K2OGT Operated by: Bob, 5266 from NY

was fun but only on 40 meters and conditions not the best with limited time

KL7GLL Operated by: Gene, 1098T from VA

Great participation with decent propagation made a fun WES. Seemed like more new members
and fewer Tribunes this month. Also more "no number" contacts with opportunity to promote
SKCC.

VE3FUJ Operated by: Brion, 4936C from ON

VE3FUJ. I had a very slow start, in fact 0 Qso in the first hr, I went Qrt till 1400
hrs Then things picked up nicely from there, ended up with 25 Qso's, a new record for me.
Not counting my special stn sprint.
I'm sorry if I missed anyone, and a thanks to those of You that picked my week QRP
signal out of the MUD. Brion

KA1SAW Operated by: Neal, 2824T from MA

Very noisey bands this weekend. Not a good weekend Sprint.
Oh well! There's next time. Had fun while it lasted.

W4TMW Operated by: Tom, 6184 from GA

Again, I really enjoyed this month's WES. I only operated Sat. night and some on
Sunday afternoon. Sat. night sure was a zoo but Sunday afternoon was most enjoyable.
The highlight of my WES was working Gordon,N6WK and Sean,VA5LF on Sat evening.

As usual, looking forward to the SKS in a few weeks. Hopefully I'll have my 'T'
submission verified and I can 'display' it proudly. :0)

73 to all

WA2JSG Operated by: Curt, 3018T from NJ

Nice WES, as always. Only sorry I couldn't spend more time in it.
Hr 45w to an elevated all-band vertical.

K3NCO Operated by: Marc, 6144T from MD

Only got to operate for about an hour on 20m. Surprized by the QRN considering clear
skies here - must be some thunderstorms on the way.

VA5LF Operated by: Sean, 4507T from SK

Thanks for the great sprint guys! Saturday night started out rough, between NAQP and some
neighbour's broadband noise generators. I've had better 2h sprints than the first 4 hours
of this WES. Picked up a bit on Sunday, too bad I had a function to attend with family for
the middle of the day. I was suprised 15 was so poor given the SFI, but c'est la vie. Last
2 hours ended strong, and had a blast! Next sprint will be with my new tower and KT34M2.
Can't wait!

WB8SDA Operated by: Carmen, 2339 from OH

Only had a short time to play WES this weekend, but as always, still had fun with the time
I had. See you next time.

WD5ABC Operated by: Kerry, 12 from TX

I haven't participated in the WES in a long time, I was in the shack working on a project
so I made a few contacts. My project took a little longer but it was great fun, thanks!

KC6ZZT Operated by: Joe, 3647 from CA

Limited time but maximum fun. Glad to be on the air. Greetings to all.

KG4W Operated by: Ed, 2416T from VA

Only worked the last 3.5 hrs. Ran with 200 watts. Grandson nr 1 & 2 & me all on green on

K4JPN Operated by: Steve, 2402T from GA

Conditions terrible here in GA. 73 Steve K4JPN

N1LU Operated by: Don, 2252T from NH

The perfect weather gave me a chance to work the WES on my deck QRP. Judging by the weak
signals, I guess I wasn't the only one. Worked the Sprint off and on between other
things. Worked mostly 20m with my FT-817, T1 tuner, and 60' wire from the deck to a tree
about 25' up. Worked 3 non-members.

W5ALT Operated by: Walt, 103T from TX

It was fun once again. The bands were strange, but interesting. Thanks for all the DX
stations that participated and N3RSD for making my day with a contact from DE.

K5ENA Operated by: John, 3045T from OK

Contacts mainly on 20 and 40. 20 was good Sunday afternoon. Enjoyed all the contacts.

John, K5ENA

KB4QQJ Operated by: Randy, 3508T from NC

Well there you have it! Another fine round of fun in the log. Bands weren’t so good in my
area this time, but still made plenty of contacts. Many new numbers for me this time too.
It was great to find NT9K and K2RFP. I’ve missed them the last couple times. Strongest
signal was John, K4BAI at 40 over. Most signals were down. Gave out very few 599’s.
Special thanks to Sean, VA5LF for a job well done. Chased him around long enough for him
to hear my signal. Thanks to Bert, F6HKA and Bernard, F5DE for pulling my signal out of
the hash. They were my only “over the pond” contacts this time. Used the 817 at 5w the
whole time into a doublet at 33 feet as an inverted V.
Keys were my Navy Flameproof from the USS North Carolina, and a 1962 Vibroplex Blue Racer.
73, BCNU next time.

