Far more challenging with ARRL SS going...FUN!

VE3AKV Operated by: Bob from ON

Hey Gang... I only had the last hour to play, but I gave out some points just the same. 40m is where I stayed as per usual...7.109 to 7.115.
Actually got hammered by some international SSB. Funniest moment... Jim (KK7YJ)was calling me from MT and Bob I0QM in Italy is calling too...hmm, which
to grab. Easy - Bob's worth a bunch more than Jim. Sorry Jim...he's gonna get me for that one. 72/73 to all.

GØRDO Operated by: John from England

Great fun again. Conditions not good and the SS TEST caused big problems.

KØLUW Operated by: Russ from NE

A tough sprint. Very frustrating because of the CWSS. Maybe we should consider scheduling around some of these major contests. Had a lot of fun
for the few hours I was on.

N3JJT Operated by: Scott from OH

I worked all 40m above 7.100. A bad weekend for the sprint, with the sweepstakes going on...A little more planning should have taken place.
All the bands were packed with "Big Contesters"..Still worked a handful of stations...but not a good weekend for the sprint! I am not a big contester to
begin with...so disappointing not being able to move around to work the other bands for the sprint!

N9QU Operated by: Leo from WI

Saturday evening and early Sunday wall to wall "SS". But I think with 4hours and 45 minutes to go they were begining to tire. Great fun and
all that QRQ helps with the head copy. Thanks to all and 73.

KA1SAW Operated by: Neal from MA

It was fun. I could only work the bands for a short time. Great time as always.

KI6BHB Operated by: Dave from CA

Made 6 qsos on 15m. Pretty sure thats the most on 15 for me.

Thanks for another great time on the WES.

Dave

AE4LD Operated by: Larry from NC

Best WES so far for me, had a great time, Thanks to all I made contact with, I'm still learning and hope that my Fist is getting some what
better. I look forward aready to next month. Getting closer to the Centurion mark. 73 all and many thanks. Larry

W9DLN Operated by: Dan from WI

Thanks everyone for a really great sprintathon! Had reservations because of SS but everything worked out. Again special thanks for the help of
K2RFP and K3UK. Couldn't have done it without you guys.

W6UT Operated by: Dennis from CA

Fun Sprint. Was able to spend more time. Great to see 15M open for period of time today. Mostly used 59 Blue Racer Deluxe.

KL7GLL Operated by: Geme from VA

Busy weekend, but got on for 45 minutes to pass out points. Especially good to see how members adapted to the SS competition and moved higher in
the bands. I especially enjoyed working several QRP stations that had excellent signals and several new WES participants.

K4CNW Operated by: Jack from SC

Due to illness and other distractions this was my first time on the ham bands since 6/21/2009. Only had an hour to operate. It was a pleasure
to meet a few new members and see some old friends. I will be moving the shack to the main floor of the house in the next few weeks and hope to be back
on more often.

N2AUR Operated by: George from NJ

Not only did I have the challenge of competing against ARRL CW SS, but it was also the XYL's birthday hi! On any day of the week, I can work
Italy without a problem - today I couldn't make contact on any of 3 bands! I'll have to look to see if my antenna is on the ground.
Thanks to all the stations I worked for their patience. I bit the bullet and used the sidewinder key for the entire contest.
Once again a fun contest regardless of score, and I got to work a bunch of new stations putting me closer to Centurion status.

K9ZMD/6 Operated by: Gary from CA

Loads of fun in spite of the SS bedlam. Lots more SKCC activity above 7100 this time, and we really got creative on 20 & 15 meters (I doubt if
we bothered the WinLinkers on 20).

I ventured into QRP for a while to help some friends. Amazing what 5 watts can do (I've forgotten what fun that can be). It might be time to drag out
the Index Labs QRP+ again.

I was disappointed to realize my planned vacation to Utah this month does not coincide with WES or SKS. It has been many many months since a Utah
station submitted a log for either event. Actually, we seldom see a log from quite a number of states. Lately, when I chat with an SKCC member from any
of those states, I encourage them to join the fun and submit a log. So far, my success rate has been totally consistent (though not the way I hoped). 73
and thanks to all for the fun.

