Rainy weekend and band was good. Worked mostly 40 mtrs. 20 was kind of slow. Had a lot of fun. This is my most QSO's ever. Still don't have the magic 100 yet.

73's Allen

N9FC Operated by: John

Very bad condx.

WA9ZES Operated by: Walt

The bands didn't seem to be all that great but still managed some good contacts and new numbers for the log. Thanks to all who added to my points total, it was my pleasure to have worked you.

My most memorable school experience was graduating from college after my high school teacher told me I would never accomplish anything in life. I hated high school, but LOVED college - degree in history, BTW. 73, Walt

KB9MLE Operated by: Dave

Really liked allied health sciences in college. Anatomy & physiology was my favorite, followed by microbiology and physical assessment in nursing. Also enjoyed psychological statictics and health and wellness. Lots of hard work, but enjoy every minute of it. Catch everyone next month.
73,
Dave

N9QU Operated by: Leo

Great fun as always. Thanks to all. Favorite subject in school was recess until 8th grade and then girls. However my best academic results were in math.

73 es c u next month.

KI6BHB Operated by: Dave

Was great to get Walt, LW3EX, on 15 meters once again. Thanks for another fun WES!

KC4GIA Operated by: Mark

First time on air with a bug. Thanks to the first couple OM's - had a bit of an adjustment issue. (The bug fell apart! Bottom screw had backed off.) I wondered why it was getting a bit sloppy on the dits. Go ahead and laugh - I did. Not much op time but still had fun. Thanks SKCC for a fun event!

N2JNZ Operated by: George

Had fun with limited time !! Using 700 mw here !! Thanks to Tom , W4CU and Dave , NE5DL and of course Randy , KB4QQJ and Walt , W5ALT for some nice long distace contacts on 40 meters !!! As far as school goes I graduated in 1976 went to work at the same school in 1980 and still there !!! Thanks for a the wonderful ears out there !!!

AB8FJ Operated by: Ted

Very enjoyable WES. Ten-Tec Argonaut V at 5W to the end fed random wire antenna. Key used was my Bencher RJ-2. All QSOs in the old Novice sub-band on 40 meters.

WA1AR Operated by: Alan

Got to try out a new old bug. Early 1930s. Lots of tweeking but eventually got it going smooth. Dirty contacts and screws made some scratchy sending for a while. Lots of family activity and guest took out a big chunk of time during the day. I did OK at the beginning and the end.

KØLUW Operated by: Russ

A tough sprint at my QTH. The AC line noise was terrible. Most of the time it was at S7-S9. I could not hear many of the qrp guys. But still a lot of fun.

W4CU Operated by: Tom

Had a lot of fun as always. From here, it looks like Science Rules. Thanks to all for the QSOs. vy 73 - Tom

K5ENA Operated by: John

Really enjoyed the Sprint. Worked old friends and made new ones.

73,

KDØEPN Operated by: Lori

My first sprint, and everyone was very nice, and patient with my novice CW.

Around 1956 I transferred to a new High school that was just built, Gardena High School in California.
The new electric shop class I attended had not had any supplies delivered as yet.
To keep the class going for a month or so until the supplies arrived, my teacher had us all copy Morse code paper tapes from an Instructograph code sender.
Almost everyone hated it except me. I eventually became a radioman for my four-year tour in the Navy. And, a friend recently gave me an original Instructograph.

KCØEEP Operated by: Tori

Very good back-to-school idea! Thanks!

KD6HTN Operated by: Kate

Well, this was my first CW contest & my first contest at all other than Field Day. Not easy for me to "get a word in edgewise", but it's a start. Looking forward to next month already.

K8JD Operated by: John

Squeezed in a few hours for WES, Sunday mid day in a very busy weekend, between two birthdays and installing a stacked washer/dryer combo.
80 was dead so I actually managed to get about half my QSOs on 20M, where my antenna sitution is minimal to get out of the township..There sure is a different crowd to work on 20 ! :)

W5ALT Operated by: Walt

Well this was a fun WES. In defiance of the weather forecast, the rain stayed away and it was no too bad, other than some high QRN levels.

My most memorable high school experiences were cutting classes. I guess I ought not to say too much about that. I'm not sure if there's a statute of limitations or not!

73,
Walt, W5ALT

While math was my favorite especially trigonometry, so logical, but what stuck with me most was English Lit. I still can quote Shakespeare stuff from Macbeth and Merchant of Venice.

Hey, that was fun! The bands weren't perfect, but were sure better here than in recent months. I couldn't find a SOC on 40 meters to save my life, and only 2 of them on 20 meters. That could mean SOC was not so popular . . . or else a bunch of us added up character weight before choosing a subject.