KØLUW Operated by: Russ, 1702T from NE

Pretty good sprint except I was kept away from the radio too much, "honey do's". I got in
about 6 hrs of operating time. The signal strength on the bands seemed down a little bit.
Had a lot of fun and picked up Max, KH6ZM on 15m as my last contact just before the finish.

KBØETU Operated by: Phill, 4542 from AL

Nothing heard on 80 meters, 40 was really noisy, 20 was fairly quiet, 15 - dead with the
exception of one contact - first one ever for 15 meters for me. Bands were in poor shape
for my area, but that just added more challenge. Hope the bands are better for the next
one. 72/73 Phill

Well I had a lot of fun in the August WES. This is the first time I really put forth an effort to
make some points so we will see where it gets me.. CU on the bands...

Sure wish I had more time to work this WES. Fighting an S9 noise level all the time now.
TNX for the Q's and a couple of new T's towards Tx2.73

N3EIN Operated by: Matt, 6742 from PA

I really enjoyed this sprint making contacts in Spain (Lluis)and France (Patrice) using my
Ten Tec Century 21, a new SKCC Pro Pump Key (I love it)and a G5RV "Lite". I guess the
traps on the dipole really do work as I made a number of contacts on 40m last night, but
20m seems to work best for me. I was very surprised to work Sean at 1510 UTC and he really
worked hard but we were successful...an hour later he was booming in here in PA. This is
my third WES and I'm hooked!

K9ZMD/6 Operated by: Gary, 891T from CA

Opening hour was amazing on 20 meters. Wall to wall NA contest signals; however, most of
the SKCC signals were very loud. In spite of my lite-weight "100 watts to a doublet"
station, I managed to own a run frequency for over an hour! Family fun kept me away from
the radio for much of the remaining time, but I was able to sneak back to it from time to
time. Good to work many old friends (whose numbers I memorized long ago) and run into a
number of newcomers, too. Hope they all had as much fun as I did so we'll see them back
for the next event. 73

W9DLN Operated by: Dan, 3635T from WI

This WES started with a nasty thunderstorm cell that moved through at the beginning.
Another one followed about 0400Z. Not only got a late start but wasn't able to stay up
half the night. This really limited the Q's. Sunday morning was great. Spent almost
the whole day on 20. At about 16Z the DX started rolling in. It was a tidal wave at
2130Z. Worked five Europe stations in a row. Stateside mults were another story. I
didn't get Michigan until the last half hour of the contest! Very unusual and I was
worried. All in all not a bad sprint. I have had better but no complaints. Thanks for
all you guys that worked me and sorry I missed the ones I didn't

Special thanks once again to K2RFP who made the animals dance once and K3UK who ties us
all together. Couldn't do it without you guys...

See you next month! Dan, W9DLN

K4BAI Operated by: John, 3280 from GA

Band conditions were pretty good. Nice to work six countries outside of USA and Canada.
Sorry to be unable to copy a few callers. Lot of QSB, some QRN, and some power line noise
on 20M. Thanks for all QSOs. 73, John, K4BAI.

N9QU Operated by: Leo, 3464T from WI

Off to a good start Saturday evening. But the neverending thunderstorm kept me off the
air for a good part of Sunday morning and then conditions seemed to worsen a good bit.
Fun as always. Thanks to all involved. 73 til next month.

Another Contest messed up by another contest...Maybe if we started the contest @ 00:00Z
on Saturday we could avoid conflecting with these contests that start when we normally
meet. Just a possibility. I did as usual enjoy the limited time I had. 73's Dave W0yzz

W9CC Operated by: Larry, 469C from IN

It's lots of fun to work QRP but I'm glad we have guys with really good ears! 72!