House full of kids and grandkids Saturday night. I did not get on until 9 AM Sunday morning. Spent a few hours until football came on. Then
came back for an hour or so. SS stations everywhere. Worked 3 while calling CQ WES. Worked KC1JB five bands. I0QM was 589 on 40M real arm chair copy
best I have every heard.

KC2EGL Operated by: Michael from PA

I did not have much time for this months WES. A volunteer fire department gun raffle/fund raiser on Saturday night and a lot of yard work that
needed to be taken care of before the weather starts to turn for the worse here in WPA. I noticed that for the very short time I was on Saturday
evening, 160M sounded like 40M as another SKCC member put it. I had one qso on 160M and one on 40M. I am still amazed at how much fun pounding brass
can be. I think that is because it is more involved than any of the other modes. I hope to have more time for next months WES. See you on the radio.

NT9K Operated by: Bill from FL

I had fun Saturday night. I stayed up later than normal and worked more contacts than I usually am able to do the first night. I made a few
contacts Sunday morning early, but felt bad the rest of the day and never got back on the air. Thanks Bob I0QM for a 40 meter QSO and all the others who
worked me. Sorry, I missed so many of you friends this time. Maybe next time, I will be able to do better?
Until then, 73. Bill NT9K..

Stayed on the high end of 40M for all my contacts to get away from the contestors. Enjoyed it as always.

KKØI Operated by: Jack from WI

With the SS contest going on, like many of the others, the contacts were in the old novice portion of 40 meters. I was able to get a few hours
of operation. Thanks to all those who stuck it out. I heard someone QSOing with Bob, IØQM, but couldn't hear him. Thanks again for another WES. 73, jack

KQ1P Operated by: John from ME

It was a challenge to work the sprint around sweepstakes....but we had a rather quiet spot on 40 M above 7.1 MHZ that was quite pleasant
(except for some BCI). I used my old (and cheap) novice straight key. Saturday night I was surprised by I0QM coming in 599. I called him a few times and
then only a few minutes later he was gone for good. I am closing in on putting a letter behind my SKCC number, but I am going to need some better luck
(or is it effort?) making QRP contacts in these sprints! Thanks to all for another fine contest.

73, John

K1PUB Operated by: Chas from MA

Wasn't home Saturday evening and the weather in New England was WAY too nice to be inside playing radio all day Sunday, so after a long walk and
washing the car, I finally got rolling around 2000Z. Once I figured out all the WES activity was at the high end of the CW bands, started making QSOs and
as usual had a good time. Also got to try out my new/old bug, it's gonna take some getting used to!

W1EJ Operated by: Ed from CA

Well I worked some SS and occasionally tuned around the X100 parts of the bands and managed to work some SKCC. I worked about 10X more SS than
SKCC but the SKCC QSOs were much more fun.

WA8OKR Operated by: Bill from OH

Having had a little more time available this month to participate, my QSO count and score improved. I had a lot of fun and enjoyment and expect
the participation and scores to improve.

Thanks to all of the members who joined in and the members who graciously give their time to make this group function.

This was my first time to use the sprint logger. I found it Saturday before noon and installed it a couple of hours before the start. I found it quite
intuitive for a first timer.

Thank you Dick K2RFP for a good coding job. I hope some enhancements are in the works.

It seemed that on the lower part of 40, you couldn't drive a CW (5w) signal in edge wise if you used a 20# sledgehammer. So I contended myself
with the freq's around 7116, and thought I did fairly well. Brion VE3FUJ

NE5DL Operated by: Dave from TX

1st QSO on 15M for a WES. Sweep stakes sure pushed everything up the bands.

