low but that's okay for next time very tnx to all 73
TonY.

KD2JC Operated by: Joe, 710 from NJ

Another enjoyable sprint. Condx good here. Thanks to all 73.

N2JNZ Operated by: George, 2836T from NY

Had a great time with 1 watt !!! Worked FL, AZ , ND and all over the USA !! Thanks to
Bert , F6HKA for 20 and 15 meters !!! Also good to work Dave , W1DV , its been a LONG
time !!! Heard NG7Z on 20 meters but I couldnt make it. Also a QRP to QRP from Pete ,
W1PNS !! Rig here a Kenwood TS 930s and antenna a ZeroFive 40 meter vertical. Also used a
Oak Hills WM-1 QRP meter. And bug was the Good Ol 1964 Blue Racer. Thanks to all who
heard me !!!!

massive power ......... :)

WB8ENE Operated by: Art, 3773T from OH

Decided to crank it up to 5 Watts this time. Had a great time as usual. Rig is K3 with
135' doublet @ 15' for 80 and 40, and a 4BTV on the roof @ 25' for 20. See you in the
next sprint. 72, Art

Visiting Elecraft on my recent vacation to California

VK4TJ Operated by: John, 4474T from Australia

Possibly my worst score ever, despite superb upper HF conditions. On the bright side, 2
new (as far as I know) SKCC countries made their debut: EI & ES. In fact, all of my
QSO's were with non-US stations.

AC5CW Operated by: Eric, 4229T from LA

I tried to concentrate on 20m, Looking for the last few states i need for w.a.s. 20m. i
used my VIZ-KEY "COOTIE" for every contact. and a IC-718 RUNNING 100 WATTS INTO A G5RV AT
25 FEET. Nothing special, just a real challenge for me, using that rig with so many
stations on :-) i gotta get some filters soon.

WDØECO Operated by: Mitch, 6893T from MO

Another great WES. The Mizzou and KC Chiefs football games took some time away but it
was fun. My Begali Spark arrived on Friday just in time for the WES.

I was glad to work Bill, KB2RAW, once again this time. And of course some MO stations:
WA0BGV and NE0S, Slim and Mark.

I was hoping for a AK, DE, or HI for WAS but none heard.

73, Mitch WD0ECO 6893T

K8HW Operated by: Dave, 5324T from MI

This was the best WES for me so far! I only worked forty meters and all QRP. Had a real
blast!

N9QU Operated by: Leo, 3464T from WI

First WES with FT-817. Lots of fun in a small package, but still a little behind the
learning curve. Thanks to all for another great WES. See you next month from the left
coast, /6. 73

WA2JSG Operated by: Curt, 3018T from NJ

Decided to blow the dust off my IC703 (no filter-!UGH!) turned down to 5 watts. Vertical
antenna (elevated). Bencher key. 12v battery jumper box. All my 20 contacts on 40 meters
(great conditions).
Thanks to those that really had to listen up for my 'lil signal. Look forward to next time.

KA1SAW Operated by: Neal, 2824T from MA

It was a Good Weekend Sprint, had a fun time making the few contacts that I did.
Good to work Dave- W1DV again, its been a while Hi Hi. See you all next WES.
Neal - KA1SAW
SKCC - 2824T

W4CUX Operated by: Bill, 5497T from GA

Had a great time. Made a few contacts Saturday evening, but watching college football got
in the way. Sunday was great.. 10 meters was a bust for me, but 20, 40 and 80 were great.
Got to play with all my keys. Thanks to those who put up with my "bug" fist. Looking
forward to the next event.
73 - Bill

K5ENA Operated by: John, 3045T from OK

I forgot about the WES until the last 2 hours. Better late than never.

73,
John, K5ENA, SKCC 3045T

W9DLN Operated by: Dan, 3635T from WI

Great time as always. Mults were hard to come by and this afternoon was a little slower
than usual. Maybe shorter days means less of a window for DX. Most memorable was
working NM on 80. Oh well, there's always next month...

