Soapbox

KE4KY Operated by: Glenn Petri
I was able to put in only a few hours on this one.

For the summer, the Sprints during the week will get more of my attention.

Thanks to all.

W4FOA Operated by: Tony
A fun event, as always. Good fists and some very loud signals. Lots of QRP activity noted with very readable signals. Congrats to the QRP'ers!

N9QU Operated by: Leo
Rough conditions! Even the usual big guns were rough copy at my QTH. And yes, my wire is still in the air. At least it was the usual great fun.

KH6OZ Operated by: George
6 contacts on 20m and 2 on 40m. I have not heard a signal on 15M in weeks. I had a good time Qrp again. 73's

N6WK Operated by: Gordon
This is my First time using QRP.
It is much easier to be heard when i am QRO.. Hi Hi..
I had a blast.

KC4ZA Operated by: Al
Quite a challenge to work QRP in this contest. Had a great time though and managed to work operations around Mother's Day festivities! Look forward to more of these.

k9dth Operated by: Ron
Lots of storms in the area saturday nite. Lots of QRN. Had to unplug several times but really had fun. Worked Alaska and Hawaii on 20

WD5ABC Operated by: Kerry
I only had time to make 2 contacts, I used my 1w RXTX SDR radio for both of them. As far as I know, W5ZR and W4FOA have the best ears on the planet!
73,
Kerry, WD5ABC

WB8OGK Operated by: Bruce
Wow, that was a blast. The QRP theme really made it interesting, especially with the highly "interesting" band conditions this time around. Man, I don't think my ears will be the same after listening to all that hash in my cans all day. Ouch!

I got to use my new Hi-Mound HK-802 key for the first time. Nice key! Very smooth and has a good feel. I need to rig my seat higher to get a better arm position - gotta send Euro-style with this key. Still, very comfortable. I think the best description of its action is "dignified" or "genteel". I feel somewhat unworthy, like when a butler looks at me disdainfully with his gooseberry eyes.

Thanks to all who helped make this so much fun. Congrats to Randy for being a stalwart op on K9SKC during these horrible conx and stuck with 5 watts.

W6UT Operated by: Dennis
Didn't get to spend but a short period of time on air last nite and today. Mostly worked 20M. Will be operating from cabin (Lassen County), battery power, from May 21st to Sept. 6th. No internet so no Sked page. Quiet conditions though. Will be looking for some Qs from there. Plan on working WES & SKS each month.

KG4W Operated by: Ed
Started Sunday am & was QRP for 2 or 3 qsos & then went to 100W. At first, I thought WES had been cancelled but then as time went on things picked up. Thunder/lightning here last 3 hrs. Till nx time dit-dit.

K0LUW Operated by: Russ Halbert
Poor band conditions and lots of QRN made for disappointing showing. Maybe conditions will be better next sprint. I had a constant 5s unit noise level on all bands not counting lightning noise about 50f the sprint. This made copy of the Qrp stations next to impossible.

K8JD Operated by: John
Only had 3 brief periods of operating time, about 1 3/4 hours total. Mother's day activities were priority. Too much storm static to get much on 80 and nil on 160 this time.
Still had fun.

K6JF Operated by: Jim
Six new states (total:25) and 17 new numbers (total:54). May have my Centurion by summer's end. 20M was the pits and 40M was OK after 0200Z. Even picked up some rare European action on 20m at 0400 working into Central Russia! Looking forward to June's WES!

KC6ZZT Operated by: Joe
Had a great time, despite much unbearable QRN/static.
Some attempted QSOs were bashed by QRM from other contests.

Thanks to all who hung in there!

AB3AP Operated by: Mike
After Mother's Day, yard work, and cleaning up after a family dinner, I spent about 3 hours total on the sprint and was alternating between straight key and bug. "And a great time was had by all!"

K6FFY Operated by: Nick
I'm looking forward to future Sprints as the solar conditions improve.

K5GQ Operated by: Mark Tyler
15 minutes on Saturday night and
30 minutes before the end.

Long way to go to become Tribune at this rate.
Til next time.