WA1LWS Operated by: Hans, 1933T from MD

Band conditions were good throughout the sprint in Maryland. The noise level was low and
was able to eke out QSOs with many very weak signal stations. Made 7 DX QSOs with the
following stations: DL8UIL, EA3NO, F5DE, F6HKA, HA8KW, and KL8DX. Thanks guys. Fun,
fun, fun.

K4SKB Operated by: Ike, 6842 from NC

This was my first WES, not a lot of contacts but had a great time, thanks to all.

KB1OIQ Operated by: Andy, 6265 from MA

Worked QRP with the "tuna can family" and my new Hendricks SLT+ tuner, with a wire thrown
into a tree in my back yard. Made 3 contacts on 40m on Sunday. I had fun sitting at the
picnic table, but I had to dodge the raindrops during a very brief passing shower.

WL7WH Operated by: Bob, 2940T from AK

Band condx were up and down this weekend. The highlight was working Frank (N3RSD) so I
could finally get WAS.

KD5MMM Operated by: Phil, 4209C from TX

enjoyed it, 73 all ..

N2AUR Operated by: George, 5841C from NJ

I feel like the spell is broken - this is the first time I've ever worked the special
station, and I worked Sean on 2 bands. The conditions and propagation were almost ideal
(Considering what we've endured in recent WES's). Of course I couldn't spend as much time
playing radio as I'd like, but it was quality time spent. I'll see you all next month.

Good Sprint! I worked Sean (VA5LF) on 3 bands. Tnx Sean! I heard Walt (W5ALT) working
the DE station(N3RSD). I eally wanted to jump his frequency and get the DE station but
my "momma" taught me to be polite. Walt! Maybe you would have a kind thought about me
and my "momma" and let me jump in there (after you are finishd of course).

NØUMP Operated by: Bill, 659T from MO

Had a great time as always. The first day the bands were very busy with the NA QSO party
going at the same time as the sprint. Seemed like everyone was on a very noisy 40 mtr band
in the old novice sub-band. That was ok, it was fun. Sunday was better. Both 40 and 20
mtrs was going great. I even made a contact on 10 mtrs. Ran into my friends W0MSM and
WA0BGV and enjoyed working them. It was great to work Ed W7GVE. Lots of fine folk and good
fists out there...See you on the next one.....Bill N0UMP 659T

WØMSM Operated by: Mark, 6585T from MO

CW is alive! I don`t remember that many cw signals 40 years ago..with our sprint and the
NAQP ,,what a band full!! Glad NA ended for our Sunday period.Had a great time even tho I
missed a lot of Sunday for working...ended well....Great to be sending my new "T" with
6585 ,thanks RON (AC2C) for working so hard for all of us..Again apologies to some missed
stations cause the summer noise and QSB makes it tuff to hear all..Thanks everyone I could
hear and look forward to the next time 73 Mark

20 ran hot and cold 40 was a mass of QRN-- It was fun nevertheless-- Thanks to all who
dug out my signal.. ED

AC2C Operated by: Ron, 2748T from MD

A very fun sprint. I worked several members on 2 bands, a few members on three bands, and
WA1LWS on 4 bands.

W4CU Operated by: Tom, 2733T from FL

Just got a new (to me)K2/100 on Friday and went out of state for my little brother's
wedding that night. Returned to the TAMPA airport Sunday just before 7PM EST, hurried
home to Seminole to get in a few Q's and was on the air at 7:40 EST (2340 UT). Worked
VA5LF for my first contact and got in 3 more before closing time. Hope to work at least
10 hours next WES but had a lot of fun with the new rig this time. Thanks to all and vy
73 - Tom

WA1VIL Operated by: Greg, 443T from MA

What can I say-just too nice to be down in the mancave playing radio. Worked a little 40
on Saturday night and a little 20 Sunday afternoon. Fun always! 73!

KB1PBA Operated by: Peter, 6878 from MA

Fair condx on 20m with 60 pct of my QSOs and 40 pct on 40m with just tolerable noise
level. Using my PFR-3A at 5W. Tnx everyone for the good fun.

