N9QU Operated by: Leo

Lots of fun as always. Bert W5ZR and Mark AD5WI were more than 50f my contacts. Worked each of them on 15m, 20m &40m. Thanks to all. Hpe c u all next month. 73

W4FOA Operated by: Tony

Nice to work quite a few relatively new SKCC members and of course always nice to run into old friends. I was using the venerable Drake 2B/2BQ receiver and an Eico 720 transmitter with a Heathkit HG-10B VFO. Found 20 and 40 to be full of SKCC activity.

NE5DL Operated by: Dave

Fun to work UU1CC....down in the noise. No boat anchor here just a K3

KX9DX Operated by: Rick

My First SKCC Sprint , This was loads of fun ,I'll be back for more. Both 40 Meters and 20 Meters were poor here in the midwest.
Thanks to everyone
Rick KX9DX --

W7YSB Operated by: Eldon

QRP on 20m Sunday afternoon was pathetic in AZ. Thanks to all who copied my QRP signal.
73 Eldon

K5ENA Operated by: John

Made contacts on 15, 20, and 40. Always enjoy our Sprints.

73, John, K5ENA

KØLUW Operated by: Russ

Lots of activity this sprint - that's great. Could not operate as much as I would have liked..The boss has a lot of family activities planned this weekend. Always a lot of fun.

WA1AR Operated by: Alan

With rain most of the day I had time to play a lot of radio. Used a mix of radios. On 80M I used a home brew transmitter made about 4 years ago. Basic xtal oscillator and buffer to a pair of 807s. Running about 600VDC plate voltage. On 40M I use a HW16 and HG10. FT450 the rest of the way. The HW16 has the most annoying sidetone, a neon lamp oscillator, sounds like choking a chipmonk. Bands in general were good. Had 40 Qs before I retired for the evening. Changed bugs a few times as the Blue Racer kept getting the scratchies. I got enough CW to last me for at least a week.

Alan WA1AR

Home brew pair 807s used on 80M.

AB1BW Operated by: George

WOW, what a great sprint. Had contacts on 15 through 80 meters and worked most of the DX stations. The bands were good to us this time and I hope they continue to be. Long live CW. 73, George

N5LUL Operated by: Brad

Had a great time once again! Rig for 20M was a Yaesu FT-920 and Mosley TA33 at 40'. Rig for 40M was a Yaesu FT-857D and dipole at 35'. Keys used were a Vibroplex "Know-Code" and also the trusty old Winslow. Sure ready to try things again next month.

NØLT Operated by: John

Was a lot of fun. QRP so appreciate those who came back to me which was 100%
TU, hope to cu agn.
John

W4KRN Operated by: Karen

Was hoping to work a lot more stations, but band condx poor on my end. 20m seemed fairly good, but my A4S yagi is down for tower maintenance. Used my Begali Spark key, easy on the wrist. Highlight was working Damon W4HDM mobile in the middle of IL on 7.114. His signal was 579 to 599. Really didn't hear that many stations calling WES on the bands. Thanks to all I worked...73

This was mu first SKCC event in over two months due to having to move twice in six weeks. I forgot how much fun these events are. Now that I am settled in (only have to put up my 6M dipole) I will have more time to work some radio fun.
Thanks to all who worked me. CU in the next SKCC event.

Another fun WES; nice to hear a lot of new members participating.

NT9K Operated by: Bill

This was the best sprint in a long time as far as propagation and participation goes. Thanks to all the DX. In 24 hours, I made it to DX15. I put in beau coup hours this time. I only stopped to sleep for 4 hours and a few breaks during the day Sunday.

I was a bit disappointed. I heard 3 different members start calling cq on top of dx stations without once calling QRL? Makes it frustrating when you've been digging out a dx station for half an hour and then someone does that. I did hear some great signals and excellent fists. I enjoyed meeting some new members too! Nice to have 10 and 15 meters open. I had lots of contacts on the high bands.

Until next time, 73. Bill NT9K - SKCC 1926T..

thanks to the ops who were patient with me this time around. my "bell got rung" with a concussion (a few days ago), as well as busting up my right arm. i couldn't concentrate OR even adjust the bug right for damaged wrist. all-in-all, it was perseverance that won out (even a scrambled brain over body), hi! had fun, last evening. today. i just laid out on the couch and didn't move. however, looks like a good time was had by all. anyway, thanks for the great time on this end!

75 watts to a vertical from an IC7000.... all bands.
Very enjoyable WES.