WB8SDA Operated by: Carmen
My first SKCC WES. I'm also getting used to using N1MM logger using a general logging option. I haven't worked many contests of any kind in my 34 years on the air. This was fun. Maybe next time I'll try QRP. I love cw and this gave me a no pressure chance to work in a contest environment. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one.

k9skc/kb4qqj Operated by: Randy
Wow again! Not a stellar performance due to tornados and lightening causing power outage with 6 hours left to go.BUT the most fun yet! I really enjoyed operating the K9SKC club call. It was great. Many Thanks to all those that pulled my signal out of the mud. It seemed easy to work DX at will but could not get the mid west. I Tried to get KL8DX but he just couldn't pull me out..Thanks for the great effort though. I could hear John G0DRO 579 forever but could not get back to him. Great job by everyone and Glad to see the QRP stations sticking it out. This was a tuff time for QRP. Just my luck. Like fishing.."should have been here yesterday"..hi hi. Beat fun yet. 73 es BCNU

K4BAI Operated by: John
Only a short time to be QRV after return from an out of town trip for a state tennis tournament. FT1000MP, Alpha 78, 1 KW, TH6DXX, zepp, dipole. Apologies to several that I was unable to log due to weak signals, power line noise, and QRN from the thunderstorms that passed through here in the early morning. Hope to work many of you from Jamaica as 6Y/K4BAI May 21-26 and as 6Y1V with three other ops in CQ WPX CW Contest. 73, John, K4BAI. SKCC #3280; NAQCC #644

W5ZR Operated by: Bert
Only got to spend 4 hours im the WES. Great fun; but a lot of the QRP sigs were very hard to copy. Condx as bad as ever - where are the sunspots?

KC0RSX Operated by: Len
When the bands open up, this will be a REAL blast!

K9MMS Operated by: Gary
Poor band conditions, and many stations running QRP, made it difficult to complete some of the QSOs. QSB on weak signals required many requests for repeats. Thanks to all who persisted to complete difficult QSOs. My apologies for QSOs lost. Thanks for all the QSOs. Thanks for the K9SKC, 2-band, 2-fer QSOs Randy.

Operating time limited to Saturday night and few hours near the end on Sunday.

I put the Vibroplex, Original bug back into service after about 22 years in storage. It still needs more refurbishing. My apologies for the sometimes, scratchy contacts. Alternated between brass Skillman SK and bug.

73, Gary

K5EWJ Operated by: Cookie
I couldn't participate much this time and conditions were not so good. I did manage a few contacts, but not many new stations. I suggest that the QRP theme be reserved for winter when the bands are quieter and QRP stations can be heard better.

Vibroplex Zephyr Bug

KL8DX Operated by: Phil
I spent most of the weekend operating the VOLTA RTTY contest so I did not even get started on SKS until my first QSO with Bert W5ZR, at 1635z on Sunday. I had a RTTY sked during the contest at 2200 hrs, so that took me away from the radio for about 50 minutes.

I did not even consider running low power. 20 meters was horrible to say the least with lots of deep QSB on signals all weekend. But, I wanted to get on and work some new numbers and hopefully give a state multiplier for those in the contest.

I had a few non SKCC QSO's which I ended up chatting for a bit. I was not too concerned as my entry was going to basically be non-competitive, due to the few hours I only had to operate. I hand logged everything so when I heard a callsign, I would have to flip through my notebook to see if I had worked that person.

With the bands, I was happy to work back into MA, PA, WV and VA. Made it down into TX, LA, and AL, for the deep south contacts. My last QSO was with KH6G for HI!! So, even with a poor band, I made it around the country pretty well.

Lots of great fists. Thanks for the contacts and I am hopeful my schedule will allow more SKS contest QSO's.

K1ULF Operated by: Ulf
As usual I forgot to check the calendar and started late.
I hears K2RFP calling CQ, Missed the SKS part so I tried to rag chew with him. I was a bit surprised when he was not sending RST and kept it short. After clicking around on the band scope I found someone calling CQ SKS so I figured it out at that time and turned off my PA to continue barefoot.:-) (Dick, I never counted you on my end since I wanted to be in the 1W group)

I follow the mailing list but there is not enough "anticipation" building on there to remind me :-)

I still had fun even if I only got a few QSO'n Most noteworthy for me is that got my first QSO on 20m with Cookie on 1W. (I typically have the 40/80m Softrock plugged in since I rarely use the radio before 10pm.)

WB9CAC Operated by: Bill
Didn't realize contest was on. Gave it a try (2 qso's ). Was fun

K1NV Operated by: Jon
I could only operate Saturday evening for a short time, but managed a few contacts on 20 and 40 meters in spite of very noisy band conditions and TTY stations around 7.050 MHz.