N2JNZ Operated by: George, 2836T from NY

Had fun with the Norcal 40A !!! 1.8 watts to a ZeroFive 40 meter vertical !! Thanks to all
who even heard my weak signal !! The rig has a nice 400 hz filter and a great RIT. Randy ,
KB4QQJ liked it so much he tried to work me twice .... hihi Rather surprised to hear Russ
, K0LUW doing S+P but very loud as usual. Larry AE4LD nearly blew my headphones off !! The
AGC seems to be the only weak point of the rig. 40 meters had a lot of QRN but still very
workable. Also nice to work several new members and non-members. The NAQP was bad for the
first nite. I would had a few more Qs if not for the crowded bands near 7050. All in all a
lot of fun and a great bunch of ops as usual !!!!

WS9E Operated by: Joe, 3859 from WI

Lots of thunder storms during the part of the sprint I intended to operate. I finally got
on for about 20 minutes on Sunday. Lots of QSB on 20.
Here's a first: when I powered the Orion on, to see how the sprint was going,a loud
signal was blasting through the speaker. I could control the loudness via the volume
control, but tuning or changing bands did nothing. I could hear some cw under the
broadcast. It was a religious show featuring a guy who said he was the cowboy preacher
from Oklahoma. When I plugged in the headphones, he went away. Unplug them and he was
back. Oklahoma is a long way from my QTH, so the signal must have been a local
rebroadcast.
With all that, I only made 4 QSOs. We are determined that neither the thunder storms nor
the cowboy will keep us off the air for long. I'll be back next time.

WB4OFT Operated by: John, 958 from NC

This was my first WES. Lot of fun. I'll be back.

WB8WTU Operated by: Dennis, 217 from OH

Dan, W9DLN - does the man ever sleep ? He has to be a lock for 1st place. As usual I only had limited time to operate
but had lots of fun. Also - as usual - the fists of SKCC operators are first class regardless of speed. VA5LF certainly
made himself available - thanks Sean. I sure hope we don't loose the old 40 meter Novice band. It was the only safe
haven from the NA contest on Saturday night. Hope to work you all next month.

NG7Z Operated by: Paul, 802T from WA

Not much time available this month but got a couple of hours in on Sunday. Summer months
are busy here with all the outdoor work and fun. Gotta enjoy it while it lasts. Fall and
rainy season is only a couple of months away. 73 and cul. Paul NG7Z

K3 5W Hex Beam/Vertical and able to spend more time this month Thanks to the organizers
for another fun sprint.

NØUYN Operated by: Dennis, 5753 from MO

Saturday night was wall-to-wall NAQP ops. Glad to find a few of us sandwiched in. Also,
glad there are that many who still care that much about CW operation. A special thanks to
Bill K8WSN for number 100 on my Centurion log, and all 99 others. 73.

F5DE Operated by: Bernard, 6247T from France

It was not possible for me to be active as we received family at home during their
holidays visit,
but I did a few QSO at the end of the event just for the pleasure to have even a very
little paticipation.
73 QRO to all and see you in next WES... and before !
Bernard, F5DE, #6247T.

GØRDO Operated by: John, 2133T from England

Only got on for a couple of hours and conditions didn't seem very good at all. 5 QSO's
all on 20M. Looking forward to the next WES along with much improved propogation :0)

time. Thanks again for the contacts.

Thanks again!!!

WB8ENE Operated by: Art, 3773T from OH

Enjoyed the sprint, but had both of my sons and their wives visiting on Sunday, so was
limited on the time available for making contacts. Again, most of my contacts were on
40. See you in the next sprint. 73, Art

Rough conditions this month!

W9HLY Operated by: Vern, 6672 from IN

Fun!

W3NP Operated by: Dave, 3182T from WV

With the ever present band monopolizing contests (want to know how I really feel about
contests!!) and the summertime QRN, it was a a bit of a struggle running QRP, but I kept
the power below 5 watts for the entire time I was on - see my new "Radio Research Ltd"
digital wattmeter in the upper right of the photo. It will pretty much hold a steady
accurate power reading at normal keying speeds while in peak mode.
I still can't figure out why Russ K0LUW can't hear me - tried in vain again this WES (3rd
in a row) on both 20 and 40 but no luck. I worked W7GVE Ed in AZ on both 20 and 40 and
also worked European stations F6HKA, EA3NO, IZ5GRS, and IK2RMZ.
I used my Vibroplex Presentation Bug and the WW2 German Telefunken straight key for the
entire event. Antennas were 130' center fed Zepp on 40 and the KLM-34A on 20. I checked 15
several times but didn't hear anything.
Oh well, fall is coming and the bands should get quieter as far as atmospheric noise is
concerned.
All in all, I had a great time and as usual looking forward to next month. Thanks to all
those great ops who picked me out of the noise.