Here's a good example of why MAT was not a good fit for me: There I was, Junior year of HS and the first pop quiz in Advanced Algebra, just 33 questions. Once we all finished, Teach told us to hand our papers one row left and two seats back for scoring (no honor system in that classroom). After Teach called out the correct answers, she told us to multiply the number correct by three. Brief pause, then she called for the scores by name, "Allen?" (That's me, always first for the bad stuff, but never the good.)

From behind me to the left, I hear a bemused feminine voice, "Twenty seven?" Short pause, then Teach sez, "No Joan, please understand that I want Allen's correct answers multiplied by three. Now calculate it and give me Allen's test score." Long pause, then Joan sez with great finality, "Twenty seven."

Was out of town all weekend and just got back in time for 1 QSO-Thanks Tom W4CU!

KB4QQJ Operated by: Randy

Great googly moogly!! Bands were great, WX was great and I had a new rig and antenna to play with!!! How much better could it get?? LOL I put both cheeks into it this time. With the exceptions of a 3 hour detour to hang an antenna for Kevin, K4GEK, I played the whole WES. Took the HB-1A, 703+ and Eagle One vertical to a 750 foot hill with clear horizon in all directions. The HB-1A is a keeper. Took the NT9K cootie, and TAC 510 bug to the field. Most fun contact was with Walt, W5ALT. I was mobile going back to my portable site!!
Strongest signal was Bill, NR9B at 40 over! Never found the Walt, VE3HFE. No sked page out portable and I sure missed it. A special thanks to Andy UU1CC, ( a real surprise) Walt, LW3EX and Rob, G4LMW for my DX contacts! It was like I could do no wrong. I love it when the bands come together. New personal best score for me, so thanks to all that made it happen!! 73 and see you in SKS.

Enjoyed this WES as ever. It's always fun to get back into the groove with a hand key. Used a new one that I picked up at a hamfest recently. I call it my "Harley" key cuz it's "black 'n' chrome". Sharp looking key but there are no manufacturing or other markings on it of any kind. I included a picture. Anyone know where it originated? Email me at KJ4WD@ARRL.NET. I entered this WES needing 10 more Centurion/Tribune QSO's to earn my Tribune. Rick, K0KEX, put me over the top. THANK YOU, RICK! Thanks to all for a fun time no matter the poor band condx in the southeast. 73 Carl KJ4WD

Been planning for a week to work the WES. So much for plans. Afer completing Mrs.SQQ's Honey Doo list, I thought I had 30 minutes to work the sprint. Wrong again. Actual operating time; about 12 minutes. 4 contacts in a 24 hour event. I am embarassed to put up my numbers, but what the heck, it's all in good fun. Maybe next month. Thanks to all who participated.

I was a voracious reader in High School, with a particular interest in history and biographies. In my senior year, I was reading a book a day, speed over 1000 wpm. At 72 years, I have slowed down some.

Al

Only had an hour and a half to play. Other stuff going on this weekend. Got up early this morning at 4AM and worked three members on 80M. The new 80M loop I put up this summer seems to play much better than the old OCF dipole. And it's a lot quieter too. I didn't need the DX Engineering 4 square receiving antenna and will probably sell it. The rest of the time spent on 20M but had to go just as things were heating up. See you in the SKS soon. I want to expecially thank Randy KB4QQT for taking the time to explain the subject designation to me thanks Randy next time I will read the rules a little better.
Im looking foreward to great fun and more contest.

The photo is of my old School Master, John, G4DXI in the school physics laboratory.

John was my Physics Master and one morning he brought in his Heathkit line-up to show us at school.

That was it, I was hooked. I was 14 at the time but a few years later I had the "Full" licence.

I still have a monthly Sked with John but he has been unable to make them recently as he is concentrating on his brave fight against cancer.

Good Luck John

Spent most of my time on 40m but band was very noisy here, made a few contacts on 80M. Worked a few on 20m. I also went out for a short drive with the xyl and a bit of shopping. Late in the day spent some time on 40m again.
The bands were not the best but the WES in always a lot of fun, worked K0LUW Russ always has a big signal.

Bands were fair at best here, busy weekend, but was able to be a few hours in. Liked the subject idea. Thanks for the contacts folks!

Didn't put much effort in this one, sorta reminds me of school. One more year in high school & I would have had to pay tuition. When on, I was searching for Cs that I cud help to T and I found 3 but see I missed 2 more. Was also looking for new skcc dx & snagged YU7AE & M0GGK. Nice fun, enjoyed Andys sked page & enjoyed seeing the school subjects. cul

I was selected as teacher for a day in my high school physics class and I did a lesson on satellite communications. I recorded an OSCAR pass and plotted the locations for each end of the QSO's. It was great fun for me, maybe not the class!

It's been nice working with many new stations during the sprint.