NØSSS Operated by: Adam from TX

This was my first contest in amateur radio. It was extremely fun. I got quite a chuckle after completing a QSO with N8BB where grotesque
digital QRM was pouncing on us. The most difficult part of the experience was pounding the brass, I found. My whole arm is very tired now and will need
a some rest. Thanks to all you fine ops I worked, many for the first time.

Well That was great!! Thanks to everybody. For a while on 80 I was busy as a cat watching two mouse holes!! I ran the Icom 703+ at 10 watts
since it was SS weekend. Raised the doublet back up to 85 feet and had a sat on the picnic table. Weather was perfect. Played in the SS a while but soon
switched back to WES. Great to hear everybody and I worked a couple on all bands. Had a great ragchew with Milt K4OSO on 80. Heard some new bug fists out
there too! Bob, I0QM was booming into NC! Thanks Bob. It seemed like everybody was 599+ for a while. Got to make several 160 Q's. Strongest signal was
Larry at 60 over!! N8BB and WA1VIL were both 40 over! I had a ball!!
Now, I can't wait for the Winter DX-Travaganza and the Mystery Sprint!!! BCNU'all there!!

Spent most of the weekend outside getting the beam ready to put up on Monday. The weather was very nice here for Nov.,however,I did manage to get
on and make a few contacts. Thanks to all for the fun!

KD8JHJ Operated by: Mike from OH

Thanks everyone for the qso's and thanks Dick for your behind-the-scenes work. A fun and relaxing event. Not like the mayhem that was on the
low end of the bands.

I used my new Vibroplex original on the air for the first time. Was more than a little nervous but managed to pull off a couple exchanges error free.
Hope my new bug fist sounded OK. I had the straight key in line as well and alternated between the two.

Got a few new numbers and edging closer to Centurion.

Until next time 73 Mike #4877

Only my second WES. I had a great time. It was fun and I got lots of good experience.

WB2SGS Operated by: John from NY

Did Dan (W9DLN) ever get any sleep? He seemed to be making contacts ad nauseum.

VE3WMB Operated by: Michael from ON

Was feeling a bit under the WX so I wasn't up to participating in CW SS, so I thought I would dabble in WES instead. Dug my 30 year old Ten-Tec
Argonaut 509 out of a box in the basement, restrung the dial cord, lubed the PTO and put it back on the air for 4 QSOs at about 2 watts out. Antenna is a
Huster 4BTV vertical and I used both a Hi-MOUND HK-706 straight key as well as my 1940 McElroy Deluxe Bug (with Marblite finish). Casual contesting at
its finest ! Michael VE3WMB (SKCC 120)

did manage to get on, Bob, I0QM had a great 15M signal in the midwest.
Also worked Walt,LW3EX on 15 & 20. Did try 10M several times with zero
results. Thanks to all for the FB contacts....the great weather in the
Kansas City area kept us busy outside...Rick

AF2Z Operated by: Drew from NJ

I guess the CW Sweepstakes keeps WES activity low but there is no reason to sit out the WES due to a big contest going on. I enjoyed working the
upper fringes of the bands, and it was nice to see all the activity on 7100-7120. The more CW across the band, the better! Even with fewer contacts I got
some nice coverage this time, from CA to Italy. Worked Bob I0QM on 40 and 20. Canadian stations are back again: Bob VE3CWU, Pete VE3DVR, Brion VE3FWJ.
And thanks to everyone else: AD5WI, AE4LD, K0LUW, K1PUB, K4CNW, KA1SAW, KA1XC, KA2FIR, KA9DFI, KB4QQJ, KD8JHJ, KK0I, KK7YJ, N0SSS, N2UM, N3MVX, N6CMF,
N8BB, NE5DL, W6UT, W9DLN, WA1AR, WA1VIL, WB2ICQ (sweepstaker), WX2H (non member). My rig: Elecraft K3 at 12 watts; 100' wire up 30'; Junker straight key.

