0000Z 1 January 2008

Through

2359Z 31 January 2008

Summary

1)     Reserve the Special Event call with your area coordinator. See below for list of coordinators.

2)     Get on the air and have fun.

3)     Submit your log.

Goals

1)     Have Fun!

2)     As many members as possible should have a chance to operate with the Special Event callsign.

3)     The Special Event callsign should be on the air as much as possible during the month of January. We need your help

Scheduling

The Special Event callsign can only be on the air from one station in a call district at a time. Volunteer coordinators will maintain a schedule to coordinate our operation. Contact them about their specific procedures for call assignments.

On-Air Procedure

While you are operating with the SKCC Special Event callsign you must remain within the privileges granted by your license. You must identify your primary station callsign at least once per hour.

You must use a straight key, bug or other key acceptable to SKCC. No electronic keyers are permitted.

Remember, this is not a contest. This is an event celebrating our second anniversary. Therefore, entering into a QSO or taking time to explain the club is fine. Just keep in mind that others may be waiting to call you and will lose interest quickly if you enter into a ragchew.

You are expected to operate within your skill level. This means that if 5 WPM and a mistake every other word is the best you can do – fine! Just have fun. There is no pressure at all.

The suggested CQ format is:

CQ DE K2A/4 K2A/4 K

This is a suggestion. Change your procedure based on current conditions. If you have a pileup, often a simple TU to the last caller will net another call.

For the exchange, you should give RST, Name, State and SKCC number 00 (zero zero). Here is a suggested exchange:

W1AW de K2A/4 TU 569 FRANK FL SKCC 00T K
*If you are a Centurion or Tribune, add C or T to the 00 as appropriate.*

Please send the words “Straight Key Century Club” at 15 minute intervals. You might script out some words beforehand. As a suggestion:

INFO ABT STRAIGHT KEY CENTURY CLUB FOUND ON THE WEB. QSL SASE TO KA3CTQ [AR] DE {your call, your SKCC number}

This will cover the FCC requirement of identifying your primary station call and get the word out about SKCC.

You may exchange your personal call and SKCC number during the QSO. This isn’t required but you may wish to do this to claim points towards awards you are chasing. This would technically count as a second QSO and should be entered in your personal log.

You may use the Special Event callsign on any band during the time you have reserved. Try to stay on the air for the full time you’ve reserved the Special Event callsign.

Post Operating Procedure

Send your Special Event logs as soon as possible to your area coordinator. We will be sending out QSL cards for confirmed contacts so accuracy is a must. Cerificates for working all 10 call areas and endorsements for AK and HI will also be made available for download. We cannot send a QSL card if the call is not confirmed in the log.

The preferred log format is ADIF or Cabrillo which can be exported from most logging programs. Keep a copy of your log!
A free K2A logging program written by Dick K2RFP, can be downloaded from http://www.skccgroup.com/k2a/6-k2rfp-mini-logger.zip

Submit your logs shortly after your on-air time ends but no later than February 5, 2008.

If you provide the SKCC QSL Bureau with SASE's, Dan will send you all the QSL cards received while you ran the Special Event callsign.

QSLs and Certificates

1)     Confirmation of any K2A station gets a QSL if Dan gets an SASE

2)     Confirmation of all Special Event districts gets a certificate that you can print yourself

3)     Certificate endorsements for Alasks and Hawaii member contacts