Special thanks to K2RFP and K3UK. Couldn't do this without you guys.

WA2OQJ Operated by: Jim, 5941T from NY

Yaesu FT-817nd @ 1 watt Dipole and 10' high 20mtr delta loop - I could only work approx. the
last 3 hours in this WES but was happy with my results...The delta loop is really working
well on 20 and 15 (17 too! but not in the sprint) My highlight this WES was finally working
Bernard F5DE on 40, we have tried numerous times with no success. Had to bump up the power
to 5 watts to do it so I didnt count his QSO or Randy KB4QQJ's (Forgot to drop the pwr back
down) in my totals...Hope to have time next one to work the entire Sprint!

72/73 ~ Jim WA2OQJ

KBØETU Operated by: Phil, 4542C from AL

Did the first 12 hours using my dipole up 15 feet. Last 12 hours I used a G5RV up 35
feet. Height plus the size of the antenna definitely makes a difference! Had 6 contacts
the first half, and 12 the last. Maybe next time I'll start out with the G5RV. It was
fun, as usual, and thanks to all. 73, Phil

Tied up with P.A.L.S. and dog agility event at purina farms most of the wwekend plud
house full of company from canada. got kb2raw early and Bert F6HKA this afternoon between
all other things. good sprint be ready for next month

W7GVE Operated by: Ed, 729T from AZ

Given the fact that 20 was terrible until late in the contest, and that the PA and AZ QSO
PTYS were supplying plenty of QRM, this was a good WES.... YS1GR was a nice surprise and
Bert F6HKA was there again.... I had fun again.. ED

KD8JHJ Operated by: Mike, 4877C from OH

What a blast! Good conditions observed from my QTH. worked 100 watts on 80m, 50 watts
on 40m and 20m. Rig: Icom 718 Ant: End Fed Half Wave wires horizontal. 40m wire at
38'. Keying: NT9K Pro-Pump and Vibroplex Original.

I heard many good fists- you guys are a class act. Thanks all for the contacts. This
will be my best score for any radio contest in my 2 years as a ham. CUL 73

K8JD Operated by: John, 1395T from MI

I spent the last few weekends repairing intermittant coax problems on the 80M antenna and
never made one 80M QSO on the WES.
Had fun on 40 and 20M .

N3EIN Operated by: Matt, 6742C from PA

I started on 20m last night at 0000Z with my new "C" and got 1 QSO with K0MC before the
band went dead by 0008Z. It looked grim with 40m and 80m busy with PA and AZ contests but
plenty of SKCC ops to be found. Worked around some big pileups on 15m today working K0MC
again but spent most of the time on 40m. N3MVX and I thought maybe 80m would be productive
early this morning, but I think we were the only ones Jim! Otherwise A very busy WES in
PA, so we should have a good showing in the stats. Next time I'm going to use a logging
program! Thanks to all for a great WES! 73 Matt

NØUMP Operated by: Bill, 659T from MO

It was a little crowded with all of the QSO parties going at the same time but WOW what
a great time. I really enjoy these sprints and what a bunch of fine operators to work
with. I got to work Harold on the next to the last contact. Thanks Harold. Again my
thanks goes out to everyone who makes these sprints possible. 73 Bill N0UMP 659T

important....I HAVE LOTS OF FUN! I am always 100olar powered, and soon I will try a
sprint using QRP only! TU to Ci (WU7R) for introducing me to my new habbit, and the SKCC!
If your havent worked a sprint yet, jump in and try! Its a blast! TU AR SK .. 73 TO ALL

80M in good shape Saturday night and should improve the further we get into Fall and
Winter. 40M carried the load as usual. 1 QSO on 20M. Nothing heard on 15M or 10M.

Changed station setup. Icom IC-7000 @10W to end-fed 30 Ft wire taped to celing and
running down the hall. 15 Ft counterpoise wire running from radio ground lug across the
floor and down the hall. Antenna system seemed to work better than my usual 50W to the
mobile whip vertical outside on the patio. ("Perception is Reality"?)