VE7NSD had an outstanding QRP 1.5W signal with his 500 ft. loop at 50 feet (599 here in Nevada). XE2ML made it with 1.5W also.

Tnx to all that listened hard through the heavy QRN. CU for the Weeknight Sprint.

WB9FMC Operated by: Kurt
Fun sprint: Only worked last two hours or so...

WU7R Operated by: Ci
I was only able to work for a short time on Sunday afternoon mobile from my Dodge truck using a Yaesu FT-857 with an Outbacker and a Navy Flameproof key. As always, a fun event...73, Ci

K8NB Operated by: Noel
Only had a little bits of time on Sunday to work this one, still had fun. Worked mostly at 5 watts but did a couple QSO at 1/2 watt.

KL7GLL Operated by: Gene
Although band conditions were noisy, there were some great QRP signals -- N6WK, KI6BHB, WB8OGK, among others. Also nice to work newer Members, such as Mike, AI5RF, SKCC # 4419. First hours Saturday night were especially good, until band went sour here about 0300 UTC. Pleased to find 20 mtrs holding up with good signals until a little after 0200 UTC. 80 mtrs was pretty noisy with only one QSO with K9MMS.

WA1AR Operated by: Alan
Only got in and hour or so Saturday night and an hour+ Sunday morning before all the Mothers Day activity started. When I got home from dinner it was all over. Went QRP all the way with 5W with my new FT450 and an old 1924 bug. All but 3 QSO on 40 meters. Was following K9SKC from the SKED page but I was never strong enough to get his attention.

Alan

N2JNZ Operated by: George
Great condx on Saturday nite !! Worked Gordon , N6WK 2XQRP on 20m and worked Paul , NG7Z on 40m QRP !! Sunday was terrible !! Worked only 2 at the end. Tough QRP weekend !!! Thanks to all who had to work on getting copy on all the QRP stations !!!!!

KI0TB Operated by: Lou
Laid low by the flu all weekend but I got on for an hour. Wish I was able to work it more than just an hour. The bands were somewhat lively even when ops were posting that they were dead. But they weren't good enough but to barely hear some QRP stations.

Lou, KI0TB

K2RFP Operated by: Dick
I switched between my Icom-756Pro2 and my KX-1 for the sprint
but I went QRP at 3 watts all the way.
There were times when the band seemed dead and times when many signals suddenly appeared.
Heard lots of static crashes on 40 m.
Fun as always with SKCC sprints.

Using one of my favorite homebrew mini keys on my leg.

NG7Z Operated by: Paul
That was the most fun I've had with my clothes on! (plagiarized from N6TR's comment on the NCJ sprint) Really though, after spending countless hours during the CQM contest with practically nothing to show for it, the SK sprint was a breath of fresh air. Especially rewarding was hearing and working serious contest ops doing the SK thing. W5ZR, K4BAI, KN7T, KL8DX, N9FC. The activity seemed to be up and then down. Sometimes during a run, there would be a little pile up and then a long period of nothing. Kept things interesting. You never knew when there would be a call. As the Arnold is so fond of saying, "I'll be back"!

I only operated for 2 hours on Saturday night. I didn't operate at all on mothers day because I had to spend time with my mom and my dad didn't want me on the radio that day. I hope to do better next time.

LW3EX Operated by: Walt
Congrats to all you boys running QRP, great challenge in spite of the horrible prop (til have QRN & band noise pinned in the ears:)
Worked two QRP´rs, N6WK Gordon and K9SKC Randy, FB WTG.
Tnx all, special to KG4W Ed with your Q I completed my T application.
CU all on the next, 73 & DX's - ..-

AF2Z Operated by: Drew
Lot of good sigs on 20m, but not for me apparently. Did better on 80m but it was real noisy there... We need to replenish our supply of Centurions: only got 2 this time, vs 13 Trib's... K9SKC found me, tks Randy... Used the Vizbug a bit, but mostly the Junker; didn't work long enough to get tired on the straight key... My rig: Elecraft K2 @ 15 watts, 100' wire. Tnx & 73!

Elecraft K2, Vizbug & Junker

W3RT Operated by: Red
Only able to operate late Sunday afternoon. The bands were super busy from what I heard. Worked lots of new "T's"; I've been off for a while, and am glad to hear the newer numbers in the Group.

Only 2 QSO's. Remember it was Mothers Day and my childrens mother is more important than playing radio. After 50 years I stll enjoy her company!