UU1CC Operated by: Andy

As for me, it was a best WES ever - good band condx, a lot of DX's, interesting theme..
I've started at 40m using my 6E5 rock-bound exciter, three-tube amplifier (150w) and quarter-wave vertical, got 7 QSO's at 7034kc and a lot of pleasure - it was very close to pre-WWII transatlantic contesting, thought.
When 40m become short, I switched magic-eye tube off so all of 20m contacts has been made using ic-735 and V-beam antenna, my usual set.
George N2JNZ and Rick K0KEX called me using QRP and it was very interesting to heard such low power from the other side of Atlantic ocean.
See you all in di extravaganza!

Good fun, good experience for a new time ham (6 months), and low time cw op. All S&P and spotting on K3UK, lots of listening!!! Can't hear much with a "sloping" dipole at 15ft on 40m and a makeshift vertical on 20m. 73, Bob VE3CWU

Had another enjoyable evening and early morning. Was very pleased to work PA3CLQ on 40M early this morning. I finally gave up as chest was hurting. Worked more then I had planned. Did pickup 4 New C towards X6. Hope to do better next WES.

AF2Z Operated by: Drew

The bands didn't seem especially active but I had a lot of free time for this contest (and no thunderstorms for a change!) so, got more contacts than usual. Worked 10m through 80m. 20m was busiest this time. 15m had some strong signals but there was not much action there. Had one DX QSO, tnx to Jose XE1YJL. Made a lot of multi-band contacts, including Bill NT9K, who I've not worked for awhile. Thanks Curt WA2JSG for the 10m QSO-- short distance AND weak signals. My rig: Elecraft K3 @ 12 watts; 90' endfed wire antenna; Junker straight key.

Sorry, no bonus for this guy... Crystal radios are solid state!

Another fun WES. It's was great to see the bands in good shape. Looks like the DX awards are off to a good start too. I'm looking forward to next weekends DX-Travaganza!! I'll be looking for some fine DX then. Ran this entire WES with my HW-16 and the few remaining crystals I have. Strongest signal was Joe, K4NVJ at full scale on the HW-16 meter!! Great signal. A hearty "Welcome Back" to George, N2JNZ. It was great to hear you on the air again om. I didn't get to work Dennis, W6UT, but it was fantastic to hear his signal back on the air as well.

Only a few non USA staions were on the sked page.
During day time here in the Netherland we have had very bad conditions to the USA and other DX on 15 and 20 meter band.
Working with a HF6-V antenna in my backyard between buildings and trees and 8 wires as counterpoise on grondlevel, a poor ant situation. My home brew hacksaw blade sideswiper key works great.
See eventual http://sideswipernet.googlepages.com/home.
It was a nice frendly WES, not like other contests with high speed and no space for a few nice words, I like the WES very much and thank to be the special WES station for june 2009. 73, Jan Pieter Oelp 'JaPiO' PA3CLQ #2765. BTW only 72 to go for C

I put down "all solid state" assuming you are asking for the transceiver only.
The amp has final tubes in it. FT1000MP, Titan, 1.5 KW output, TH6DXX, zepp, dipole. Very enjoyable SKS with stations contacted on 40 through 10M. More DX than I have ever worked in a SKCC activity, though many did not have SKCC numbers. Band conditions must have been pretty good. Didn't work 80 this sprint due to QRN and the fact that the calls kept coming on 40M. See you all next month. 73, John, K4BAI.

KQ1P Operated by: John

Oh my, one contact and several sorry just can't copy you replies! Is it QRP or just life at the bottom of the sunspot cycle? Still it was a fun contest and we will try again next time. 73 to all.

Off to a late start I was pleased to find 20 meters open in the mid west. Stan ZL2BLQ, Andy UU1CC, and John VK2TJ had good signals on 20/40 Saturday evening. Sunday was about the same with good conditions, worked 20 with a few Q's on 15, Walt LW3EX was strong in Missouri on 15 meters. Around 2200 UTC, Jan PA3CLQ was heard in Missouri. My 5 watts was heard but not strong enough for a QSO. Thanks to Jan for being the "Special Member" for the event, it was good to hear Jan. Towards the end of the WES, 20 meters went long, I found Russ K0LUW with a big signal on 80 meters. Thanks to all for listening up for QRP signals. The only vintage gear used here was the WWII bug and it's operator....Great event...!!!