Key was a new Vibroplex "Code Mite" ... felt pretty good for a key that small.

All QRP this time-with a trap dipole in the attic. Thanks to all who dug me out
especially Bert F6HKA on 40 meters! My complements to everyone who works to make these
events so much fun!

Lots of fun! I heard lots of beautiful sounding fists. Strongest signal was Bert W5ZR. It
was nice to be able to spend more time on the air. Still, it never seems to be enough and
I always want more. Nice to see all the DX joining in!
Until next time, 73. Bill NT9K #1926T

FT1000MP, 100W, TH6DXX, dipole, zepp, inverted vee. Time was limited. Conditions were
pretty good on 80, 40, and 20. 15 was open, but heard no WES calls there. Thanks for
the QSOs. See you all next month. 73, John, K4BAI.

W3NP Operated by: Dave, 3182T from WV

I used my Ten Tec Argonaut V at 5 watts for the entire event. Keys used were the Vibroplex
Presentation bug along with the Telefunken German WW2 straight key.
40 meters seemed to deteriorate as Saturday evening wore on with sparse activity and weak
signals but I made more 80 meter Qso's than I have since last winter. 20 was just ok on
Sunday and 40 was so so with a lot of "watery" sounding signals on both bands, but I did
manage to work G0RDO and IK2SON on 20. All in all, not a bad WES for just running 5 watts.
I am in the process of renovating a spare closet for use as my wintertime QRP headquarters
and I just got enough of it together to get on the air by 0045 or so. I had a good time as
usual and enjoyed working some of the regulars such as K0LUW and W4CU on 3 bands.
Hopefully by November I will be more organized.

Spent just over 8 hours this weekend on the sprint. This is a substantial amount of time
for me on the radio but now that summer is over, most of my jobs on the property are done
for the year. Finally broke the 100 qso barrier. Haven't done that in a long time.
Terrific to hear so many non C's and T's. And also lots of high SKCC numbers. Out of 138
Q's, 91 were unique callsigns. Great showing again by Mr. Fist himself, Dan W9DLN, how
does he do that!!?? Congrats indeed. CU in the SKS. 73 Paul NG7Z

Made first WES contact on 6 mtrs -- TU Ron, AC2C. Another excellent turnout and lots of
activity, including new members. Bands noisier than usual but excellent signals most of
the time. Contacts on 5 bands: 80, 40, 20, 15, and 6. Come on, sunspots!!

AC2C Operated by: Ron, 2748T from MD

Great WES... I was much more active that I had planned.

My routine was disrupted when the Icom AH-4 remote tuner that I use on my inverted "L"
went belly up. Luckily, I had a spare on the shelf and it took 3-4 hours to lower the
wire, rerun the coax and control cable and get back on the air. Somewhere along the line,
I also ended up blowing the internal fuse on the IC-756Pro3 so that took an extra hour to
find and fix.

Great to get on HF CW again. Sorry y'all ... my HF antenna farm currently is down.
Continued good weather here in the "frozen" (H I) north will only delay the project
whilst I thoroughly enjoy a few more bicycle rides. Many thank Ken, WI1B for digging my
mobile signal out of the 40M din. Yaesu FT-100, ATAS-120, '02 Dodge Neon and trusty KY116
R/U made the one QSO possible. BTW Ken, I was only running about 10 watts RF output.
Great job! CUL all. 73 from AA9KH/Mobile.

Prior to this, I never seriously worked one of these. I think the most Qs I ever had was
six. But, I was off from work, and put in some time on this one and worked 46 Qs. I
worked at least six MO stations. I also got my long awaited WV station. Still no
Delaware or HI.
I had a good time and hope I can put this kind of time into future WES. Thanks to
everyone giving out contacts.

I've had my ticket for just a couple months, and this was my first Amateur contest of any
sort. I enjoyed it very much, and it was very helpful for learning CW op procedure. It was
also a great boost toward Centurion. Twenty of my thirty SKCC NRs were obtained in the
past 24 hours. The SKCC has been an invaluable resource in learning the code, and it was
great meeting and hearing you all in the WES.

