GØRDO Operated by: John, 2133T from England

Enjoyed this WES and worked 11 SKCC'ers. Many thanks to
F6HKA,NT9K,W1PNS,PH6SKCC,PA3CLQ,PI4OTC,PI4RAG,K3Y/9-Dan,KC9KHG,K4CML and WA3SLN.
Also amazed to have David / HZ1PS (Saudi Arabia) call me on 20M for a chat around 1500z.
My station: Yaesu FT-897D - 100 watts to a Cushcraft MA6V vertical.
The key used was a Marconi Co designed ITT MARINE straight key that was used at Coast
Radio station NITON RADIO / GNI up to 1987 when Niton's CW distress watch ceased. A real
gem to use (I give it 9/10)and an honour to put back on air.
John / G0RDO

ITT Marine Key. ex GNI.

N9QU Operated by: Leo, 3464T from WI

Limited time for participation this month but as always, Lots of Fun!

WA6L Operated by: John, 4210C from CA

Once again, I did not get to work the WES for more than a couple of hours. One of these
times I am going to have to figure out a way to get out of all my other chores and honey-
do's. At any rate, I had a ball while I was on. Plenty of strong signals out there and
some great fists. I am glad to see participation growing both in the club and in the WES.
73 and thanks to all that heard my signal. John, WA6L

KC9HGW Operated by: Bob, 281T from IL

NAQP really filled the bands on Saturday. I found a couple WES stations in the mix and
worked them. Heard EA1EVA this morning on 20, but didn't have the energy to brave the -8
deg F temp in my slippers to change to the 20M dipole.

KEØN Operated by: Eliot, 256T from Minneapolis, Mn

Was fun to bounce back and forth between WES and K3Y Event, closer to the sweep, just a
couple more. Thanks to KH6ZM for hanging in there on 17 meters. I waited 45 minutes to
pounce when signals came up (just a wire) and got him. Very gratifying to pick up stations
QRP even if just a few.

WØSZV Operated by: Eldon, 4999T from MO

Kind of crazy with K3y, WES and all the other contests, but was fun Got Max in HI and 2
AK stations Great time.

AE4LD Operated by: Larry, 3090T from NC

Thanks to all for a great time. Already looking forward to next month es A great group.
73 Larry

W4FOA Operated by: Tony, 0641 T from GA

Good band conditions and lots of activity. Guess the very cold weather kept a lot of us
inside. Thanks to all for the fun! The BIG signal of the day belonged to Bert, F6HKA! 73
and wishing everyone a Healthy and Happy 2010.

W5ALT Operated by: Walt, 103T from TX

Lots of fun once again, especially with the chase for all the K3Y's. Thanks to all the
K3Y operators for doing a great job! I managed to complete the K3Y sweep and work a few
more for WAS.

Now, if we could convince Delaware to seceded from the Union, I'd have WAS. :)

KD6HTN Operated by: Kate, 5405 from CA

For me this was a great WES! 20 m (which my antenna likes) was wide open & I had time
during the day to make use of it. Had some trouble with all the QRM, but I consider it
friendly QRM, since it's all us. My CW is getting smooth enough that I'm not having
anxiety attacks over it any more. I felt that I could copy most of the SKCC QSO's that
were going on. This is good! Got three new states.

Ready for action .. using Bencher straight key

AB1BW Operated by: George, 2468T from CT

This was a perfect way to spend a cold New England day. It was good to see all of the
activity on the bands. The conditions were pretty good until about 1 PM so I took a
break and watched a football game. I could not find Brian, but worked both Alaska and
France a couple of times each. Had lots of fun and am looking forward to next month.

This WES QSO party put me over the top for the Tribune award. Great fun! 73, Don w7GB

K4CML Operated by: Colin, 224 from VA

This WES started off wrong, being on a contest weekend, but settled down soon. My 2nd
WES and getting a little better as I go. Can't wait until Mr. sunspot decides to do his thing.
Waiting for next one now.

N2AUR Operated by: George, 5841 from Ringwood, Nj

Once again I've got a total blank on the "special" station. I'm starting to wonder if they
really exist - Hi. WES + K3Y made for an interesting, fun time. No matter how I do in the
contest, I did get enough SKCC numbers for my Centurion, so I'm happy.
See you all again next month.
George N2AUR

W9DLN Operated by: Dan, 3635T from WI

Nothing better than WES during K3Y! Thanks for all the QSOs everyone.