On Friday evening I "warmed up" my old Heathkit HW-100 and made one contact on
20m. I thought - this is great. I was away Sunday morning and hoped to make
some more contacts in the afternoon. Unfortunately all I heard on 20 and 40
was mostly static. We had lots of lightning and some rain in the area. The
sprint was a great chance to get the HW-100 on the air again but I would have
been happier with a few more contacts. 73 - Brian

Great idea, and great Sprint! Couldn't sit in front of the rig for the whole time, but sure enjoyed the time that I did spend there! The antenna rotor decided to have a mind of its own, so I don't know where the beam was pointing half the time. Had to use 'ear-reconing'!

Looking forward to hearing more of Bert, W5ZR- he was soooo hard to pick out!

OK. Enuff of the kidding! 73 all. Glad to work the ones I did.

Poor conditions poor on 40/20 once again, nothing heard on 15m. Thanks to Jack K4CNW for the repeats to complete our QSO, gave me a new SKCC state (SC). Picked up 2 C/Ts towards my Tx2, geting very close.

This is my first SKCC event. I enjoyed it very much, but I had very poor propagation. I only QSOed on 15 and 20m with very weak signals.
Working Condx: TS-480SAT@50W, MiniG5RV@5m and Himound HK-707.
I look forward to next weekend SKCC DX Contest.

I was busy the entire sprint but the last 2 hours. Got on 40m as it had the most action and had absolutely no luck for the first 40 minutes or so. It was very sad, but I finally had some luck and made 6 total in 2 hours. I matched my NAQCC rate but I used 20w this time around. Rig was TT516 and keys were: Soviet TK, CLT 26001-B, and Vibroplex Blue Racer(1941 vintage). Antenna was the 3 story gutter downspout.

Sorry for the poor fist. Had to send right handed and I'm a lefty. Medications from my recent heart attack are affecting my leg and arm muscles. Left arm strength and co-ordination are very poor, thus the lousy right-hand sending.

I was on for about 5 hours on Sunday running 10 watts portable from Dothan, AL. I used a Par 10/20/40 End Fed antenna. All but one contact was on 20 meters. Thanks to all!

N4RE Operated by: Rick

QRN at the beginning of the WES made for a dismal start. Fortunately, it died down Sunday, yielding pretty good band condx. It still kept me off 80 meters but Sunday afternoon on 20 meters was a blast. I did hear PA3CLQ but QSB took him out before I could even call him.

TKS & 73, Rick

K4UFT Operated by: Ted

Didn't get on 'til late Sunday. Condx poor in Upstate SC. Only 2 contacts one on 15M and one on 20M. Heard a couple calling on 10M, but No Joy. Good to hear 10M and 15M openings. 10 Watts from Icom 703+ with ChiCom Army K5 key and home brew vertical.

Made seven CW contacts in the VHF contest ... five on 6M and two on 2M. Unfortunately, none were SKCC.

I worked portable from near Burkesville, KY using a portable Marconi with 8 radials. My power ranged from 5 to 30 watts. I used the straight key that I took my Novice exam with over 51 years ago. I was sitting out on a ridge looking mostly East. The bugs tried to take over but I won out! My marine battery weighs about 65 pounds and is not easy to lug around so put it on a small cart and saved my back. It was lots of fun.

Band was horrible - no sunspots and low Solar Wind Speed. I worked 3 times as long on this sprint as in my first sprint last month and made 1 fewer contacts. QRN was really bad as well. Still, it was fun to try and I picked up some more numbers. 38 to go for my "C". Hoping to have a Hallicrafters HT-40/SX140 by SKS.

Rig for WES - used TS520 as Tempo 1 replaced by Century 21

I worked portable from near Burkesville, Ky, using a very portable Marconi antenna with 8 radials, and from 5 to 30 Watts on 20 meters. The key I used was by MESCO, the one I took my Novice test with over 51 years ago. The marine battery I used weighed about 65 pounds so I lugged it around on a small cart. It was lots of fun and since I managed to work G4LMN on 30 watts, it was a DXpedition!

KC2KY Operated by: Neil

I needed that Danforth boat anchor shown in the picture to keep the HW-101 from flying off the table with all the great signals I was hearing on 20 meters Saturday night. It was a pleasure copying PA3CLQ's glowbug on 20 meters.
The HW-101 has 20 tubes but, alas, there is one transistor in the VFO so I can't claim the full 25 point bonus for using an all tube rig!
I was really surprised a how well the HW-101 receiver played. I A-B'ed the HW-101 along with my K3 receiver with a few of the weaker signals and the HW-101 heard just about every CW signal that the K3 could hear.
I only got to put in s few hours but I had a great time. Thank you to all who participated and made it such a fun experience. Can't wait for the next boat anchor sprint.