Thank you for another fun sprint. Although I only had a little time to work it, I
appreciate this event very much.

KC2DQV Operated by: Bob, 1064 from NY

First time attempt at contesting. I only got on for about 20 minutes late Sunday
afternoon, then my key went out of adjustment. Had fun, though, and hope I learned a little
something about contesting.

KD8JHJ Operated by: Mike, 4877C from OH

Got on for a bit Saturday night. Had traveling and visiting to do Sunday. Nice to get on
the board for a few anyway. Tnx for qsos 73

GØARZ Operated by: Jeremy, 6319 from England

Managed to get a few hours to work the WES. Conditions were poor; 20mtrs and 40mtrs gave
some European contacts, including my first Centurion qso, IK2SON, but on the whole it was
quite a struggle on 5 watts. Never heard any US or Canadian stations. Heard F6HKA on
20mtrs twice, but was unable to get a contact.
Still good fun though.

KØKEX Operated by: Rick, 5220T from MO

As the WES started I discovered the NA QP was in progress and 20M was a busy place. The
second thing I discovered was my beam had shifted position by 90 degrees. After making a
correction I began the WES with Walt LW3EX and then later in the first hour I heard WA0BGV
less than 50 miles to the south. Interesting conditions, but dinner took presidence and
when I returned I found conditions on 80M about the same AC2C & K0LUW back to back QSO's.
Then a check on 40M I found Sean VA5LF and many others thru midnight...a little sleep and
back to 20M for a run Sunday....the temperature in the KC area went to 101 degs, the idea
of correcting the beam heading was shelved for cooler times. One contact stands out,
AJ8MH, Joe was not working the WES but was glad to make a contact for the log. Late in the
day I stumbled on to Sean on 20M...many thanks Sean for being the Special station this
weekend and thanks to all that made this event very special.....73 to all, Rick

Noticed considerably more "bug" users this time. All sounded quite good. Bands were good
with many very loud signals. As always, it was fun.

Sorry I didn't have more time for this month's WES. But it was fun to use the old J-38

everyone I worked and hope to CU again soon.

Saturday evening was a challenge with the NA contest, but Sunday afternoon was great.
Unusual propagation - worked France, Spain, two from Alaska and several from New England.

This month I was operating from a county campground in Genessee county, MI with my MFJ
cub and a hastily assembled dipole on 40M. With power from a gel-cell, I read just under
one watt!
With grandkids, son, daughter-in-law and wife along I just had time for an hour of radio
play at the end of the event. The CQ/NA on Saturday made it impossible to get a QSO going.

W4KRN Operated by: Karen, 4495T from VA

Lots of weekend activities, but it was fun making the contacts I did. 20m had lots of QSB,
seemed like everyone went from 559 to 599, then back again. Used my Begali Spark key. Hope
to make more contacts next time.

N4QLB Operated by: Michael, 6650T from AL

I purchased the Bug from Paul, K3STX on Tuesday. It arrived on Saturday at about 2:00 PM CST
so I only had a few hours to learn how to set it up and use it. This was the first time I
ever touched a Bug. Had to slow it down so as you can see by the pic, I had to improvise a
varispeed with a couple of clamped on brass nuts and a articulating closepin. It worked
great! I have since ordered a real Varispeed from Vibroplex. I discovered that too much
weight makes it clunky. Anyway, I now love the bug and used it exclusively for the sprint. I
am still looking for a Navy Flameproof. Everyone that has one says its their favorite
straight key so I have to try one for myself. With two contest going on it was pretty
difficult to work in the popular bands and freqs but I still had a great time. Hope to see
you in the next SKS.