I/N4KGL Operated by: Greg from Italy

Three contacts from here in Vicenza Italy but enjoyed them a great deal. My goal was to get back to the US and I did work North Carolina with
Ontario and England as a bonus. Thanks to Larry AE4LD, Bob VE3CWU, and John G0RDO. I also was heard by John VK4TJ. 73/Ciao

W6SQQ Operated by: Al from CA

Darn.....ran out of time again. Heard lots of sigs on 20M, but only a few could hear me. Gotta work on the antenna system. Haven't touched it
in 15 years, so guess it is overdue for some TLC. Thanks to all who participated. Love this event!

KA9DFI Operated by: Mike from IL

My first spring ... what a hoot.

AD5WI Operated by: Mark from AR

I didn't spend much time in the sprint this month. We had such good weather this weekend that I took advantage and got alot of work done
outside. I did have fun the time I was on the air and worked some new numbers.

Hope everyone had fun and see you next sprint.

73, Mark AD5WI

WA1VIL Operated by: Greg from MA

I thought is was going to be a disaster, going up against the SS, but working I0QM for my first contact said different. Thank you Walt LW3EX and
Jim KK7Y for your persistence on the sked page and Randy KB4QQJ for the signal report here in the soapbox-it must be the "dogleg" in my G5RV that fires
directly your way! Sandy KB3HBD, Sam K5OAI and Adam N0SSS-nice to meet you and will look for you again. Sorry G0RDO and WB2SGS, I just couldn't pull you
out late-thanks for trying and we'll do it next time. 73 to all and CUL!

KA5TJS Operated by: Allen from TX

Boy, that was a rush. Never heard some many stations calling CQ SS. Tried 15 and 10 with no luck. Got them all around 7.114. I like that part of
the band. Not a lot of QRM. Did not get a lot of contact but had fun. Next Month.

Thanks to all and 73's
Allen

AC7T Operated by: Doug from WA

I had fun, as always. Conditions were good Saturday, but participation seemed light. Activity picked up Sunday afternoon, but I didn’t have much
time to operate then. I made all my contacts, except a single 160 meter QSO on 7114 KHz or so. Welcome KF7ATL, and thanks for the QSO and my first SKCC
UT contact.

N4RE Operated by: Rick from NC

Fun as always but very few SKCC sigs were over S-9. The strongest sigs were from those SS guys. SS always brings out the dedicated contest
veterans filling the airway with our favorite music - CW.
TKS for the WES contacts,
Rick - N4RE

K4UFT Operated by: Ted from SC

5 Watts from IC-7000 with ChiCom Army key and home-brew vertical.

One contact at 2:00 AM Sunday morning. The rest of the time when I was able to listen intermittently, the bands were covered up by the CWSS stations.
Didn't hear any of our SKCC gang. 15M was really hot into upstate SC ... maybe prop is picking up slightly ... dare we hope?

K2RFP Operated by: Dick from NY

Thanks to Dan, W9DLN for giving me a second chance after my 900 mw couldn't give him
full copy. Made it later at 3 w.
Hats off to Bob, I0QM for a job well done. Got him on 40 m with my 3 w.
73, Dick.

A few hours earlier I operated as W2RC for Radio Central Day

N8BB Operated by: Werner from MI

Another fine and easy going contest and really enjoyed some fun with everyone. No pushing and screaming even though it looked like we were on
the verge of getting pushed off the end of the world.
Also thanks to all those fine ears out there, my qrp points were really smoking and getting ever so close to 1xqrp and 2xqrp. Thanks to all.

Werner N8BB

K8JD Operated by: John from MI

All but one QSO made on 160M.
I only had about 1.5 hours to participate this time.

WA6L Operated by: John from CA

Tough weekend! The CW sweepstakes did not leave much room for us little pistols, so all my QSOs were out of the normal CW band. I worked for
just an hour or so. It was fun, but I just didn't have the patience. Thanks to those I worked, and I will listen for you next time! 73, John, WA6L

WØSZV Operated by: Eldon from MO

Tried, but too many contests going on and all too fast. Maybe next month

G4LMW Operated by: Rob from England

Only managed a few short sessions this time around, but try not to miss them.