N6WK Operated by: Gordon, 3 T from CA

Had a Great time. It was wonderful to see the band open up into Europe during the WES.

Hope you all had as much fun as I did.

WA1AR Operated by: Alan, 4079T from MA

I out did my personal best in QSO count, because NE Patriots were so bad and I could not
watch the 4th quarter, this gave me some extra time to play radio. The bands had QSB all
weekend. Spent the last half hour on 80M and worked UK twice and France twice, none of
which were members.

Fun as always.
Alan

W4CUX Operated by: Bill, 5497 from GA

This was great fun. This was the second SKCC event I have participated in. I'm still
learning, but much better this time. One of the highlights was working WA1JXR. I was his
first SKCC QSO. Made him aware of the sprint. Hope he posts his score... he had at least
one QSO. Looking forward to next event.

N5LUL Operated by: Brad, 3779C from TX

Had a great time as always. Rig this weekend was the Yaesu FT-920, Winslow key, and
dipole at 35' for 40m, Mosley 3el beam at 40' for 20M. Ready to try it again next month.

VE3AKV Operated by: Bob, 5204T from ON

I had a hoot with this WES. I could only devote a couple of hours to WES, but I had a
great time just the same. I worked lot's of new numbers and calls I'd never seen before.
See you all at the next event.

KØLUW Operated by: Russ, 1702T from NE

An unusual WES. Most of the folks were chasing the k3y stations and not many CQing and
answering cq's. It will be better next month. Lots of fun as always.

N6CMF Operated by: Phil, 2740C from CA

Good radio conditions...Lots of participation; Never a dull moment!

N2JNZ Operated by: George, 2836T from NY

Rough going during the NAQP but made quite a few. Sunday was much better with 20 opening
up nice !!! Thanks to Phil , KL8DX and Bert F6HKA and Javi EA1EVA and last but not least
my bestest buddy Gordon , N6WK !! Sunday was also good for 40 , calling CQ and Paolo ,
F8ENY came back to me. Ran 100 watts with the NAQP mess to the ZeroFive vertical and used
the Kenwood TS 930s along with the Vizkey 90 degree Bug. Thanks to all who participated !!!!!

K3NCO Operated by: Marc, 6144 from MD

First SKCC event for me. Started Sunday morning as NAQP had the bands tied up Saturday
night. IC-756 proII, Nye Viking Master key, Inv.Vee/Dipole/Beam 80/40/20. Didn't hear
anything on 15. Figure about 7.5 hrs running Logger32 - definitely NOT the way to go.

K4BAI Operated by: John, 3280 from GA

FT1000MP, Alpha 78, 1KW, TH6DXX, dipole, zepp. Thanks for all QSOs. Time was limited,
but conditions were pretty good. K3Y/KL7 (KL8DX) was very loud on 20 and I heard WL7WH
there also. Was called by F5DE (member) and F8ENY (non-member) on 40M. Happy New Year
to all. 73, John, K4BAI.

NT9K Operated by: Bill, 1926T from FL

Nice to see such good participation! 20 meters was open early to Europe Sunday morning and
had some FB QSO's with our DX members. Got to work a couple new C's this time. The biggest
signal was John K4BAI. I heard some great fists this weekend too. For this sprint, I only
used the GHD sideswiper. I would have spent more time on the air, but I'm not used to the
cold and spent most of the day hugging my heater.
Until next time, 73 Bill NT9K..

VE3CWU Operated by: Bob, 5133T from ON

Had only a few hours on Sunday afternoon for this WES. Lot's of fun. Thanks again to the
SKCC organisers. 73, Bob VE3CWU

K9ZMD/6 Operated by: Gary, 891T from CA

Working two 3 hour shifts as K3Y/6 really kicked up the level of fun for me. Thanks to
all who patiently waited & apologies to those (thankfully few) I simply couldn't pull
thru the noise. Bands were busy, but it was QRN, not QRM, making for hard work.

I worked several QRP stations, two of them back-to back. N8BB in Michigan peaked to 589
during the QSO, followed by K7HV (not SKCC) in Seattle with just 400 milliwatts.
Although he peaked twice to 599, he once briefly faded into the noise.

Did I forget to say that I had a real ball working this month's WES? And, in addition to
all else, I finally snagged that elusive K3Y/3 (tnx Ron) to complete the 12 region
sweep. 73 'til the next one.