AB1BW Operated by: George, 2468T from CT

Good sprint despite the erratic band conditions and QRN. Made most of my contacts on 20
and 40 meters and even managed to squeeze out one with K0LUW on 15 and another with W4NBS
on 10 meters. Thanks, Sean, for the contact on Sunday. See you next month. 73, George

Another FINE WES! Most enjoyable....

N4KGL Operated by: Greg, 5123T from FL

First chance in a while due to a conflict on the 2nd Saturday of the month. This was a good
chance to use the new Sierra. The 2 watts output can make plenty of contacts. Some were
tougher than others. Thanks for pulling me out on those.

The WES is always fun.

KF7ATL Operated by: Garth, 5914 from UT

Had a great time, as usual. Saturday night 40M was hopping! On Sunday, 20M not so much.

NT9K Operated by: Bill, 1926T from FL

Wish I could have played more. I still had fun. We had storms in the area on Sunday and
that didn't help. Nice to hear all the new guys working the sprint too. Used to be,
hitting 100 entries in the WES was a big deal, now its unusual if we don't.
Equipment used in the sprint, Kenwood Ts-870, MA5B mini beam and my key was a GHD
sideswiper. I also used a couple of the amplidan keys. Only worked 20, 15 and 10m this time.
Until next time, 73. Bill NT9K..

W7JZE Operated by: Bill, 6053 from CA

My first Ham contest :-)

I heard a lot of activity on 40m Saturday night. I didn’t think to try 80m then, but I
should have, just for kicks. I’ve never made a Q on 80m, this would have been a good
time to try that. I stayed with it until 2:30AM, Sunday (CA time). By then I made 11 Qs
with my old Drake TR4 & the silly long wire ANT draped along my wooden Backyard fence,
then I fell asleep.

I got up 4 hours later and tuned up on 20m. Took a while to find some activity on 20m
and while I waited for 20m to wake up, I also tuned up on 15m and then 10m, but never
heard anything on either band, morning time in CA.

I made a couple more morning Qs on 20m, including W7ALT whom I had worked the night
before on 40m. I thought that was pretty cool :-) I stayed with it until 2:30PM CA time
when the lack of sleep from the previous night caught up with me and I spun into the
comfy couch. I missed the last 2.5 hours napping with “Dah-dit-dah-dit… Dah-dah-dit-
dah” ringing in my ears.

I really had FUN with this. My score isn’t so high, but it doesn’t matter. I made more
Q’s in 24 hours than I usually make in 3 or 4 weekends. Cool beans. Let’s do it agn!

Yep, exactly one year ago Samantha (Sammi) decided to drop in right before the August WES
(future SKCC YL?). Amazingly things went so well with her and the XYL that when I was
home from the hospital for a bit taking care of my son, I was able to get on the air and
make a few WES and WAE QSO's while he napped. It seems like such a blur now!

So this Saturday we were out of town most of the day so that we could have her first
birthday party at Grandma's. Sunday morning 40M and 20M were unusually quiet with S0
noise levels, but I couldn't raise anyone on 40, so I switched over to 20M and hung out
there for a while. Sunday afternoon it was really beautiful outside, so that pretty much
meant the end of radio activity for the rest of the day. 73!

Worked mostly 20 meters, portable from a 32' motorhome, 28' roof mounted vertical, TS-
480SAT @ 100W. Fun WES as always, but too busy vacationing. W7GVE was the big signal,
and Ed was making scads of contacts. Lots of cable TV leakage here, raspy, growling,
sigs sliding up and down the band. Tough copy. Thanks to all who participated.

My first SKCC event - using my J-47 key from 50+ years ago, with an IC-746Pro. Limited
antennas - Hustler mobile on 20m, hamstick dipole on 40m. I enjoyed this a lot - will be
back for more events!

I worked the WES from the Columniana County Fair,
where I was operating from the Emergency Management Agency's
Incident Response Vehicle (IRV).
Could not concentrate on WES as I wanted, due to folks
stopping by and asking about Morse code and Ham radio.
Still had a good time.
Ant was a dipole up 30ft and ends abt 8ft up with
an angle of 60 degrees. Pretty much a sloper.
Seemed to work OK.