W1RO/7 Operated by: Jim, 1379 from Las Vegas, Nv

Worked WES on 4 bands, 80, 40, 20 and 15 with fair results using my IC706MKIIG and the

next valley west of Las Vegas for a Nevada contact. Thanks to all that came to play.

Conditions on 80 meters sounded good here with low QRN levels. Worked SKCC stations in
FL, NV and BC within a few minutes of each other after 0400Z. But didn't hear much WES
activity after 0530Z so gave up for the night. Special thanks to VE5BCS for giving me a
call on 40 meters the next morning - a real surprise! I've never been called by the SKCC
Special Member before. My thanks to all of you for the FB QSOs and for making the WES so
much fun. 73, Bill

I was nursing a sore thumb from a rottweiller bite on my cw fist. I wish clubs would
spread out their contests over the year. This weekend their was the PA QSO party, AZ QSO
party, some DX contests, a FISTS sprint, and the WES. I dabbled in all of them, and then
their was the nice weather outside.

VE3FUJ Operated by: Brion, 4936C from ON

VE3FUJ The band seemed in good shape for medium skip 1.5 -- 3K miles I got a new state and
prov. I could only participate a few hrs. as we had company coming for Thanks-Giving
Dinner and I had to help preparing things. But it was good fun while it lasted. The first
hr was filled with west-coast calls, then a breather as the band seemed to change and not
much heard, I tried again later, around 0130z the band was very noisy not much going on, I
did pick up a few. In the morning around 1230z I picked a few more for a total of 20. then
it was time to help the XYL. Brion

WA1AR Operated by: Alan, 4079T from MA

Started out Sat night and SWR was crazy. Sunday morning my main antenna was down on the
ground. So I missed the usual Sunday morning operating. The deeper I got into fixing
the antenna the worse it got. The wire was oxidized and was hard to solder to. When I
went to pull it up the rope broke. Had to start all over, off to the hardware store for
rope and up the tree I go. Took a break and went to use a back up antenna and a PL259
with the brown insulator was fried and smoking. Had to change that too. Worked Bert W5ZR
as a test run in the afternoon to get one antenna going. By the time I got it all back
together and the tools and ladders put away it was over.

I heard no signals. I wonder if anybody had success on 10m.

W4TMW Operated by: Tom, 6184T from GA

This is probably the best WES I've been participated in as far as band condx were
concerned. Enjoyed all the activity and contacts. Worked about 5 hrs total.

Hope to do it again next month. 73 to all and good DX.

K1PUB Operated by: Chas, 4101T from MA

Ran my Omni VII at 80 watts to the 200 foot doublet with one end down (gotta fix that
before next WES!). Beautiful New England fall day, way too nice to be inside playing
radio, and social commitments also limited operating time but bands seemed pretty good.
Made QSOs on 160 thru 15 meters. Dan, W9DLN, seemed to be running multi op multi radio,
he was everywhere. Thanks for four bands, Dan. Nice to work Dave, W1DV too.

VE3GTC Operated by: Graham, 6829 from ON

Conditions where not so good for this WES. I only heard one station which I worked but
heard no others. I called several times but got no reply. Working QRP didn't help either.

W2RC Operated by: Club, 5073T from NY

A few members of the Radio Cantral Amateur Radio Club got together on Sunday
afternoon at the home of Dick, K2RFP to put W2RC on the air for the WES.

Dick teamed up with Jerry (K2PAY) and logged 8 QSOs and Neil (KC2KY) teamed up
with Tony (KA2PJO) and they also logged 8 QSOs. We ran 25 watts to an 80m loop
antenna. Cookie helped us with the code.

We had a nice time.

KF7ATL Operated by: Garth, 5914C from UT

It was a good sprint, and I had a fun time. I love the way everyone is so laid back and
willing to help a guy out. I only had time for 20 QSOs, but that's my 2nd highest since I
started. I worked Bert in France for the 3rd time (he was my only QSO on 15 m), but
couldn't copy Bernard at all. Go figure! Thanks, everybody!