WA1VIL Operated by: Greg, 443T from MA

Not a lot of time on the air-probably spent too much of it trying for K3Y/KH6 (I'll get
you sooner or later Max!). Thanks K1PUB for the 6M QSO! 73 to all est HNY!

KL8DX Operated by: Phil, 3800T from AK

**OPERATED AS K3Y/KL7**
I only operated the last 6 hours of the WES with only two breaks, both were previously
arranged skeds, one for RTTY and one for SSB. I operated in the NAQP CQ Contest, so
Saturday was out. It was great to work several SKCC members in that contest, too.

I hit the ground running and it's always fun working through those calling. I have really
enjoyed my membership with this organization and the friendships it has made. For those
involved in SKCC, it's more than just a number. I'm getting into /QRP /P operating this
year so I'm looking forward to making many SK contacts while out and about in and around
Denali National Park.

With that said, it's an honor to be able to operate as I did Sunday (and this month) as
K3Y/KL7. Thanks for all the QSO's and hopefully I did not miss too many that were calling.
Lots of highlights and not enough room to mentioned them all here. Thanks to all those
that make this and all the SKCC activities possible.

40 Meters only. FT-950 @20Watts to homebrew vertical. J-37 key.

Pleasant surprise to work Bert, F6HKA, at 0533Z. Worked K3Y/5 ... now only need seven
more to sweep.

Only had couple of hrs today and 4 very early this morning. Still great time.

KCØJBU Operated by: Kevin, 2857 from CO

First submittal for a SKCC sprint. Thanks to the folks who had to deal with 229 and 339
signals from me on 20M. I am having an absolute fantastic time with this rig, making
improvments weekly. Receiver still has more noise than my Yaesu, but it's getting
better. Transmitter is a crushing 0.9 watts output. Fun to enter a score, as I have
worked some stations in other WES but not submitted before. 73, Kevin KC0JBU/qrp

A very enjoyable sprint. It was a blast to work VK4TJ, John. His weather had to be
better than mine at 15 degrees F. 73 everyone.

Hadn't planned on doing the WES, but worked KK7O and AC7T after the NA QSO party on 80M
Saturday night, then heard a few "CQ WES" calls on Sunday so jumped in to give out a few
points. Always great to work old friends again (like Gordon N6WK and Ed W7GVE) and
especially nice to meet new members and hear them making Q's. Whatta group!

Well that was a fun weekend! I operated as K3Y/4 for the WES. Conditions were better than
expected. I worked part of the event from my club. I used a newly acquired Hi-Mound BK-100
bug, NT9K #8 cootie and a J-38. Got to use the 20 meter beam at the club which is nice.
Lots of new numbers this time too. Strongest signals were Bill, NT9K at 40 over. Bob,
WL7WH was 10 over off the side of the beams!! Nice signals guys. A pleasant surprise was
F5DE and VK4TJ. I really didn't expect them at that time of day. Thanks guys.
Never did make it to the club call. Next time maybe.

Conditions were rather good but this WES did not work out well for me. I am reporting in
for activity but posting a paltry score. 73

New member. First SKCC activity. Was a lot of fun. What a great way to knock the rust off
that old straight key (and operator)!

AC7T Operated by: Doug, 5368T from WA

What fun! I had a ball operating K3Y/7 for a few hours. Conditions on 20 were good most
of the day Sunday, which made all difference. I worked several stations in New England,
which is unusual for me. Hear you all next month.

Just got on for the last hour. Used my Novice key from Radio Shack (the famous Japanese
ball-bearing key, now available as the Ameco AM-K4). Bought it new in 1975.

I was not really working WES, I was giving points, and following KY3 too! So, i thought i
would tally and turn it in! WES is always fun, and I am having a blast with KY3, and had
some time as K3Y/8! Also had total sweep too! Thanks to everyone for the fun!

F5DE Operated by: Bernard, 6247 from France

Just having received my SKCC number the 4th of this month (tks Jeff K9JP), it was a real
pleasure for me to have a first ever small participation in the WES.
Also the activity of K3Y/x is an exciting operation to be hunt for different operators
and zones.
In this new year's beginning, among my 60 different hand-keys, I choosed a
french "Manitone" from DYNA, and also my 2009 Xmas gift (thanks to my wife Nicole) a
beautiful and well working second hand VIBROPLEX model "Champion" from 1976.
I hope being able to be active again for a future WES, and of course I will look from
time to time for SKCC numbers for geting my "Centurion" as soon as possible !
Many thanks for your patience OC as I am sure that my 50 watts and old GP antenna signal
was not very strong in USA !
Best 73 to all of you and I hope to cuagn soon on the air !