ICOM ic-735, HM amplifier 3 x GU-50 (250W), Vertical on 40m, V-beam on 20m, MT50 key (DDR Junker)

SCI TEAM RULEZZ!

I did not have too much time for the WES - just a few short periods. In the early hours, I found a few who did not know about the additional exchange.

My most memorable High School experience was my 25th reunion.

Had good fun in the Weekend Sprint. Worked 40m, mostly above 7100 KHz.

I only had a short time on Sunday to operate but had a lot of fun never the less. I’ll miss the October and November sprints because it’s time to go surf fishing for blues and strippers along the coast of Rhode Island. I need to put a rig into my truck. See you after the fall run…..73, George

Another great WES, It was a busy weekend here so activity was limited.
School memories, I went to a vocational school where I took a 3 year Electrical
training program. We had a Tesla coil machine, Van De Graff generators, and
all sorts of good stuff to learn about. As electrical students we were also part of the stage crew (sound & lighting) for all the school programs during the year. Whatgreat fun it was while learning the trade. Central Technical in KC was higher education in electronics. Color TV & Studio lab was great, I still have contact with school mates.
Some are hams that I hope join the SKCC group soon….73’s from Platte County, Mo.

In school my best friend and I in London would play havoc with our classroom experiments at the teachers expense. My friend became an atomic physicist and is now in Canada and I became an electronics engineer now in Texas.

Busy weekend and no time to participate. I had to stop and read the rules to see what was going on with SCI, Lit, and etc. Then I gave out 3 or 4 Lit's before I had to qrt. I plan not to miss the next WES bingo. Looks like it would be fun.

When I started high school I was on track for a general diploma
and aspired to be like the singing Texaco guys of the late forties
and early fifties. Although I could not sing, I knew I could check
dipsticks and wash windshields as good as the next guy.

Some time during my tenth year my math teacher saw something and
convinced me to double up and take all the advanced math coures
the school offered. Wow, that was something!

At graduation I felt ten feet tall taking the school's math award
as the ivy league college bound kids looked on. I bet that math
teacher felt good. My payback was to become a teacher myself in
hopes of inspiring others as my math teacher did for me.

There was a fairly steady stream of contacts here on 80m Saturday evening but not much on 20 or 40. Sunday morning was catch as catch can, 80/40/20. Nil heard on 10/15. Couldn't stick around for the grand finale... The only surprise was Phil N6CMF in CA who had a pretty good sig on 80m till past 07:15 EDT... Got seven C's this time, a lot more than usual; good to hear 'em... As for school- never was big on it; always had to hit the books to learn anything. Sure were a lot of SCI people out there; guess that's to be expected for ham radio ops... My rig: Elecraft K3 running 12 watts; 100' wire up 30'; Junker straight key.

Token effort as weekend consumed by other activities.

had a few qsos where they didn't name a favorite topic...managed about 2 1/2 hours, was great fun. Found a few non math, non science.. I liked math and science, but flunked out of engineering school. Can't pledge a fraternity and not do homework!

Thanks to all for making this another fun event. A special thanks to KK5NA, K7IE, and WB6UBK for giving me the last 3 contacts I needed to complete my SKCC Centurion application.

Science was the number one subject I worked, followed by Math, which is what I expected from a bunch of hams. Very few of the other subjects were worked. I would venture to say that a survey of today's high school students would not be this top heavy in Science and Math, which does not speak well for the state of our school system.

NT9K Operated by: Bill

Even though I didn't have many contacts and didn't get to work Walt VE3HNE, I still had fun. Tom W4CU had the biggest signal at 40 over S9 and the loudest that I have ever heard him. I didn't get to work any new members this time, just old friends. I used all of my keys for at least 1 QSO. Rig was Kenwood TS-870 @ 100 watts into 40 meter full wave delta loop and Cushcraft MA5B mini beam.

I liked this theme, nice change of pace. It was tough picking my subject as I didn't like school and skipped more than I attended. I ended up choosing SOC, because they always had detention in the social studies teachers classroom. I made terrible grades. I ended up going to college and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I guess paying for it made the difference?

I can't wait until the October WES, Craftsman Special/SPAR homebrew key sprint.
Until then, 73. Bill NT9K..

I didn't like school very much until I went to college.

Favorite subject was Science, but got better marks in Typing! (Had something to do with the teacher, I think...)
Not enough time to work the entire WES, but happy to be able to work the stations that I did work.

Many thanks to the folks that provide us with good operating activities like this.

Looking forward to the next one!

Limited time to operate this month, things seemed really slow during the day on Sunday. Lots of local QRN too. But as usual I enjoyed it.

Favorite classes in High School were science (physics, chemistry) followed closely by music classes and activities. No surprise that I went on to become an EE and am still, 45 years later, active in music.