KA1XC Operated by: John, 5188T from MA

It was a busy radio weekend so my time was spread out. I operated the AZ and PA QSO
parties a bit, looked for Oceana DX (heard nuttin new), banged heads in the ridiculous PJ
pileups (got nuttin!) and finally enjoyed a few leisurely WES contacts on 15M. Sunday was
nice so I started working on a RX delta loop before it got dark, then had to go make
supper (ham and beans!). Tnx for the fun and 73!

F5DE Operated by: Bernard, 6247T from France

It was nice to hear and contact SKCC friends again !
Not many QSO but always very exciting when the signals were as low as the ground noise,
for example the QSO with WA2OQJ/QRP was similar to an EME contact !
Also a good QSO with another QRP station : NE5DL.
And the hihlight of this WES : 7 bands QSO with Bert F6HKA, from 160 m to 6 m,
of course, we are quite neighbours (abt 100 km),
but the ground-wave was sometimes very weak, and I have no antenna for 160 m,
my old Hy-Gain DX88 GP + antenna tuner was used to do a difficult top band QSO (for Bert
I guess !)
Thank you all, 73 QRO and see you in next WES.

portable. I even worked Bert, F6HKA! He was 589 on me, and I was 579 there! Great time
at the campsite! Worked a few guys I always work, like Dan, W9DLN, and Bert, W5ZR. I
worked a few new ones too! Winter is coming, so more participation on the WES is in store!

especially F5DE. Couldn't work any of the EA stations that showed up.

With a limited amount of time over the contest weekend, I thought I would try something different. SWLing is harder
than you think. Can't ask for a repeat if you miss part of the exchange. But, you can learn to hunt down a station by
listening for an operators unique fist without having to wait for his call sign.

evening was filled with Big Band sounds from the "Moon Light Serenade" orchestra, good
friends and great weather. Thanks to KA2FIR, W7GVE, and Tony IK2SON for the Q's we managed
on Sunday. FYI: A museum cabinet filled with radio gear from the forties had a nice

Tried 10m a number of times but had no luck there, and only two QSOs on 15m... Worked
France on 15/20/40 thanks to Bert F6HKA and Bernard F5DE... Tks to Gary YS1GR for surprise
call and 599 rpt... Good to hear AK once again with Bob WL7WH on 20m during final hour
(hope your are around in January for K3Y when we need you!)... Tks to Ullmar for posting

I worked my first WES on Oct. 10th and had a great time. Folks were friendly and
patient. I plan to work quite a few more. I used my first - and only - straight key to
work the contest. It's one of those super basic MFJ keys that comes with a practice
oscilator. Minus the oscilator it's a nice little key. I'll probably use it forever!

Yes, this is my first key - MFJ straight key. Still works great!

My first entery for WES. Propagation was guite good. Can only work 20m & 40m bands.
Due to low noise on 40 meters, which is rare at my QTH, I was able to work some of the
weaker signals. Worked Harold in SK and Bob in AK, both on 20m. This was a good start for

Another great WES. I didn't get to work as much as I wanted but had a great time while
portable on Pilot Mountain. Or if you were and Andy Griffin (Andy of Mayberry) fan Mt.
Pilot. I took my 817 a 20m PAR EndFedz and a speaker wire doublet to the Pinnacle in the
State Park. Perfect weather and plenty of visitors asking about my set up. It was great to
hear NT9K again and some of the regulars I've missed the last few times. Strongest signal
was Dave W0YZZ in MO. A full 40 over. didn't get to work the club station, but managed
some new DXSKCC numbers. Bands were up and down but still plenty of contacts to be had. I
wish I had more time to play this WES. 73, es BCNU Randy_KB4QQJ

Got started real late and found the bands to be less than great.
Maybe help hit the 200 mark at least.
See you all next sprint/WES.