I had a fun time checking the bands for K3Y and WES ops. I had a very nice 1hr+ qso with
Milt, K4OSO near midnight local time. 73

Tnx everyone for a good time and the K3Y stations. The most Q's ever on SKCC and my
highest score yet. I missed
a couple Q's because I copied wrong or missed the information. Better luck next time.
Looking forward to the next sprint.

Sorry that we were unable to participate this month. Our Club was doing it's thing at the
Ham Radio University in Bethpage, NY. Look for us next month.

K1PUB Operated by: Chas, 4101T from MA

Worked the WES for two hours Saturday evening as K3Y/1. I originally had plans to be away
most of Sunday but they fell through so I decided to give it a shot on Sunday as well.
The bands were in pretty decent shape, the QSOs kept coming and of course the more QSOs
and multipliers you get the more you get caught up in it. It’s addictive! I enjoyed it,
but I gotta say I was pretty tired at the end.

Thank you to all the club members that work so hard to keep SKCC going and growing, and a
prosperous 2010 to all.

Again didn't have much time but made a few Q's. All QRP this time. Used the Speed-x
straight key that I used for my first contact back in '76. Hope to have more time for
next month, and maybe my new QRP rig will be built and on the air.

N8BB Operated by: Werner, 5433T from MI

Slow weekend with the cold/flu bug. Felt really bad and just no gumption for any serious
play but just an easy relaxed playtime.QRP is lots of fun but sure was tough at bad
conditions, so many thanks to everyone that pulled me out of the noise. Still the best
bunch of hams anywhere right here on SKCC.

KØKEX Operated by: Rick, 5220T from MO

Just got dug out again, when I talked with Bert F6HKA he noted they had 7 1/2" snow.
The limited time for this WES gave us 8 new numbers, Brian VE5CUL being one of them.
George N2JNZ's VizKey sounds great. With the K3Y anniversary and the WES event it
was a great weekend. Today is the first day since Christmas eve that the temp has been
above freezing here...maybe the snow will be gone by June Hi Hi...
thanks to all 73, Rick
p.s. it was 105 degs here last Field Day.

My first time submitting, hope I get it right. I like the slower pace of the SKCC
sprint. Used a new straight key and got chance to get the feel of it (very light
touch). Look forward to the next one. Made my contacts with a small screwdriver antenna
fed against the gutters, thanks to the people who managed to hear me.

VE5CUL Operated by: Brian, 1672 from SK

This WES was both fun and frustrating. I had hoped to make a lot more QSO's than I did.
On Saturday at the beginning I got one on 20 just as the band vanished. I listened to
S7 static on 40 and 80 for the rest of the evening and the NA contest and by midnight I
was convinced that my signals were landing in a field just out of town. On Sunday 20
meters proved a little better and I made the rest of the contacts except for one on 40 in
the last couple of minutes. Hello again to those I was lucky enough to QSO with.
So much for that story.
It was good to read that many of you got out to Europe and so on.
I was planning to get on the air more and this was a good way to start the new year.
I also found it interesting to learn about the K3UK sked page.
If Dick-K2RFP asks you to be the Special SKCC Member for a sprint go for it.
Thanks Dick - It was a great learning experience.
I am looking forward to meeting more of you on the air and to becoming a more active
member of the cw community.
Thanks again to Dick and everyone.

I made a token 4 QSOs in the Sprint just to get on the air. It was great to snag K3Y/9 operated by Dan W9DLN.
I used my Ten Tec Argonaut V running about 15 watts into a Hustler 4BTV and my 1940 Deluxe McElroy Bug.

This was my first SKCC event and I had limited time but it was fun and I am looking
forward to the next one when I will hopefully have more time. I was using my Eico 720 with

Speed-X which was the last key used on SKN.

GREAT SPRINT! I could only be on a few hours but it was GREAT. Added a new country,
France, first QSO on 17 mtrs (who would have thought it was active after sunset), 2 new
states and 4 more T's for my T. WOW! I'm just sorry I couldn't have been on longer. Thanks
